We were very unhappy with the care my Dad received. We had cameras in his room and saw my Dad laying on the floor the whole night because an aide called out and there was only 1 aide on the floor and she couldn't pick him up. She thought it was ok to give an 82 year old man a pillow and a blanket and leave him there !! We watched them be rude and disrespectful to him. We paid extra for additional showers and did not receive them. I could go on and on this was the worst experience for a family to go through. I would not recommend this facility at all.

Sunrise Huntcliff II was a consistently negative experience that caused me to move my Mother from there in just 60 days at considerable financial, emotional, and energy costs. The entire management team is inept, unresponsive, and not honest or forthcoming. They maintain minimal staff; some of whom are placed on caregiving duties without training such as how to shower resident, change a diaper, etc. All caregivers work the kitchen/dining room service which means 3x daily, they are not able to respond to safety pendant calls from A/L patients! The facility is minimally cleaned, meaning entry & lobby is presentable; but resident rooms are ignored or bypassed even after repeated requests. About half of the caregivers lead with their hearts and mean well; but are pressured with too many duties or are poorly trained. The younger caregivers tend to work 3rd shift or weekend, when supervision is not present, and they do as little as possible. I would never recommend this facility to anyone, for any reason! I was naive going into this process, but have learned much from this experience. I have researched other caregiving properties since. I understand the industry as a whole has ongoing challenges; but Huntcliff II falls short in every possible way.

So, my father was only there for about a month. During that time the staff didn't recognize that my father had gotten a UTI. About a month after he moved in he had contracted sepsis from said UTI and was hospitalized. I then took him out of Sunrise. While the facility was nice, the medical team was terrible. He had complained about the symptoms of a UTI but and even had the medical staff take a urine sample only to lose the sample and never bothered to treat his condition that lead to the sepsis. All while we paid around 20K for one month. I would not recommend that place to anyone. They called to tell me that he still owed 3K, get this, for the medical attention he received while there. In my opinion, I should be suing them right now.

Today, Monday [date removed], I went to visit my mother at Sunrise Senior Living at Chesterfield, where my Mother has made her residence for going on one year. The staff at this facility keeps a very loud and aggressive dog, which roams freely and unmuzzled. As soon as I walked through the front entrance, the Sunrise at Chesterfield dog charged at me barking loudly. The dog then placed his head in a low level position, moving it rapidly from side to side, and growling. I felt very unsafe. I tried kicking the dog away to keep him at bay, but was unsuccessful. Some lady there, who said she is the executive director, then told me I was banned from the property. What?!? Untrained and unruly dogs which possess an unstable temperament should not be mixing with elderly residents and their loved ones.

Our 88 year old grandmother was subject to bullying by director [name removed], our family retaliated against for asking questions, and as a result she had her keys taken and evicted with less than 1/2 day notice then her full refund promised was only partial, and sent to an estranged family member, not returned to my grandmother. Steer clear. Sue is completely unhinged and becomes terrifyingly angry when asked for answers. When the director is like this, it all rolls down hill from there. Even APS could not get her to answer questions. When a company leader fails to work with those assigned to protect the elderly there is clearly a problem.

When I went visit my friend, I once walked in on a caregiver on the phone in my friend's room on the phone. I walked into the Television room and found someone sleeping in a chair. Too often, there is no one to be found. Meal times seem very crazy - not organized at all. Not all of the people can eat in the kitchen. I told my friend's family what I saw. it is just so sad that people who can't talk or understand what's going on around them are just not cared. very sad!

My parents made arrangements to move into the assisted living building, Brighten Gardens, prior to my father's amputation surgery. My mother moved in while he was in rehab. Once in rehab he developed a pressure wound and then they were told that my father could not move into the assisted living building until he cleared the wound. As a diabetic with PAD it was unlikely that he would clear the wound anytime soon. At that point my mother realized that she was paying for assisted living she didn't need and it could be months before my father could move in to their new home, if at all. So the decided to move back into their condo, which they had already listed with a realtor. The staff at Stratford/Brighten Gardens were difficult at best considering they were not letting him move in and did not want to refund my parents any of the monies they had been charged regarding the care he had never received. We had to get a lawyer involved and they were only successful in getting them to agree to refund some of the funds after the lawyer contacted the executive offices of Sunrise Senior Living, who is the parent company for Stratford. The sales staff at Stratford/Brighten Gardens had absolutely no compassion for the situation my mother was in and were horribly unprofessional in their behavior.

Assisted Living eat in a dining room. Reminiscence residents eat in the kitchen with dishes clanging, continue noise, and being unable to eat in a calm environment. What is provided for the first two floors is NOT what is provided to the 3rd floor. If you are thinking about having your family member live there, visit during dinner and lunch. It is awful how much is expected from the 3rd floor staff. Some people don't even in the kitchen because there is no room. I will not use my name because I do not want to upset the staff that care for my sibling.

There are four members of the management staff. Not one of them has to slightest idea of how to manage facility none of them have any managerial expertise. This entire facility is either apathetic or inept. It almost seems as if they don't want us here. Two or three of us have to work complaining the office every week about the issues that are most pressing that week it took us two months to get the food straightened out till it comes out of the kitchen hot and presentable. This facility most definitely is the lowest rated facility in this town it is way overpriced compared to what you get for what you pay. Here are some incidents that will substantiate my statements there are four or five best months to rent apartments and bring in new residents into facility. June July August September. During those four months more people move does facility then move in. Was that because the ones that were here were driven out? Or was it because of the ineptitude of the salesman or trying to rent ap

I was informed by a friend that the temperature on the first floor is 60° in the winter months and the management can’t get the temperature up anymore, because the front door is opening throughout the day. For the cost of living here, you’d think that they would take better care of their residents. I guess I’ll have to bring this up with local media. Maybe that will help. The resident complained her room was too cold and they did give her a space heater to use. Common areas should be kept warm to at least 70°!

