I suppose I would give it a five due to what the staff has to deal with daily. Being a caregiver is a very difficult job, especially if your loved one has dementia or Alzheimer's. I know this because I alone...

Food always looked wonderful. The facility was clean. The apartments were plenty big. The response to the call button was a little slow at times. The directors were helpful, and the staff was pleasant and...

I like the staff. I think admin has been a big help with the transition of my dad. The admin on the memory care side [name removed] has been great to work with and I have a direct line to her if I need it....

A Place for Mom has scored Surpass Senior Living with 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 43 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Surpass Senior Living has 233 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 3.9 out of 5.
I found this to be more of a nursing home than a memory care center. Most of the promised therapies (music, art, physical, etc.) were never provided. My loved one was surrounded by extremely disabled, feeble, and very elderly residents whose needs appeared more medical than memory-related. The freedom to access the kitchen, courtyard, and activities was limited or nonexistent. The food choices and meals were not as presented. My loved one was not encouraged to develop independence or foster new interests. This was not the fault of the staff, but rather a lack of adequate staffing and management. Her “apartment” was essentially a dorm room. Other residents entered her room freely and without consequence. On one visit, I found another resident asleep in her bed, which caused significant distress. Daily life consisted mostly of crafts and occasional outings to shop or eat. The staff was sweet and always helpful, but the label of a memory care facility is inaccurate. My loved one is no longer a resident. We have chosen to pursue care and therapy at home.

The admin staff is amazing. The care team was very nice. I was disappointed that they didn't actually have staff actually consistently check on my Grandfather. I know it's not a nursing home but I feel like he got almost no care after the first week of his respite stay. I also think they should clean the rooms more than once a week.

In July when [name removed] was being placed in Parkside, they were planning on separating men/women floor. This left them with short staffing, which they now have improved and lots of hiring has taken place. I am happy about that. Meals look appetizing and are presented with appeal. The activities were little to none on the men's floor. I have often spoke of this. Most of the 14 men on this wing have little desire to do anything except watch tv, although they now have cornhole boards up there. They have hired a new activity director who is very good and hope the 3rd floor will be included in some of the new activities. I take [name removed] to the 1st floor when they have music. Have had music on third floor once.
The move in process was easy. The staff was willing to help. Staff is friendly. The one major complaint is communication with the family. My brother has gone to the hospital twice and I was never notified by any staff member.

Not a good place to go if your loved one has any confusion. Otherwise it's probably fine. We picked this community because it was the only one to accept her for a price she could afford. Management staff were very nice.

At first - very nice and clean. Over the next few months - area started to smell of urine, personal care went down significantly, overall the memory care unit declined. PS Parkside left about 25% of my dad's clothes in wet urine and dried feces. Plus they are on their 3rd Admissions Director in 4 months. I would tell others to make sure and read the contract! You need to be willing to nicely and strongly advocate for your loved one. If your loved one has a DNR - you MUST review the Parkside medical paperwork and CONFIRM that the DNR is noted and it does NOT say "resuscitation at all costs". If you move your loved one out to another facility- make SURE you give Parkside 30 days WRITTEN notice. Also, follow up with ALL medical records needed for the next place.

The Ivy of McKinney has potential to be really nice, it is very clean but we have just had some frustrating things happen time and time again. Most of the staff members are really good but the head nurse or supervisor nurse does not always seem on top of her game - when we ask a question we do not always get a direct answer. They could work on improving their internal organization and communication with families.

Our experience wasn't the greatest from the move in and after settling in. The medication management for our loved one could have been more consistently delivered at specific times instead of whatever time the community choose to deliver these medications. The community was able to work with the family to get this complaint handled for the family after a few reminders by the family though.

1. Above average in cleanliness and housekeeping. 2. Management/office above average 3. Could use some more real professional "patient" care.supervision.
Our family had an in person tour and right away we did not really care for the community, we just knew from what we saw it was not going to be the best fit.

loved the unit but wasn't shown exercise room, which is a must-have, pretty small population, and concern about mem care being in separate building

[Removed] gave me a tour and was very informative. Sommerset is in a great community, very clean, staff was friendly. There is a one bedroom currently available. This floor plan is not open and it's very dark inside. Also the residents have assigned seating at meal time. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I don't believe this is a good fit for mom.

New community needs time to get their organization under a consistent care structure. Everyone is very nice and helpful. Again new is not best in time they will get there. Right now organizing and consistency is definitely not their strong quality.

The food is wonderful, it's not institutional food like the last place. The communication hasn't been good, it doesn't seem like the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. It seems like when we make a request, and the director says it will be done, and then it isn't always that way. My mother is very happy though, and she loves the place.

The facility and faculty are very nice and professional. My mother has adjusted well and has had no complaints. She is always anxious to get back on days when I take her for outings. My only compliant is the difficulty is getting a response from the Director Linda Craum. After 3 messages left on her cell phone and one with the receptionist, I have yet to get a call back after over a week.

My inlaws have lived here since June. Much of the director/top people have changed since they moved in. Apparently we were not assessed correctly and have had to make adjustments to be able to afford to keep them at the heritage. The original staff that was there in June were friendlier and more accommodating. The newest director seems almost bored by questions and concerns. Several of the original staff that are still there, have been great. They need to build on a covered breezeway at the front doors for when it's raining.

I toured here, and while the people were nice enough, the tour felt rushed. I also felt that the foyer was dark, with many of the residents gathered, but not really doing anything. It just didn't seem as lively or as bright here as I would like, so I decided it would not be the best fit.
