My father spent over $100,000 at this facility in less than 3 years. When it was time for a medicaid room they tried to say they had none and there was a "list" . When I contacted the state ombudsman suddenly there was a room. After some time he was moved to the dementia unit only to be there less than a year. After harrassment for months ( interestingly it started when he went on medicaid) , they sent a fed ex letter stating he is being released. What were they going to do put him on the street!! ?? This place is exploiting seniors. They keep people based on how "easy"they are to care for. I moved my father for his safety and the new facility said his behaviors were normal dementia behaviors and nothing out of the ordinary. BEWARE! They sound good in the beginning as long as you are paying out of pocket.!

I never write reviews but this place deserves negative stars. Do not allow your loved ones to live here, my grandfather has lived her many years and the rent increases are every year and by an ungodly amount. The biggest issue is the management and maintenance, turn over is constant and with unreliable and unqualified people. You can't ever find a manager, most the time they aren't there even though the site states that "all communities have a live in manager" the amount of times I've tried to find or contact management without success is off the charts, same goes for my grandfather there have been many occasions he needs management and he is unable to find someone or contact someone. 100% false for the courtyard at lakewood. The maintenance guy is rude and very unhelpful and half asses his job(s). It took over a 1.5 years to get them to replace the carpet in my grandfathers apartment, there were two tears longer than 12 inches and curling up, it was a serious falling hazard, they didn't replace the carpet until i wouldn't leave them alone(phones calls, emails, in person meetings) and stated that if he falls (or even my family when visiting) they will get sued. They finally replaced the carpet and they (the lakewood facility and corporate) lack the ability to consider issues for their senior residents, the replaced carpet is so think and cheap that its almost impossible for my grandfather to wheel around in his wheelchair making his life 10x harder. Also, the food they serve is almost inedible and to save money they cut back on meat and fruit. 100% wouldn't recommend this facility to anyone there are many other places much much nicer, friendlier, and for the same cost or less, the only reason my grandfather hasn't moved is because he's 96 years old and lived there many years and moving for him would be very difficult and unpleasant. The only reason i put one star is because there are a couple of employees that have been there a long time and go out of their way to help residents and make things easier for them, but that is only about 2-3 people out of all the employees in the facility. Ive also tried contacting someone at the corporate level multiple times and haven't been able to reach anyone or get a call back.

So I wrote a rave review in January 2019. Since then my fact based opinions have changed. This place is always running on a skeleton crew and too many things are done in a half-assed way. The maintenance guy is a total jerk and treats residents very disrespectfully but he's leaving soon and many people are relieved. His continual employment there was assured by management who had no regard to the residents peace of mind or safety. Pretty sad. I think the worst thing for me is to hear mother and other residents say they feel like cattle housed only for the earning potential of the company. Too many residents have needs that aren't met. Some are hospitalized and not a single staff member knows if they returned and refuse to check on them. I could go on but I speak the truth when I say that the little bit of extra money I will be spending on a greater quality community will give me the peace of mind knowing mother is properly cared for.

Boca Pointe is an assisted living facility but during my parent's stay they did not provide him with any consistent or useful assistance. When he needed assistance they were quick to tell us to hire private duty aides. The only assistance they did provide was administering medications and that they did quite poorly. They 'accidentally' put a hold on medications, they randomly dropped medications, they needed more supervision adhering to a care plan than my parent did. They 'sell' themselves as a continuum of care community that allows for a seamless transition between their skilled nursing and rehab facilities but that is a farce. There is no communication between facilities and when my parent did move to skilled nursing after a hospitalization - skilled nursing was unaware he came from their own assisted living facility and it was like starting from scratch- no one knew anything, no information was shared.

