Anyone want to work?

This place did not have enough staff to be able to take care of the residents. They said that if my loved one needed extra help that I would have to pay for someone to come in and sit with him at night because they are under staffed. The CNA's are wonderful and do there best, but the administrative office is not helpful at all. I do like that they have a gazebo for the residents.

Really, just not great

My mother was at Sanctuary for stroke rehab. There were conflicting stories from the staff. Some said her condition was too poor to be there and they were not equipped to care for her. Administration said that was nonsense. Regardless, the nursing assistants resented her because of it. Staff was comfortable to tell anyone how much they disliked their jobs and the management. They were always understaffed. Management was very defensive when there was an issue they could never see that we wanted to work with them so took a defensive position. We had at least 2 family members a day visit to care for mom's basic needs. The first 6 weeks she was there she had two showers. She was intimidated by several staff members and never felt very safe there. After her strokes, we have had her in [removed]. Staff at Sanctuary was far and away the worst. Building was far and away the best. Management spent too much time hiding their mistakes instead of fixing them. Now that mom is in a facility where the standard of care is high, I can really see how poorly run Sanctuary was. Large staff turnover and many times temp RN's. One of the temp RN's actually had to ask me what some of the meds were because she had no idea. The food was excellent and presented nicely. Physical therapy was better than you could get anywhere else. My advice is this. If you are really there for rehab and can physically care for much of your own needs, it's a good place. If you need a lot of assistance, you are not going to get it. Day staff gets stuck doing things night staff didn't do. I am concerned about the insurance billing. As I see explanations of benefits, it appears that their prices are far more than they actually did. [removed]

Short-Term Rehab Needs Audit

We chose MC because of its great ratings for short-term rehab. In a nutshell, it needs a complete audit of its procedures. 1. Residents are left unattended even in dining area. 2. Dispensing of medication (eps. pain meds) is inconsistent. 3. Floor head nurse is extremely unprofessional. 4. Promised care (I.e. showers, attentive toileting response, etc.) isn’t actualized. While the upper management and front desk staff are WONDERFUL, unfortunately, that doesn’t translate to the actual short-term rehab floor. We chose not to return to MC after a week + stay at Christ after we found our loved one convulsing and unattended in the tv room. He was to be in a ‘public place’ after they found him a week prior on the ground in his room. Btw, I went almost daily. On the off day or two I couldn’t go, someone else did.

Unfortunate Experience

I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The community is understaffed with caregivers. It would be nice to have more proactive communication with the family about care concerns with our loved ones There were three meals a day served to the residents and there were choices to choose from. It would be nice to have more activities available for the residents. When we would visit we saw more tv watching available to the residents than games or music.

Depressing

I had the pleasure of visiting residents at this facility. Unfortunately I found the apartment to be dusty when it was just cleaned within the past 4 days. Also noted in the stairwells there are no cameras so if some one fall it could be a long wait till they are found!!! That's scary!! And not having food available on Sunday evening is worrisome!!! All in all the place looks like public housing, the staff needs to smile more and step up to the plate!

Not A Good Experience

The dining room is not dirty, but the food is bad, it is half-cooked. When I first came here I had a room, and it was a room that I liked, but I had to go back home to go get a check because they do not take cash, and when I came back the next day they had given my room to someone else.

I agree with sorry I was there. I say the same thing no supervisors, not enough care. And you have to wait forever for things. It is a beautiful building but I am more interested in what happens once youre in the beautiful building. They weren't terrible, but they weren't great like they are made out to sound. I would go somewhere else if I had to do it again. They should have someone you can talk to if you have problems.

They only care about money

My uncle has been there for the past three years. At first, it was fine because he was in an independent living situation, but as time went on, he developed dementia. I recently discovered that he has been living without any toilet paper for about 3 weeks because the McAuley "does not supply toilet paper or any other daily living necessities" to their residents. His medical condition is rapidly declining, but they are holding him to a "4 month notice to vacate agreement" that he signed when he entered The McAuley. Shameful!!!

