Sunrise Senior Living

My loved one lived in the Terrace Club level for almost 2 years. There are many many things wrong with this level. First and foremost, the floor lead manager, [name removed], runs the floor like a prison warden. I want to be very clear. Residents conform to Sunrise, not the other way around. They even employ the same terminology-(room sweeps for counterfeit items ). Seriously, if a rule does not exist, they will make one up. Ask for help from director and they say they must take it to some executive board. The majority of the care staff are incompetent. They hire off the street, no experience, fact. Nursing staff covers many floors so expect no personalized care. Ask questions and they say they don't know. Not helpful. Regardless of what they tell you, the training and care is poor. The care staff perform all chores, activities, laundry, serving food, etc. This leave almost no time for actual care of your loved ones. The walk into room to gather laundry or empty trash, do not say hello, never ask how anyone is doing and if a question is asked they speak from the other room or part of apartment. Very unperson-able. Cleaning is okay, never under bed or the fridge. Activities are so so. Off floor and out of building are okay activities are fine. On floor sing along seem generic, movies not of residents choice. Why not let residents choose. There are a couple of good care staff and they were so very welcomed. I scheduled many meetings and tried very hard to work with them. So many times [name removed] would sit directly in front of me and act like she cares when reality if completely different. It is as if she conspires with a couple of henchwomen on the floor to make things appear a certain way. All care places need to be regulated. Sunrise is the strictest ever, they employ tactics to prevent better living in my opinion. Many places are the same, Sunrise is one of the worse. Try at your own risk.

My parent came from hospital to Oak. My husband and I watched caregivers in the hall/entranceway complain about being bothered by patients requesting help. It turned my stomach; so unprofessional and disgusting. I hope my parent gets the care, rehab that is needed and can return to apartment on campus as soon as possible. Bad start.

The care and service at Sunrise of Unionville was disappointing. They were understaffed, the workers were very unhappy and it showed. Communication was very poor. If the emergency cord was pulled, no one came. The food and activities were okay. The maintenance was poor. The cost should have been 50% less than what was being charged. We paid expecting excellent care at a higher level of experience. The level of care did not warrant the cost. They definitely need better organization.

Brighton Gardens of Stamford promises a lot more than they deliver. The food is cheap grade and they often run out, the activities are boring and a lot of the residents are agitated due to lack of stimulation. Sales team sells it but they don't deliver. They are always short staffed, never enough help and the ones that are there don't move very fast. My Mom was on the floor in her room for 3 hours. Nobody responded to the pendant she pushed for help then they tell you "she never pushed it, it didn't register". I'm currently looking to move Mom out to another home.

The psws are wonderful ....[name removed]...[name removed] ..[name removed]...[name removed] and many more 100%. After my patient passed.....shhhhh ..admin was horrible! I had to fight for my living parent money back as my one parent died 2nd day of a month and we had to pay the full month! So lunch money do back. It took over 110 days plus multiple phone calls. I can't tell you how many. Neither [name removed] or [name removed] returned the calls until I got a little upset. So many calls mo call backs. Finally 1 with a promise to call [name removed] within 2 days To this day no call back. After which my parent Finally got the refund. Shame in you all! I'm disgusted!

My loved one needs assistance to use the restroom and she would wait over an hour during the day to get some help. They sell you the idea of care managers helping and little to nothing is done. Older folk are easier to contract a UTI and sitting there ever so often crying out for help so long to use the toilet made her hold her urine and made it easier for her to get a UTI. Lovely facility but something needs to be done about management and coordinators. The activities are limited to a group of people, I constantly ask [name removed] to get her involved but they leave her tucked away in her room most times I come to visit. This is not acceptable. I'm sorry to say, this is a beautiful building and staff who appear to be pleasant but that's not enough for my loved one. She needs better care.

This branch only appears to be 5 star. Place looks great, pleasant faces. However, Activities Director Staff is unorganized, especially some activities for seniors. Every time I'm there a family member is complaining. They are not consistent, they'll fix an issue and it goes right back to the same issue after some time has passed and your family suffers in the end. You are better off at another location, the overprice is not worth it for your loved ones. Try Sheepshead Bay or another location.

The food was very good and there were activities and outings, there was life at sunrise. Now 1 year later we are very very disappointed!! The food is so subpar and they feed the residents the same stuff, there are little to no activities anymore and no outings. There is little exercise and a general sadness to this place. It is expensive and for the amount we are paying, it's a waste of money. We used to enjoy coming here but not anymore. We did contact the corporate office but they were not helpful nor interested also very condescending towards us. We are looking for another facility for our relative. We would not recommend sunrise

I placed my Mother here for 1 month respite. Unfortunately she ended up in hospital after 24 hours at Sunrise from a pre-existing issue. Sunrise never called or followed up to see how my Mother was doing. On top of that they tried to cash a cheque for a full month of service a week and half after she left. Not impressed at all with Sunrise.

