Sunrise Senior Living

The first year my relative was there was fantastic, couldn't have been better. The second year, there was a management turnover and care staff wasn't trained the same, kept to the standards by prior management. The staff were kind and friendly, yet inconsistent with care. Slowly, things started slipping...little things, then bigger things. At the end, it felt like a slow train wreck. They also were not giving her enough food. She was a good eater. She lost a lot of weight! (He's back up 15 lbs) I couldn't trust them anymore, so we moved our relative out. Also, once they couldn't raise rates on care or medication, the room rates started going up as well. They did nothing to upgrade the room. We had to beg about the inconsistent heating/cooling system for 4 months before it was replaced. Keep a watchful eye and report everything. Just saying that this is what happened to our family.

This facility's administration is virtually unwilling to take feedback about how to improve. They perceive families as a nuisance. When my loved one was there, she had a bed sore and other health issues that were not properly treated. There are some lovely care managers that work directly with the residents but the administration clearly keep the floors understaffed which makes it very difficult to get adequate care very difficult. Thankfully, I moved my family member to a wonderful place and there has been significant health improvements.

They show you the bells and the whistles; however, they do not live up to what they promise. Under-staffed evenings and weekends especially in the Assisted Living area. [removed]. Zero activities on the weekends for assisted living and very little activities for independent living on the weekends. Nurse leaves at 9P during the week. LPNs, CNAs, or sometimes one of each are left to work evening and overnight hours when they are not sleeping. Care sheet will nickel and dime you to an astronomical rate.

Bad experience

I have been in this facility many times visiting family and friends. I have observed residents wait very long periods of time for a staff to assist them with the restroom or other care needs. After residents have pulled their cords for help in their rooms they sometimes have to wait 45+ minutes for a staff member to respond. I have seen family members search the building for staff and have found no one to assist their family member. Many of the staff members out outside together on "smoke breaks" socially with each other while the needs of residents go unmet. This is completely unacceptable, especially with the extremely high rates Sunrise of Cascade charges residents for care. [Removed], I would STRONGLY encourage you to rectify this situation unless you want a visit/investigation from the state licensing agency and the local long-term care ombudsman. Be aware that the family and friends of residents are watching VERY closely as to what goes on in your facility.

Awful place -- doesn't listen to residents; allows signal blockers to keep me from speaking with my family member! Do not put your family here -- they treat them badly plus YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TALK TO THEM unless you spend a small fortune wiring the place correctly.

My relative had been here for several years. When they did not need services it was not bad - when they became older and needed services they have been horrible - uncaring, no empathy and basically telling residents they are old and shouldn't try to remain independent - probably because it makes them more money. If you expect to need services do NOT go here!

I chose Sunrise after hearing a lot of positive info. Personal experience was terrible. My mother hated the place and we moved out 5 days later. Was charged more money after the initial $1000 deposit although there was no way to document the reason for the charges. She sat in front of the TV. My mother was in a shared suite (small room) with shared bathroom. For the same money we went to Oakridges where she had a living room,bedroom, private bath,washer/dryer,balcony. Staff were so helpful.

My family member arrived at The Quadrangle in 2008...It was a good facility at the time...many good nurses and caregivers!! Loved them all... However, over the years it went progressively downhill. It was once a place that felt like home for my mother until many of the excellent nurses/caregivers were replaced with corporate types that had no understanding of patient care..only THE BOTTOM LINE...It was very apparent because the residents were not treated like family anymore and the staff was constantly complaining about how they hated to be there...The patient call bell was mostly ignored by caregivers or the system was down....Very unacceptable!! There were still a small amount of caring staff when I decided to move my mother that I miss...However, the bad far outweighed the good.. The many times we spoke to the director we received a smile and lip service... the director has no idea about human contact and aging. I actually think she was promoted. Too bad for the residents. This is a shame because this place could be a wonderful facility if not for the management. I agree with another review...Don't let the landscaping and smiles trick you..

I would not advise anyone to put their loved ones with Alzheimers or Dementia in this facility! They put us through hell. They are not equipt to handle the residents and they just want them to sit in a wheelchair and not do anything all day, it was defiantly a horrible experience.