Poor quality of care

We chose to hire the additional care that was offered. We hoped to prevent our mother from falling since she had a call light. The staff would cancel her call light. She was blind and still had to go to the bathroom on her own. She ended up breaking her hip. We were not notified until two days later because they kept leaving voicemails on her cell phone that was at her bedside. She also got foot fungus because her toilet kept overflowing and the bathroom floor was always wet. As she was blind she had difficulty eating; we frequently found food remnants on the floor and table that had not been cleaned. Staff seemed overworked but were always courteous and willing to listen. The policy forbidding cameras in the room directly led to this score. During a settling in period we were permitted to have cameras so we could remotely help my mom, who was blind, orient to her new surroundings. Techs complained about the presence of cameras; two days after we complied with the policy and removed the cameras she broke her hip trying to get to the bathroom on her own. Her call light requesting assistance had been cancelled. Often forgot to deliver her meals to her. Forgot she was blind and did not tell her when meals had been delivered. Because of our negative experiences there is no cost which would have been acceptable. Certainly not what we paid. We opted to remove her from the situation and we provided care for her in her own home.

Horrible

My grandmother was living there and contracted bed bugs. They say they clean and sprayed the apartment, but they are still there. We have filed many adult human services reports on them as no one should live how “[name removed]” (the manger) makes them live and tells them lies to make herself and the company look better. Definitely do not recommend. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE.

Very poor experience

The rehab facility seems to be pretty well maintained, however the communication by myself (PoA for a long time friend) and the staff was non-existent. Calls were placed to his nurse and to the PT/OT department. A call was never answered (5 calls over a two week period) nor did I get a response to any voice mail message I left with both areas. During a visit, even though I identified myself as his PoA, I could get very little information about his rehab process. Simple questions such as "is he going to PT daily" were brushed off as not something the nurse knew. I was finally notified by his Assisted Living facility that he would be discharged within 48 hours I we needed to determine where was going. We will never use Holy Cross Rehab again.

The Executive Director was caring, and tried to be of help. The director of nursing, was rude, and not responsive to families. The care was terrible. There was no activiites and the place smelled. They did not do things, that we asked them to do. It was a terrible environement on every sinlge level. They did not do anything to help my loved one adjust. It was a total nightmare.

tour of Villa Marie

we toured Villa Marie and we didn't care for it. they don't have an overnight staff, as they all leave at 5-6pm. the dining rooms and common areas can only be accessed via skywalk or breezeway - meaning all the highways are outside in a glass enclosure. the enclosure(s) don't come with heated flooring either. we chose another community because we didn't like the setup of the community, it just didn't have what we were looking for.

Really gone down hill - buyer beware

Glacier Hills in Ann Arbor Michigan has declined rapidly in quality, safety, and dedicated staff services since Trinity Health took over. You can see how online reviews have really gone downhill since 2016! Their priorities were cost cutting....paying CNA's less than Burger King employees, using low cost high school kids as dining staff, and stopped staffing invaluable social workers. Trinity dismisses residents/family. Trinity has turned over Glacier Hills' top management.. President 3 times, Assisted/CRC administrator 3 times and Sales staff 100%. Top Trinity SLC accountable of GH (VP Senior Housing Operations and VP Healthcare Operations only show up once a month!!!) Trinity is trying to hide low quality service standards and poor resident relations with fresh paint, interior updates and BIG promises quality/safety will be restored. Demand SEVERAL months proof showing quality/safety standards and resident satisfaction has been restored before signing on the dotted line!

Mom ended up in a coma

My Mother was at Marycrest for rehabilitation after a stroke and some other medical complications. She was stable and was there to get her physical strength improved. It was in her records and the staff was aware she needed to wear a bipap nightly due to COPD. Her care there was interrupted by a brief stay at a hospital, but then she was sent right back to Marycrest to continue her physical therapy. I was present the day she was readmitted and was assured by staff that the bipap would be put on my mother that night. Less than 24 hours after being readmitted, we got a call that my mom was found unresponsive and was being rushed to the hospital. We asked Marycrest if my mother had her bipap put on before bed. We were told she was not hooked up to the machine because they could not find the mask to the machine, so they just did not put the machine on her. As a result, my mom had very high levels of CO2 and was in a coma. She ended up on a ventilator for 5 days and died a little over a week later. Please be very cautious if choosing this facility.

Do NOT place a loved family member here if you care about them. My uncle was placed here from the hospital (73) and we called every day for 4 days looking to get information about him and NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK. No one returned calls even after we were assured by the front desk that we would get a call. Never happened... until we got a call that he had passed. Absolutely inhuman experience. I hope no one else has to experience the level of frustration, anxiety and sadness that this facility created for my family. And I can only imagine how terrible my poor uncle's final days were at the facility.
