12 Oaks Senior Living

We toured here and it was nice, but this was going to be cost prohibitive for us. There wasn't a lot included in the price, there were a lot of add on's or extra fees for all the little extra things we were going to need. We found another place that was more inclusive.

I liked that it is not a chain and just a local entity. It us very conveniently located. They don't seem to offer respite care which I may need soon when my daughter has her baby in July in California. I have an additional new dilemma which is that my husband may gave another diagnosis, NPH either in addition to Alzheimer's or instead of. Increasing problems with all motor and gait and self care. Will know more next Monday after tests may 19th.

They didn’t address the memory care issues. This community has residents who are earlier in the progression of the disease and it was my second choice. If they could have helped with memory care issues, this would have been a better choice for us. I’d rate them highly across the board.

Horrible location on busy street. Balconies but view is of parking lot. Good price for one bedroom, ind. living, asst. living, memory care on site. Lovely grounds, courtyard, pond.

They are very clean and the staff are all very friendly! They could definitely improve on their activities by offering a better variety, and just more activities in general. It's very expensive, but they all are. One thing that was hard was the change in staff when we were going through the admissions process, since no one let us know that was happening. However, their director was very courteous and professional, and really tried to help us through the whole process.

NewForest has an excellent on-site director and Pacifica, the corp. owner, is constantly upgrading and repairing the facility. There is good attention to safety and awareness of resident's missing meals. Services are limited as this is an independent living facility. Meals are generally very good and there are options of delivery or pick up. The services our parents have needed most that aren't available are for someone to do laundry and for transportation to doctor/hospital after regular hours and on weekends. It is truly independent living but has many residents with outside care giver's. the service We need most is an on site services coordinator, social worker, counselor or someone familiar with services to the elderly living on just Social Security and heavily subsidized by children! We have difficulty getting help with information about services and additional help with memory care needs. NewForest is excellent as long as the family is able to stay involved on a regular basis.

This was a really nice facility. Just what we're looking for. The residents were friendly and engaged. The place was clean and well organized. The staff interacted well wtih the residents.

It's older, I think that the people like it who live there, but it is not as spiffy or as clean. Not as well tended. It was very affordable at $900, and that included food. What she didn't like the most though was that that price was for a room with a roommate, and she lived with the reality that they could put someone in her room tomorrow, although she never actually had a roommate. Unless they are full, though, I don't think that they ever put people together. All the other people were alone even though they were in what constituted a double room. It was very nice, the guy who runs it was just a nice man. The food was good, we ate several times with my mother. Very nice helpful people who worked in the dining room! It is just not as neat.

There's a couple things that I have had questions about that I haven't gotten a chance to speak with them about. When they were talking to my dad about moving in I know they said they did housework for him and I'm pretty sure that included dishes but no one had been doing that part. I have to check on that. Everything else is good. He loves the food, they seem to be real nice to him, and the living quarters are very nice. There are beautiful trees and everything. Other than the dishes thing everything is good. And that may not be their fault. Sometimes he gets confused so that's why I have to talk to them about it. I like it so far. It was the only one that was in his price range in the area. Everything else was either too high or didn't have the amenities we wanted like the meals and handicapped restrooms and all that.

We didn't like it at all. I went there with my step son and there was just kind of a feel about it when we walked in. It's a little bit darker, a little bit older and where they had the memory care patients it was darker back there. They did have a lot of activities and they were real nice, the set up was nice. It jsut didn't feel right for her at this point because she loves the outdoors and we were looking for something that was brighter so she could see outside. We are going to have to consider the Emeritus facility though because she is going to be running out of money and I know they work with the Star plus program.

The welcome/adminstration team at Arbrook is top notch. They are extremely personable and want to do everything in their power to give you the best options for your loved one. The initial tour was not just a look at the facility, but a real chance to visit with other residence and get a true feeling of what it is like to be part of their family. The team did an excellent job of making my mother-in-law feel loved and at home from day one. I can't express enough how hard all of the Arbrook staff members work to make it a great place to live. As i heard on the first phone interview, the only thing they ever want to be accussed of is "Loving their residence too much". I honestly belief they feel this and work very hard to ensure the residence do feel like family and very much loved.

I knew the price wouldn't be comparable to what we needed. I had a friend who was there but it was jsut too far from my other brother. It's a very nice place though, the upkeep was very nice, the dining was very nice also.

My mother is there and I think it's pretty good. It's clean and the people are friendly. The move was difficult for her but it's been a month now and I think she's starting to settle in.

That's nice but it's just a lot more expensive. But they also have higher levels of care. All those places are so expensive. It was nice and clean. We all need to start saving our pennies for when we need one of these places.

They don't allow pets and my mom has a cat but the units are really nice. The other thing was if you took between 1 and 5 medications it was a certain price but if you took more than 5 they started increasing the price even though they're just pills and the number of pills. I guess they don't want people who are taking a lot of medications.

Even though my mtoher doens't participate in a lot of activities they do have a lot and I'm trying to get her to particiapte. It's an independent living so they expect people to do things on her own and participate but there are other poeple who live there who try to get her involved. She doesn't get out of her room as much as she should but when I'm with her she does get out and seems to talk to people. She's good, she likes it, but for her it was such a big change from moving from her house, coming to Texas and moving in here but it's good so far. We chose it for the location, it was within her price range and also because of the cleanliness. They've been good with maintenence and the other things we've had to call them about with things we were trying to do in her apartment.

Emeritus was good. The only deciding factor was that they didn't have a big kitchen facility so for someone who was not ready to move to a real assisted living place that was too much of a change. They had counter space were you could put a coffee pot or some thing and a sink but no baking facility. Of course they had a dining room. It was just going to be too radical a change for my mom.

It was lovely - very nice! It was two story, that was one of the drawbacks and the staff was a little bit more attentive at the other Colonial Oaks we looked at. It was also too far away from where my sister-in-law lived.

Lovely place Dee was very helpful. The location is just to far. If we can't find a place closer. I will differently consider here

Very nice but would have liked the patients to have access to a restricted area outside. Didn't observe ongoing activities for Alzheimer area. Did get the feel the staff cares about their patients. Wish there had been an 'in between' setup for severe Alzheimer's and assisted living. Staff was very nice and informative.
