Sunrise Senior Living

As a visitor to Sunrise, I rate it a D for these reasons: There is NO night time security which is a serious concern and dangerous for older residents. This facility keeps a dog in the lobby. No one in charge can tell me who this dog belongs to…the dog is NOT a companion dog or comfort animal since it is AGGRESSIVE toward visitors and BARKS CONSTANTLY. We find this absolutely absurd in a senior care facility. Sunrise is an expensive care facility and there are more secure, conducive residences for senior care.

Verv overpriced, they charge for every little thing the do. The food is subpar at best, my aunt would call me and say there was no snacks between meals and if you went to the kitchen you would get yelled at. During the activities they treated residents like children. Care was good but they are very under staffed.

We had visited Brighton Gardens of Winston Salem to consider them for the care of our mother with dementia. Post our visit our mother's situation deteriorated quickly and we needed to find her long term care and on [date removed] we contacted Brighton Gardens regarding availability. Brighton Gardens advised they did not have availability at the moment however if we brought them a $[removed]check they would put our mother on their wait list and we would be first in line. Brighton Gardens advised they would not cash the deposit check unless they had we admitted our mother as a resident. On [date removed] we found a memory care facility for our mother and it was not Brigthon Gardens. On [date removed] Brighton Gardens cashed the $[removed] check after being advised that our mother had been admitted somewhere else. I have spoken to the business manager and the executive director, to no avail and have yet to receive a refund.

I would give a zero star if possible. As we were looking for a memory care unit for our mother, we visited Brighton Gardens. We suddenly needed to have our mother placed in a memory care unit and reached out to Brighton Gardens. We were advised they did not have an opening at that time however if we would come that day and provide a $[removed] check for a hold that they would put our name on a wait list. We did not complete any paperwork and were advised check would not be cashed unless our mother secured a room. This was on [date removed]. We were able to locate a facility we liked much better than Brighton Gardens and they had an opening so we did not need to have our mother on Brighton Gardens waiting list. On [date removed] Brighton Gardens cashed the wait list check that was not valid. To date we cannot get a refund and continue to get the run around by the executive director [name removed].

I definitely would not recommend the Sunrise of Findlay to anyone. For them to ACTUALLY take care of the elderly. My mom was in the memory care unit, and they never did any activities with my mom. The aides all set around on their phones, or talking to each other. For the amount you pay to these facilities, it's just awful

Our experience with Brighton Gardens wasn't very good. My brother felt they were not responsive. My father felt they did not welcome him and left him on his own too much and were not inviting him to the various programs. He fell a lot was sent out to hospital and after one 2-night observation stay, the physician told my brother that he felt my dad needed rehab. My dad died. All in all, neither my brother nor my daughter would recommend Sunrise. It was not what was promised.

It is only for persons who are independent and able to care for themselves without additional supports. My mother was delivered meals but adequate supports to assist her in eating were not provided. So over a few days she started to dehydrate and was extremely hungry and was only fed by family as the staff there said they did not have time to do these supports. Promises are made, circumstances and needs discussed but there will be no change in staff routine to accommodate client needs except a focus on writing checks to the organization.

My mother has been here for 3 months but we will leave soon. Horrible place, bad atmosphere. Good employees are bullied, leave or can't do their job due to negative management. The sales manager is rude and obnoxious and residents live in fear of retaliation if they speak up. She has powerful friends and runs the place. Residents call management brown nosed. If you like the godfather come here. There is lots of nepotism in management but nobody cares. Lots of empty apartments. Sad place avoid. Might close in the near future if they don't address the issues. I can't give my real name or residents or my mum might suffer for it. This place needs to be inspected.

Sunrise of West Essex is a well oiled machine but for us it felt way to much like a corporate/institutional community for us and it was really experience. The price kept going on, it just felt very corporate and rigid. However the care was very good there.

Memory care is awful. The only activities they do is sit in front of the tv. Staff is very rough, with no empathy. Something is always "broken". Furniture out back is all broken, kitchen always has something not working. No communication with family members. Food awful too. Prices seem to go up, each month as well. Keep looking

Sunrise of Wayland is a mess. People do not return phone calls, poor organization and communication, aides do not know how to assist, food is awful, management is never there.

I would not recommend Sunrise of Cascade if you care about your loved one. My mother was living there when one of the aids hurt her wrist so bad she couldn't use her arm. She had waited for an hour and a half for help and when I went looking for the girl that was supposed to be helping she was busy chatting with another aid. I asked if she was going to help and she started toward her room. The next morning my mom couldn't use her arm and it was bruised and swollen. I went to talk with the director and she actually defended the girl. I also found my mom sleeping with her window wide open in the middle of winter. She was forgotten over and over for meals. As soon as possible my moved out of there.

We picked this community because of the convenient location. They don't always clean weekly. The Director does not always get back to me. The majority of the office people are friendly. The food is horrible. The value for the money is reasonable. There was issues with the billing.

Overall started out as a 4 but ended as a 1. Our loved one has spent 3 months there. She had PT the first month to improve her mobility. After therapy ended the staff did nothing to keep her moving. No inclusion in activities. When we moved her after 3 months she couldn't even stand on her own. They told her to go in her brief when she had to urinate. Total loss of dignity.

Find another place. This one is terrible. I’m afraid to post this because I fear they will take it out on her. Don’t do it. Don’t do it. Find another place. Find another place. Go Find another place.

Sunrise does not care about the residents. They only want the money. The Boca Property has a manager that blatantly lies to residents about everything from lack of staff to fixing things in community. They cannot keep staff, they let anyone in any condition move it. The building looks like it is 40 years old. I recently toured the place and spent time talking to a staff member who said they didn't recommend anyone moving in. We looked at independent and assisted. We left and chose a better facility

I toured this community and got a very unwelcoming feeling, our tour guide was not very friendly.

PLEASE DO NOT ALTER MY REVIEW. My father was in Memory Care at Sunrise if W.E. Third night there, my father fell after my explicit directions not to leave him unattended after he received his meds. Sure enough, staff left him unattended and they found him lying on the floor. Two months later my poor father passed just prior to the 3 ring circus of administrators (director, head nurse and coordinator of memory care) attempted to kick him out because I would not allow them to administer any more drugs. There is a total disconnect in communication on all levels…administrators, nurses, staff. I could go on and on. However, this is emotionally distressful for me to recall my poor father’s death and experience of living at Sunrise. I will add on to this review and fully disclose more shameful acts as soon as I stop blaming myself for allowing him to remain in their disrespectful and lack of caring custody.

Sunrise Webster has not had a consistent management team for more than 2 years. If I had known this it would have made a huge difference in sending Dad there. There are a lot of problems and they all stem from not having a solid management team. Really the staff was very nice to the family. Dad had a couple of people that looked out for him. But the majority of the staff taking care of Dad and this includes nursing was awful. They would leave him unattended for long hours and his medications never were right there. I expected so much more from this facility.

The place is like a high school mgmt has its groups.They don’t care about the residents & abuse their positions!Rude & disrespectful to the little ppl The residents in memory care are not fed or given hydration the staff talk to them terribly get irritated and frustrated very easily team lead [name removed] has made threats to a resident and nothing was done. I wouldn’t put my family member here unless you are very in tune and visit often. Even [name removed] will make it sound great over the phone but don’t believe the hype !!