Brighton Gardens is poorly equipped to handle dementia patients who exhibit typical dementia related behaviors such as agitation, confusion, and aggression. My father just suffered a severe head injury, which along with his mild dementia led to the aforementioned behaviors. We were constantly assured by the facility's sales rep, [name removed], that these behaviors would be addressed appropriately. However, once we signed on the doted line to the tune of over $10K per month, we learned otherwise. My mother, sister, and I, were daily visitors, so we saw first hand how the staff dealt with patients who were more challenging than their preferred patients, i.e., those who had limited communication skills or were semi-comatose. Patients who were confused, agitated, or showed signs of aggression were spoken to poorly. My mother overhead a staff member speak disparagingly about my father. It pained us to think what was said when we weren't there. Medically, my father had numerous urinary tract infections and episodes of high blood pressure that were often overlooked. Although his behavior had taken a turn for the worse, it was often attributed to his dementia and not his medical condition at the time. My father's stay at Brighton Garden culminated in him being forced to go to psychiatric facility for a psychological evaluation. One of the staff members left the obituary page of the newspaper in his room, and one of the deceased had the same name as his sister. My father was confused and saddened at what he thought was the passing of his sibling. In seeking information, he shook a woman who he regularly confused for my mother. As a result, the staff on duty made the decision to send my father to a psychiatric hospital. The staff NEVER called any of our family members to inform us of this decision. I only found out, since I had stopped by on my way to dinner. By the time I had gotten there, my father was calm and in his room. The obituary page, however, was still in his room, despite being the cause of his agitation. In order to avoid being send to the hospital, I had to agree to sleep in my father's room all night and take my father for psychiatric testing the next morning. As is normal protocol, the hospital does a complete medical before any psychiatric testing is done, so that medical issues can be ruled out as a source of the behaviors. When we got to the hospital the next morning, my father tested positive for yet another urinary tract infection and his blood pressure was a whopping 231! My father was kept overnight to monitor his medical condition. The psychiatric department did a psyche eval and released my father immediately. He clearly was not a candidate for the psychiatric wing. All I have to say about this incredibly, horrible experience is SHAME ON YOU, Brighton Gardens of West Orange. You should not be in the dementia business if you are unable to address typical dementia behaviors.

Battered, bruised, cut and suffering from a fungal rash after only 30 days in this facility, We removed our family member before he was killed there. And we can only hope he can recover from the injuries and ailments he suffered there. “Stepford” would be a better name for the facility. Everything is smiles and pleasantries when you are in the caregivers’ presence. What Lies Beneath and what hapoens when you are not is the real story. The reminiscence coordinator is woefully inadequate in the areas of accountability, follow-ip, compassion and forthrightness. The Executive Director talls a good game and is clueless about what goes on on the third floor of her facility. I feel sorry for the Director of Sales. Truly well-meaning, his career would be better served at a facility where the people in charge of “care” actually know what the word means and are able to impart it to their staff I could list at least 15 complaints about the Reminiscence Coordinator and her staff and facility. Suffice it to say they are unable, ill-equipped and worst of all NOT interested in delivering on the care for your loved one that they promise.

Our mother nearly died at their hands and THANK GOD we were able to save her life and move her to another facility. My husband and I were on a rare trip and thought she'd be cared for in our absence. Our worst nightmare happened in the second week when my cousin visited and called us in a panic. Our mother was in terrible shape (and no, nobody from Sunrise made any attempt to contact us about this) and we quickly arranged admittance to the ER where we were told she was SEVERELY dehydrated, had lost significant weight, was so over medicated that her heart rate was in the 30's...she couldn't hold a cup or stand on her own. She barely survived and spent 10 days in the hospital, then weeks at a rehab facility learning how to walk again and recover from the devastating effects of negligent care. The doctor at that hospital begged us not to return her to Sunrise, warning us she probably would not long survive if she did. Of course we did not bring her back there!!! That was in May, and I'm happy to report that she is thriving, well cared for, happy and secure in a much better care facility. She loves it there, but when we mention Sunrise she scowls and says "Sunrise let me down!". It's a real shame, as we thought they were a nice facility and some of the employees, especially the music director and front desk ladies are truly caring and do a great job. But some of the nursing staff, especially the head of the group, are sub-par and horrible - they so need to be reviewed by corporate. (which we were assured would happen when they learned of the incident in May and begged us not to report it) My mother's not the only one to end up in ER severely dehydrated from that place, btw. Makes me so concerned that the nursing neglect and subpar treatment may not have been addressed. There's a good reason we made a police report about the large theft experienced while there. Another interesting note...another resident at that place was not doing well and transferred to my mother's facility. She's doing great now and every time I see her she's smiling and looking healthier. We chose Sunrise originally because we'd had a good experience at another location previously. But our experience with the 6 months at the Leawood Sunrise turned out to be an ongoing nightmare. I'll never know all that happened but we do know she nearly died due to neglect and also that she was often frightened living there and put chairs against her door because she felt unsafe. She doesn't do that at her new place and we feel so blessed that she hasn't had the rest of her life taken from her!!

There is good and bad about this place. Most of the people are nice but the leadership is poor and there is a huge turnover. Since my parents have been there they've gone through 3 directors. What is the reason? They are often short of caregivers so the residents are left to fend for themselves and the rest of the staff appears tired and overworked. The best staff members quit and are replaced 3 months later. The building always has issues with heat or AC and leaks and other things that constantly break. Residents end up paying for the repairs out of their costs. There is one maintenance guy for the whole building inside and out and he looks exhausted. Food is edible but I've never had anything i would brag about. Seems to be more concerned about the price tag than the quality. I would take my parents out but they are comfortable at this point but I would say that there are better places to spend your money.

