American House

It's not perfect but the overall experience has been good. They try hard but struggle with same thing as all of them...adequate staffing. Yes, I would recommend this community to other families based on the experience so far.

AH has a lot of turnover with their staff. We found it difficult to get him showered while he was there. He had to request assistance over and over. The food wasn't very good either. They were there when we needed help and I appreciate it.

They have a great concierge desk, and [names removed] are fabulous. Most of the staff comes across caring. I would recommend it to others

The staff at American House was very helpful when it came time to move. They helped me and had answers for the questions and concerns I had. The care staff that they provide are great. They have worked with me to cut my costs. I am very satisfied overall!

The call light and a/c didn't work for the first few weeks. That was disappointing. I feel like sold services we didn't need, even after I said no. Now we are stuck paying higher rates

We love the size of the facility. It's fairly small which makes it more intimate and the staff are super friendly. The only negative was when we initially met with the director to sign the paperwork, she and the marketing person weren't exactly on the same page...they told me different things and I had to get them both in the room together to make sure we received what we were initially told (regarding price, services, etc). It was nothing major and we worked it all out. The other thing was that we were asked by different staff members to sign various paperwork over the first few weeks. It seems to me all the paperwork should've been available when we signed the lease.

The staff is super nice. They are all good with the patients. We just have issues with appointments from time to time.

American House is well kept but not fancy. The staff is efficient, cooperative, and friendly. Meals are flavorful and well presented. Substantial building walls make the individual residences are quiet

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Facility was clean and homey. plenty of social activities for residents. I would have given the place a 5 but we did have some hiccups with dispensing of meds by med staff. Things were eventually resolved but there was still room for improvement.

I think the American House Oak Park is a beautiful facility. Everybody there tries very hard and my experience is only with memory care for the 2 months we were there. Staffing is an issue which I feel will be a problem no matter where you go. Especially on the weekends. My biggest problem was with drug distribution. It took them almost two months to get things right and when I wasn't there, I was having them call me with a photo of the pills before distributed. The PT people were very good and reliable as well as everyone handling daily activities. It was clean and a very good choice for Memory Care. Again, my husbands encephalitis improved and he was able to go home so I may not be able to give the best opinion on long term care. Those I met that were long term seemed pleased but they also stayed very involved. Some sad things were said to me when they found out he was leaving by [name removed]. It was her feeling, I needed to move in there too to independent living! It was hurtful. Everyone else knew [name removed] didn't belong in memory care and were very happy he was going home. When picking an institution, I would say ease of getting there is #1.

Start up cash glitch, canceled meeting, 3 hours getting meds for [name removed] on MLK Monday during snowstorm. Good final prorated of payment. Nothing so bad, but a couple disappointments. All ok at American House.

The facility has a lovely entrance and appealing dining area. I think the front staff could be friendlier; better communication among the staff and supervisor.

The staff at American house Freedom place is understanding and attentive. The activities are engaging and the facilities are clean and modern. I believe my father-in-law is getting quality care for an affordable price.

They encourage participation. On family night the staff encourages residents to dance along with them. Staff will even dance with wheelchair bound residents. They know residents by name. They know their likes and dislikes. My mom does jigsaw puzzles, the staff will often stop and ask how it's going. They will sometimes sit and do some pieces with her. When the staff passes a resident they always acknowledge them in some way.

The staff and corporate staff are very cooperative with handling problems. A one bedroom apartment is about 500 square feet.
