Sunrise Senior Living

We had a terrible experience with my mother. While many of the staff are friendly and kind, the management is horrible, unresponsive, and focused on money not caring for the residents. I think this goes all the way up to the top at sunrise. The executive director didn't even know my mother's name after almost a year. We spoke to staff who told us they were not getting the protective equipment they needed for the pandemic and that they even fired one staff member who spoke up. He was an activity leader and was one of my mother's favorites. Shame on this place

[name removed] called me this morning and left a voicemail at 9:12am to see if I wanted Zoom or FaceTime. I called back at 9:48am and apparently she has another Zoom at 10am and needed to reschedule my time. I am supposed to have that call at 12:30pm today now. I am not sure how in 30 minutes time my meeting time had to be changed. She did not say anything about changing my time on her voicemail earlier that morning. I can’t really rate a property that I haven’t had contact with yet, hence the one star.

We toured this facility. It was very depressing and smelled. I was surprised since it is in such a nice part of town

Not inviting at all. Lots of construction going on. Sharing of bathrooms not good.

I have a loved one here and this place is horrible. I visit every day and I witness what goes on. If you call for help it takes close to an hour for someone to come in. There is only 1 person who gives out medications for the whole place and that person isnt an actual nurse she is some kind of tech.When you come to see the place they are so nice to you and promise your loved one will have so much fun here but do not be fooled. DO NOT COME HERE !!

Poor management, found my daddy on the floor...no caregivers nearby and he has no call button. So much more.... DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONES IN THIS POORLY MANAGED FACILITY. VERY DISAPPOINTED in the decline in their rating. Obviously there's a reason.

The Marketing person is telling people this community is an assisted living facility, which it is not! Also, the marketing person lied to us about the apartment we were going to get. We told her which apartment we were interested in after looking at several. The General Manager was out of the office that day, and she told us we would have to wait for the General Manager to make the decision. This was a right out lie. We later found out that she had the authority to sign us up for the apartment we wanted and gave the apartment to another person. There are other things that I have experienced in order to give my review a 1 star. The food is lacking. Most of the time the food is not hot. We are supposed to get housekeeping once a week, but that rarely happens. The activity director is worthless. She rarely participates. She is quite rude to the residents. The General Manager seems to let the Marketing person and activity director walk all over him.

The community is clean and the staff members have all been pretty friendly. Our loved one is on a special diet so they accommodating special meals, and we do know the activities are coming back. However, if you have a needy loved one do not take them there. They cannot manage incontinence, they are just not up to par.

My loved one had a fall while on the phone with me and it took 45 min before we could get her help. The ambulance responded before I could get ahold of the community. Communication is awful the dr on staff is argumentative and have left the front desk unattended and they were unreachable. I would not recommend this community to others

The condo is listed at one price and when you read the fine print you learn that the Jefferson is charging a mandatory [fee removed] monthly second HOA fee in addition to regular mortgage, taxes, and first HOA fee. If you total [fee removed] per month times a 30 year mortgage the total is [fee removed] so why isn’t the condo being listed at this amount to not waste people’s time? It is beyond me why there is a mandatory [fee removed] if a person is 55+ who does not need meals and extra services. This fee should not be mandatory and if it is, the list price needs to be corrected online to reveal that the total costs is over [fee removed] for these condos. Be honest.

I have talked to other families interested in this community, and I told them to run the other way. Unless your loved one is comatose and in a wheel chair, they can't handle dementia patients. I tell people don't go near the place. Also having problem internally. Director abruptly resigned at the first of the year, and I've had billing problems the whole time we've been there. Every time I call, she's always on vacations. It seems like staff are always disappearing and quitting. It's a mess. I sent a letter stating that my loved one would not be returning, and I never even received an acknowledgement of that letter. I honestly don't know how they're even open. Two or three outstanding staff, rest were incompetent.

I would want others to know who are looking into Sunrise of Plymouth Beach that you should get full disclosure on all circumstances before moving your loved ones in here. We were very disappointed with the care services and I would not recommend them.

They appear to be very caregiving when I talked to them. However, my loved ones got Covid there and were hospitalized. I was allowed to see them at the hospital but not at Sunrise. Unfortunately, they were asymptomatic. They were in the hospital for reasons other than Covid. They deteriorated enough they could not go back to Sunrise. So we had to move them to a skilled nursing facility. I had to fight with Sunrise to go in to get their belongings. They wanted to throw them on the curb. When I got to go in, what I saw was horrifying. Her chair where she sat all the time had dried skin cells all over the headrest, there was filth in the shower. My loved ones told me they were never showered, just sponge bathed. The wheelchairs had food on them. When moving out, I asked for their clothes, and Sunrise packed up a laundry basket full of clothes that were stained, and there was vomit on the shoes. Prior to Covid when I was allowed to come in, things were better. They seemed very pleasant and helpful and accommodating to get us to move in there, but afterward everything changed, and I'm not sure how much of that was due to Covid. Our whole time there was during Covid.

The admin had very poor communication and so did the Doctors. I would not recommend this community to others.

I would not recommend the facility to anybody. I feel that they had no compassion or understanding. The communication was horrible. I found them very unprofessional. After my husband had passed away, I never got any condolences from the facility, and that disappointing to me.

To many drops to list: Called the front desk first time we learned [name removed] experiencing power outages to confirm the facility had power when temperatures dropped. After 4 days of power off and rolling blackouts - we received note from Sunrise director, to let us know generators were working. Medical updates the same, has been several days since medical staff called to say family member had been seen by physician and they had ordered medication. Since then, no update, do not know if medication worked, or if physician saw them again, have asked, and will ask again, often when we receive the insurance billing, we find there was something that required the physician to schedule time - but no one else calling to let you know. Activity Director is now back, after 3 months off - no pictures during this time, no updates - but when questioned on staffing, told everything would be the same. Definitely would suggest to look elsewhere - business over care.

It is important to help educate families so they are confident in their care decisions, this particular business Sunrise Assisted Living of Newtown Square Pennsylvania, fell short on their promises. I feel it is important to share an accurate representation, and the three and a half star rating that I see for this business is highly inaccurate! So many problems were met with intransigence instead of compassion,this is a deal breaker it's unacceptable!

If you are planning on sending a family member to the memory care unit with aggressive behaviors think again. I am aware of 5 residents that were either asked to leave or insinuated to leave the facility. Such a great option during covid. The communication is awful. When you place a call you do not often receive a return phone call/email. If you ask a question to 4 different staff members you will receive 4 different answers. You do not receive the services you are told about initially nor do you get what you pay for.

Please, Please DO NOT move your loved one to this facility. There are many other places in the Raleigh area that are far superior. The lack of communication, lack of care (both hands on and general mentality of those who work there), the awful meals that do not meet the residents dietary needs, and general apathy of this facilities management is nothing short of pitiful. Please, Look elsewhere... the contrast is stark. The sales pitch does not match the product. They had an awful COVID outbreak that somehow never got reported on the state wide metrics.

This last year a struggle for all senior facilities, and families. Sunrise of Frisco is a business first, learned in this time. Any suggestions for better practices are met with an excuse and dismissed. Three months without activities manager in memory care - messaging was nothing would change - but you could hear it and see the isolation in residents. Now the staff is back, messaging on what all is going to happen now. Physician onsite was seeing my family member and billing insurance without an update or a call. Family member on quarantine for several weeks because of a positive staff member - now told not all staff have or will take the vaccine. What are you to think or do, even more concerning as they provide an increase again for services? Would never recommend to anyone for memory care.
