Disappointing Experience

My Mom was recently admitted for skilled nursing care & rehab (physical, occupational, and speech therapies). The wound care doctor basically never saw her, however, the nurses on duty took great care to treat the wound. Severe lack of communication between physicians that make rounds and the nursing staff and rehab team. Literally lost 3 weeks of meaningful rehab due to communication break down. The food was marginal and often arrived cold (there were times she was not served food at all). Wait times after pressing call button unacceptable (possible labor shortage). Contract CNA’s were not vested and appeared annoyed when asked for assistance. Attention to sanitation, when handling our loved one, was addressed at our request. This is a beautiful facility with so much potential. Better communication could have made a world of difference. Again, nursing staff was great and went out of their way to support our Mom. She loved the activities.

The second we walked in we knew this was not going to be the place we put our loved one. They were late for the tour and said we were not on their books. Someone who doesnt normally give tours was the one showing us around. It just seemed cold and we did not get a good feeling. The facility was pretty.

Don't Bother

I would not recommend this community right now. I went into this understanding that we're in a pandemic, and I would not be able to visit as I wanted to. But they've been very inconsistent in their policies. I think they also have some issues that are affecting their ability to keep staff there. The food has declined significantly over the time we've been there. It looks and tastes terrible currently. Lately they haven't had enough help, trash isn't getting emptied, etc. Originally there were some really great people there, but there's been a lot of turnover. There's no communication with families. When I contact them, they eventually get back to me. But it's taken persistence. The sales person we spoke to originally was wonderful, and he would go outside of his role to help get a response for me. But he's no longer there. The manager is very nice, but the communication is just not great. I don't feel like I have a sense of what's going on, and when rules change regarding visitation they don't let you know.

We are not happy

Our loved one went in there with them saying they could take care of him and that it was a secured facility, but that was not the case. We was able to get through the doors. Less then a week of him being there he was sick, we had to come get him, take a shower and take him to the hospital because they were not able to. We had to send him to a different facility, and they were not able to refund us the money we paid for that month, even though he was only there for a week.

Needs improvement

The food at this community absolutely needs improvements, one meal we were given buttered noodles and rice, which was two carbs and that was it. However, there are a couple decent meals. The house keeping who takes care of my apartment cleans everything from my bathroom to the kitchen. I haven not had any trouble with the staff members, Sometimes the activities director bring drinks and little snacks on a cart around our rooms. For Halloween we get treats, and if it is your birthday you can also get little goody bags.

Never got to a tour

Nice looking place from the lobby. I came in to tour since I am looking for my parents. I sat in the lobby for over 15 minutes and there was nobody at the reception desk. Then an employee came in from the front door and asked me if I needed any help. I said I was looking for a place for my parents. She said she would send somebody right out and went into the closed staff room. A couple minutes later an alarm for one of the resident's rooms went off and kept beeping. 15 to 20 minutes later at about 10:00 someone comes in the front door and goes into the manager's office. I pointed out to her that there was somebody in need and I was waiting to leave after I knew staff was notified. I then told her I would look for somewhere else for my parents. Unfortunately this site does not have N/A rating, so I scored the not applicable items for my visit in the middle.

Left on a bad note...

Before we moved my mother into this community, they came and evaluated her. We were worried they didn't take care of her needs but they said they could. Once she was there, when she needed certain things taken care of, they would tell me "this is not a nursing home" even tho they had told me in the beginning, they could accommodate all of her needs. They would come in to give her medications, but wouldn't tell her what her meds they were giving her . She had horrible breathing problems and sometimes they would take a very long time to get to her when she needed assistance. My mother was hospitalized, and when she was released, they wouldn't let her come back to the community without 24hr care. Some of the aids were nice, they seemed very short staffed. We left on a bad note.

BEWARE OF MANAGMENT

Let me just start by saying that your family member will be getting 5 STAR care. The care staff in the Memory Care Unit is a superb group of people. As far as the management goes, do not expect too much from them. The Director of LG is very UNPROFESSIONAL (please stay far away from this place, DO NOT waste your money on arrogance!) She is often very unpleasant and will tell you anything you want to hear in the exact moment just to get you out of her way. Ive never seen her with a smile! Never seen her interact with any of the residents (and I am there daily)

It was getting to expensive and it took them months to take care of my loved one's concerns. It wasn’t secure and it was close to a six lane highway. They were nice people. I really loved a couple of their nurses. I don’t think their food was good there.

Not impressed

My husband was in the rehab part of Crystal Creek for one week and he did not get the attention he needed for his condition. One of the things that bothered me was they don't provide filtered water. They are serving the patients tap water and I find this to be very unsanitary. I wouldn't recommend this facility if your loved one needs to be attended to more often that every few hours.

Beware of Management

Beware if the facility is still under control of the Director [name removed] and Assistant Director [name removed]. Ever since new management took over in April the entire facility has gone downhill. Staff that was friendly are now scared, grievance forms that contain complaints about medication management disappear even though the wonderful front desk staff say they saw it in the Assistant Directors folder. This place is currently a mess!

The quality of care that my 90-something mother received at Thrive during the 6 months that she lived in the Memory Care wing there was, frankly, a little shocking to me. The staff seemed mostly young, mostly not very experienced, but okay for the most part (professional though not particularly compassionate); they tried to do their jobs, but there never seemed to be enough of them on the floor at any given time, so they always seemed rushed and too often seemed annoyed that they had to deal with frail elderly people. The administrators were hands-off, unresponsive, and bizarrely out to lunch -- *hugely* different than the admin I encountered at both the assisted care community where my mother lived before coming to Thrive and the memory care community where she went after Thrive (both of which, luckily, were lovely, extremely professional, and very easy to work with). Honestly I've never seen anything quite like it. After 6 months of watching my mom's health and peace of mind deteriorate, my husband and I moved her to another (really wonderful) memory facility in Jefferson where -- thank goodness! -- both staff and administration were superb, and (not surprisingly) my mother did much better. I just wish she hadn't had to spend half a year in a place where a whole lot of thought and attention (and money) seemed to have been spent on a pretty, new building and so very, very little seemed to have been spent on enhancing the quality of the lives of the elderly people who lived in it.

Not a good place

The office personnel has no idea what goes on with the caregivers. I admit they are underpaid, but they do as little as possible. My Dad is there and has mid state Alzheimers. It is assisted living, but you can pay for additional care. They are always understaffed and Dad never received the care promised. We paid 10,000 just to move in, and it is almost six thousand month. They are not equipped for as many residents they have about 80percent on the assisted living side have cognitive issues. Upper management is no help and just passes blame back on residents for being uncooperative. Too expensive and staff poorly trained

Bed Bugs!!!

This facility has so many turn over! As soon as my family get comfortable with someone that person either get fired or quit due to not enough staff members to take care of our love ones... Not only that I've found "bed bugs" in the rooms and which has been addressed to the overhead staff. I wouldn't recommend this place for a dog to call home! My family has since taken our love one out of the facility!

Thumbs down

My father was a resident at this facility and only lasted about 6 months. He needed more care than we were told he was going to need in the beginning. Within 3 months, his care rate was raised without any notification to us. He fell several times while at this facility and we never received a phone call to inform us. Tracy, who deals with the admission area is uncaring and rude. Communication is terrible. They withdrew money out of my father's account, without permission for alleged damages that he did to his apartment without any proof of same. His apartment always smelled of urine. Lack of care toward my parent. If you parent is independent and is just in need of someone to clear and prepare meals, this place is for you, but if they need anymore care than that, this place is not this place.