The facility is kept clean and has many activities for the residents, however anything of value will get stolen by staff. My Mother's 1 carat diamond engagement rind and her wedding band and other jewelry were stolen. The folded American Flag presented to her at my father's funeral was stolen as well.

the place is nice but there policies to move in is absurd. 3800 move in fee and you move in yourself. they don't give you a copy of the contract and charge you when a person isn't there. I'm disappointed with that and all they are there is to make money.

My grandmother lived at this facility for over 5 years. She would have given this place good reviews. However, once she started going down hill towards the time of her death some unexpected things happened. Her purse went missing along with her checkbook (supposedly inside the purse). We were contacted that fraudulent checks were trying to be cashed/used in her name. After getting the police involved a staff member finally fessed up that her purse was locked up in her office. We were told by management that was NOT protocol. No word on the checkbook as it was not in the purse at the time of discovery. Her wedding ring was also missing and replaced with a cheap faux diamond ring. Very disturbing and heartbreaking to see our elderly love ones taken advantage of at such an vulnerable state.

nice building Food is horrible always cold and not appealing at all The activities are not for many people and if you loose some-thing and it is found by staff they forget where they put it we have only been here for 2 weeks 2 weeks that have seen a night mare to me

The care is very good here for the residents in the memory care. I was expecting something different and found that they have a memory ward. It is a nice place and the staff are caring and work very hard to care for the residents. I feel like I am misplace because they are for people with memory care not independent people.

I didn't even want to go in here, from the outside it looks like a rundown hotel in a terrible neighborhood, right by the lightrail-who would put a retirement community in this area?! Management is very "sales-y" and I don't trust them. The apartments are dark, smell like smoke and open onto a concrete "courtyard" which is awful. Residents are not friendly, I don't care if it's cheaper than most places, there's a reason for it

My family and I are very dissatisfied with Sunrise Senior Living in Reston, VA. It's a beautiful facility which initially attracted us. However, so many of the staff, from management, to aides, even kitchen servers are curt and not welcoming, which you so want for your loved one. We have experienced staff not responding to the "fail proof" new alert system, failure to distribute medications accurately - despite repeated meetings and phone calls and written instructions, and now parking has been made impossible! They have removed all parking spots for visitors and require you find street parking, if available! And to make matters worse, the food is awful. For the exhorbitant amount of money we shell out for care, I surely wished we would have investigated more carefully other facilities as now, with our relative uncomfortable with change, it would be too disruptive - and they know it! I advise everyone to not only visit many facilities, but interview the residents and their family members for an accurate assessment. Don't go on outside beauty of the facility or hearsay. It's so frustrating for us since we fear our loved one will get even worse treatment if we complain to corporate so we choose to keep this review anonymous.

My compliant is the lack of visitor parking. I hav driven there several times just to see that there was no place to park.

Cons: My Mother has been in Brighton Gardens of Stamford for just about a month now. It has not been an overall good experience todate. The nurses did not respond to her medical needs in a professional manner and when they did they gave her the very medication she should NOT have and it made her very ill. The food is well below average but if your parents like white bread, starch, cream and sugar they will enjoy the food. There is a long wait for the food with confusing service. Aids tend to rush through personal care services doing most of the hair combing, washing and dressing to speed up the process but make the resident very dependent and more helpless. Everyone is gotten ready for bed from 7:30-8:30. My mother thinks she is in rehab or a hospital because of this early bed prep, since she normally would be up until 10 at least. Taking vitamins will put you in another price range. Taking your perant to an outside doctor with an aid that goes into the medical office and speaks for your parent will cost $25 per hour door to door. This could add up quickly. They have a medical shuttle which runs only on Mondays with an aid that will walk your parent to the door of medical office and pick then up but an 95 year old needs a personal advocate to speak for them that knows them and does not need to wait on a bus with stops along the way or in an office for quite some time. Women keeps breaking into my Mothers room and yeling at her. Staff doesn't seem to have control of this. Staff perhaps is not well trained. Pros: The staff is extremely friendly and they really want the residents to have a good experience. It is nicely appointed. The entertainment is very sophisticated at times and at times just fun. The front desk personel are really special people with unlimited patience and compassion. The dog is a nice touch.

overpriced, unclean and chaotic. Not the environment I was told it would be for my parent. Will be relocating my parent away from this place.