To start off, I try to stay away from writing reviews but when a senior care facility seems more focused on bottom line figures than their senior patients….It warrants an honest review. NOTE: I would read all recent customer reviews to make your own opinions on whether to use their services or not. But I have to echo other people’s displeasure of the care being given to loved ones at Sunrise of Cascade AND point out many issues we found out during and after using them. Just because its a new facility and they allow dogs,..only goes so far. The fact that you hear from people like us stating major concerns,…should concern you. [Name removed] is incompetent, very dishonest and is more concerned about money than your loved one. We overheard a conversation in passing where she secured a $20,000 a month care package and began cheering and bragging to other internal office staff. She and staff will tell you “everything is going well” but in reality, they weren’t. They tried to hide items going on in the facility. We pulled my father out of their facility for 5 reasons. 1. Cuts on his arms: My father ended up with what appeared to be 5 finger nail cuts in his forearm. We were never told anything or told of any concerns but bruising and cuts appeared. The fact that this happened to a point where five finger nails pierce someone’s skin is beyond excessive. 2. Sexual Predator: While taking our father out on a daily excursion,s taff told us that there were internal reports of a sexual predator on site (outside). Over the last few years he has been found masturbating to staff and those who reside there. In spite of this, no external communication about this has been given to families. 3. Communication: There was an incident where one of their staff members purposefully removed my fathers walker (although he couldn’t walk without it). Due to this my father fell face forward. What is more troublesome is we had to find this out from a 3rd service provider because it appears the facility wanted to keep this "hush hush.” This was borderline “Elder Abuse.” 4. Basic Care: Our father was admitted to the hospital. Sunrise didn't call us immediately when they noticed a change in his condition. It took almost 24 hours before we personally got a call from Sunrise when they knew there was an acute issue. He wasn't eating or peeing and Sunrise didn't even check his temperature, when in fact he had a 103 temperature and was shaking for that day. This is not the earmark of expert care while paying $5,000-7,500 a month. 5. Violation of Tenant Lease: After giving our 30 day notice of departure we were contacted a few times regarding our departure date. At that time we stated that we would be willing to vacate the room prior the 30 days if the new prospective tenants needed to move sooner…BUT only if we were going to be prorated, and refunded our money when they moved in. If we are going to be paying for a room, there was no sense in rushing to move anything. We didn't hear from the office or a sooner move in date from new prospective tenant. When we came to pick up my fathers items on the last day he was legally leased till, [name removed] and Sunrise decided to violate my fathers own tenancy rights and removed ALL items from his room. Sunrise didn't place them in a locked location, but instead placed in the facility's common areas where anyone (residents, visiting patrons, staff, etc) could take or rummage through his items. Not once were we called to discuss this nor would we have given Sunrise permission to do so. We trusted Sunrise to protect all his belongings. As a facility Sunrise had an obligation to protect those items. Because of Sunrise’s actions, items were stolen and/or lost. What happened during my father's stay was unacceptable and I hope for all current and future residents people really investigate and review other peoples experiences so that they don’t experience what we did…BUT most importantly put a loved one through it.

My Mom has paid them over $250,000 in the last 2.5 years and now that she doesn't have the money to continue to pay that they want to ship her off to another facility of their choosing without telling us where until the last minute. She's 92 and it will be devastating for her to have to move. They said they are at their quota for Medicare and will not have a bed for her. Don't send your loved ones there!!!!!!

Recently we moved our father in sunrise. The day we went to sign the papers for admission we were informed that there would be an additional charge of $18.00 a day to give him his medicine, surprise. Because we felt under pressure we went ahead anyway. Even though none of his medication that he's been taking on his own without a problem is life threatening. Then we were informed yesterday that he can't leave the grounds to walk. He usually walks a couple if miles a day. It keeps him alive. He said he was getting dizzy just walking around the building, joke. When i call today I'm just about sure that they want me to rent a monitor for how much I can't wait to find out. I explained with no reaction from the staff that we already before we moved in went over the ridiculously easy rout he would take. One simple way out and back no turns. He even told them what road he walked to. Granted my father vis not all there but he's not lost it either. Am currently exploring other facilities that would suit my wonderful father.

It was absolutely terrible. All cotton candy; sugar, sugar, sugar and little follow through. We believe we were coddled and paid lip service and when we we not actually there our mother did not get the care she deserved, she did not get the care for which we paid, nor did she get the care she was promised. We came to see and be with her daily yet after one month and 3 trips to a local hospital emergency room we refused to allow her to return to Sunrise of Annapolis.

If I could rate Aspired Living in Westmont less than a 1/2 star, I would. When this facility opened in September 2017, it was very nice and the staff was adequate. Since then the staff turnover has increased over 150%, the food has gone from chef quality to not edible. The occupancy is probably at 35% and residents are leaving in droves.
