my review The Retreat at Easley

The community gave us a very good story on what we could expect if we moved in. unfortunately, we did not get it when they sold us. Communication is not a priority and we can not get returned calls or basic info about our loved one. The staffing level is not good and they are not receptive to feedback.

Look before leaping

Funny - only the 5 star reviews seem to be published. Let’s see how long this one stays up. After not quite 3 months of considerable monitoring of a patient, it has become apparent that much, but not all, of the actual staff watching over the patients is woefully inadequate or undertrained or just plain apathetic. Their intent seems to be to turn people into vegetables, so there is little actual effort expended, giving them time to group chat and/or spend hours on their cellphones! Their program —anytime someone gives them any grief, or might actually require “care” turns out to be something they DON’T provide, instead sending the patient out to a psychiatric facility, at the patients expense, to turn them into the vegetables.

I was not very impressed with this community it was dated and dark inside and I just did not get a good feeling about it. We were here for breakfast and the fact that it is served buffet style and my mother uses a walker it would not be the best for her. This definitely would not be the place for my mom.

Used to be great - not so much anymore

I loved this place when I first placed my dad. It was 'down home' and homey. Two years later, half the the staff has left and apparently there's a new director who I have yet to meet. The staff who are there are over-worked and tired. There are few familiar faces and I'm not sure the care is very good. Recently my dad, who's in the memory care/Reflections unit became verbally ugly. I received a call. A psych dr evaluated him WITHOUT my permission and prescribed him meds WITHOUT my permission. Today when I visited, he had sores on his arms and no one knew why. There were no shirts in his closet and again, no one knew why. I got there early today to go to church with him (that's held inside Greenfield) - no one came down to get the Reflections residents. Maybe because there were only 3 people working in the Reflections Unit???? I escorted 4 Reflections residents upstairs. What would've happened had I not been there? Additionally, there used to be decorations upstairs in the Reflections unit - no more. Its bare walls. Ugly bare walls. Terribly disappointed and researching other places for my dad. This place has gone from hero to zero.

Compared to other locations we looked at we were not impressed with this community at all during our tour. It was dingy, didn't seem very clean, and there was a noticeable smell. It had a very clinical feel, which wasn't the atmosphere we were looking for for Mom. I believe it may have been attached to a skilled nursing facility, which may explain some of the issues we had.

Very disappointed and looking for another home for my Mom. Pricing is unfair and food choices have appearance of frozen TV dinners. Fish dinner with no lemon, tartar sauce or ketchup is unacceptable. I also received abill from one of their assocaited medical vendors wanting payment for flue shots. I could have gotten those for free but with mother was talked into accepting the offer. It cost her $60.00. thats bull

Mom lived here for a month

Arbor terrace has lots of activities on its calendar. My mom mostly watched tv. She did some activities but she was not engaged. Most days she had breakfast from around 9 until 11. They would wake her up around 6 am, get her dressed and then put her back to bed. She had a very small shared room. Her walker did not fit in the bathroom. It was pretty cramped for someone who needs help using the bathroom. The staff were nice and friendly, but I felt that it was quite understaffed. I found it to be depressing. The management was a little agressive with me when I complained. The food service guy was helpful. The quality of food was low. No bananas in the entire building when I asked for one. There was no milk on the entire memory unit side. The dining room where she ate was cramped and dingy.

Our experience

Some staff were friendly & competent while others lacked knowledge & training with the elderly. On mom had been transferred to a behavioral center while at Viva for medication regimen evaluation. Once stable was discharged. On Thanksgiving Day we were notified that Viva would not take her back due to possible elopement risk. She was discharged with no place to go. Family had a tremendous hardship

My Perspective on One Senior Living Residence

Staff is not trained to work with visually impaired residents - disrespectful to the residents, loud and spent time on phone talking to boyfriends and children, rude to family members and guests. Food was very good from September to January, but after the new owners took over, the food was noticeably skimpy and poorly prepared. The nurse was seldom available and the Case Manager was disinterested when asked for help. Patient was transported to hospital and left in ER with no assistance.

Started with such promise

Everything was fine until my dad passed. Since then we have been completely ghosted. Not a word of condolence. Nothing. Hard to say much since he was only there for 1 day. I will say that the nurse was very difficult to work with by email, though better by phone or in person. Also dad's button was not working until I called in to find out what was happening.

Very disappointed in Viva

Mom was at Viva for a little over a month before we were told we had 7 days to find her someplace else because she was a liability. [name removed] visited mom at the nursing home and knew she couldn't get out of bed or walk by herself. He was aware of the care she needed but said he had good staff and they could take care of her; that they were very persuasive. Well they were not. Mom refused to get out of bed and consequently developed a very bad bedsore. She is in the hospital with a wound vac and very strong antibiotics. Very disappointed in Viva.

Not a good fit for advanced needs

This is an assisted living facility. We misunderstood and thought when they said they could continue the care as the disease progressed that they could assist in moving the patient from their bed. PT was not started after several weeks following the approval being signed. The podiatrist that treated her was not participating with Medicare Advantage so the bill was completely out of pocket.