I have be a Sunrise at Mill Basin for a few years, they think more about money then the happiness and care of residents. My wife went away for a week and she was charged for meals and other services. I talked to the director about this and was told if I don’t like it leave, I will be leaving very soon I found a much nicer place where the care about residents. Sunrise at Mill Basin is getting very run down and the food is going downhill. They do not have the staff to take care of all the residents, the 11pm to 7am shift it is very hard to find somebody to help residents.

During our search for a Memory Care facility for my dad, the top facility recommended was Sunrise of Newton, based on the high level of care that we needed for my him(he has Parkinsonism and needs help with all of his activities of daily living). We were looking forward to having him be part of a community and to have social interaction. The facilities at Sunrise were beautiful and the staff were extremely friendly. The facility, however, was going through many personnel changes and many aspects of my dad's care fell through the cracks. First and foremost, we brought him there for the activities. Every day, an average of 6-7 events was posted. In reality, 0-1 occurred each day. When they did happen, they often forgot to bring my dad, or brought him down late. This also occurred for meals, and I found him, on multiple occasions, in the dining area by himself 2 hours after mealtime. The schedule indicated that fitness classes were supposed to occur on most days. In the 60+ days that my dad was there, they only occurred on 3 days. There was often little coordination when events were supposed to occur- with the kitchen being unaware of events that they were supposed to provide food. Most of the time, when I came to visit, my dad was in his room, by himself, staring out the window. Most concerning was the facilities inability to give him his medications at the times that he would normally get them (which is very important in Parkinsonism). Typically he would get his first dose of medication at 7am. There, there were several occasions where he hadn't received meds until after 9 (there was only 1 nurse distributing meds). In the evening, he would normally have his last dose of medication between 9 and 9:30. There was no one available at Sunrise to give meds after 8 pm, but even when we asked for them at 8, they would still sometimes give him is evening dose at 6:30. We ended up having to hire a private caregiver to collect the medication when it was brought to his room and give it to him at the appropriate time. Also, because of the staffing shortage, no one sat down with us to develop a care plan when he moved in. It wasn't until after I contacted the Executive Director that anyone sat down with us to review to create the plan. At that meeting, we were told that someone would look into the medication issue (which no one did)- and many of the other activities that had been promised did not occur. They did finally take the evening movie off the schedule (every night a movie was listed that was going to be played in the media room, but it never happened. It was very disappointing for my dad, who was looking forward to what was on the schedule). We payed for the highest level of care (nearly $[removed]/day) and still had to pay an extra $[removed]/day for a private caregiver to dress my dad (it was not done by the staff on a regular basis) and give him his night meds at 9 instead of 6:30 PM. There was one day that no one came in to get him for breakfast or give him medications (we found him half naked standing in his room at 10:30 AM). We asked for them to remind him to drink water- which the nurses did, but the caregivers did not. It doesn't seem like the level of care that we paid for actually was communicated to the staff. Despite our more than weekly reminders, it took more than 8 weeks for the facility to submit the necessary documentation to our long term care insurance to see if it was even a covered facility. The regular nursing staff was wonderful. There were several mistakes made by the agency visiting nurses (at least 3 that I was aware of). One evening, either my dad didn't receive his night medications (or they were given before 4 when our caregiver arrived). The staff was unable to reach anyone to rectify this. I had to bring them from home and administer them. These are just some of the examples of issues we experienced. At no time did the facility try to make up for the situation. The most we ever got was a "We are sorry, we'll do better." It looks like the new staffing was going to make some changes, but overall we were extraordinarily disappointed with our experience at Sunrise of Newton.

Initially we had a great positive impression. Building, all staff being friendly, responsiveness. As we started the process of contracting, we had to discover for ourselves the additional costs -- level of care fee was by DAY vs. other places have only monthly fee, additional fee charged to administer meds--and based on type of meds, i.e. eye drops --this is not typical to other places. Though the front end fee was gifted, besides the base room rent fee, the level of care (currently at 1, they evalutated at 2), the total starting cost was close to $[removed]/month. We asked for the breakdown in writing, which was never given. The additional costs were shared upon several calls, but nothing in writing. Also they were unkind and indescent NOT to reimburse the majority of the deposit. I felt as though we were being discouraged by using all the additional line by line fees due to our cultural background. I will NOT recommend this site.

My loved one was previously a resident at Sunrise of Fairfield and we did not have a good experience. It was unacceptable. [Name removed], who is in charge of the Aides, drove us away. We had many issues and disagreements about my loved one's care, including bed pan use refusal and Hoyer lift use/issues. For example, it took them 90 minutes to move my loved one to the restroom via the Hoyer lift. We could no longer tolerate it.

Awful place. The Director [name removed] will lie to your face and tell your getting into a place where 24/7 nurse (lie) dining room open 24/7( lie) clothes go missing but you do get other people's clothes , 1 person that cleans rooms, 16 resident in memory care with 2 care people. She will tell you your loved one is getting extra care and charge you for it and no extra care. Facility is dirty, always something broken in the room. Air conditioning didn't work for 2 years. New room frig was broken. The workers here are overworked because they are understaffed all the time. The one good thing is the workers that have been here for years.. they stay because they love the residents. Totally overpriced. Should be charging a lot less.lots of promise..... just to get you in the door.