My parents lived there for a short time on the memory floor - one parent with memory issues and one without, so we were able to know what was going on with their care. Lots of problems - medicine repeatedly not given at the proper time or at all, inconsistent help, several falls when the caregivers didn't come, poor communication and lack of a schedule. They failed miserably to deliver what Sunrise had promised - in my parents' own words.

I'm not sure why someone would write a review based on a "visit" and the a dog and pony show. This place promises staff qualified to provide care. They are not. Just because the head nurse is doesn't mean that they others hired have background and knowledge to care for those in Assisted Living. Residents fall, don't get medications on time, nothing is provided in writing, passing along of information to next shift or weekend shift is non-existent. Oh and AL showers are non-ADA compliant...so forget these poor elderly people being safe...can't even fit a small stool in the shower for safety. Guess being grandfathered in is a good excuse rather than taking in a lot of money and actually fixing the issue.

My mother was there for 2 weeks and both weekends, she was intimidated by the nursend so mucheck that she was afraid of the nurse. The nurse shamed my mother for using a wheelchair instead of her walker, in front of the other residents! Avoid this place, there are better options nearby!

This is the worst place..my friend has been here for awhile. Everyone here is so unhappy. The staff changes every week. I wouldn't let my family live here. BEWARE~....they have been turned into the state and DSS.

mom is new at Sunrise and we were overwhelmed with how much they appeared to care for her until we went to visit her and twice she was not clean and her teeth had not been brushed and she smelled. When we brought our concerns to the directors they charged us another 1000.00 a month for the next package price and said the package we had been given when she moved in only included one shower so it was basically our fault she was dirty but now that we were paying more they assured us she would be clean. I was hoping 4400.00 a month gave you some dignity and self respect but apparently that only happens when you are getting to 5000.00+ a month. They acted like we were the bad guys for speaking up and since it will be too hard on mom to move her elsewhere we are stuck feeling like everyone hates us there. The staff does not care about families unless you are quiet and never speak up. We feel it is all about the money there and the care for the resident is second at best. They had no problem taking her out on activities looking dirty with greasy hair and a dirty diaper. Nice-well they "promised" it would be better now....for a price

Our mother was there after surgery on her elbow. HORRIBLE, negligent care, BRUTAL PT, that violated MD orders. Negligent meds administration... the list goes on. NEVER EVER let a family member be admitted here!! The address and landscaping may fool you, but AVOID THIS FACILITY!!

Just got my grandma out of here. Bad experience. She was not clean, she was left sitting on a couch for 14 or 15 hrs a day. It was awful. It looks pretty and clean but all good things stop there.

My grandmother was in the memory care unit. It looks nice but that's it. She was not clean, I found her slumped on a couch multiple times. The nurse is nasty. The staff is over-worked but seem to mean well. I think this facility could be nice but has very bad, disconnected management, at all levels. I got no resolution form any management person. They take a lot of notes but don't communicate with the staff and don't follow-up. I also noticed several fractures happening to residents while my grandmother was there, VERY concerning. I would NOT recommend this facility .

We've had so many problems here in the last 5 years it's just sad, first the cleaning staff just sucks, we actually hired our own staff to clean my mothers room as the sunrise staff failed. The care is poor at best, out of 30 times we've asked them to have her dressed and downstairs only twice has this actually occurred. I've seen more intelligent staff at dog daycare facilities. We even had the state come in and investigate them.

Worst place ever!!! I BEG of you to not place your loved one here!! My mother has had to wait over an hour and a half after hitting her "call button" for a response on numerous occasions. The first time was on her very first night there, she fell out of her bed, layed on the floor for over an hour to wait for help. UNACCEPTABLE!!! This is the normal response time. Food is absolute garbage. Staff is very incompetent. Overall one of the worst facilities I've seen. I've had my mother in a few facilities. My mom is a stroke patient and needs less care than some that I've seen in this facility. She's paralyzed on her left side so she needs a hand. I live very close so I visit every day. I feel sorry for the ones who live here and have no family to "stick up" for them. Horrible experience overall. Communication with the "higher ups"....good luck!! It took almost a month to get a response. I guess my point is...don't send your loved one here. I explored all the local facilities. This was unfortunately the best available. We've only been here a month and my mother has had way too many issues to post about. For the amount of money charged for a "level of care"...it's a complete joke. If you have the time and money...keep searching, don't listen to the staff that gets you into these places because I can assure you...after you meet and sign that contract, you'll never see "them" again.
