Sunrise Senior Living

Saw only one staff member on memory care floor and she was coloring by herself. residents were on their own and looking for guidance. Downstairs public rooms were cozy and comfortable. Apartments were small. Expensive for what it was.

Not clean as i liked for my mom. The staff was not friendly. I was not happy that the other patients seemed very down and no one could ever smile. My mom is very out going and up beat. This community was not good for my mom to be in. Other families should consider other options

One of their selling points is that your parent will see a doctor regularly but that doesnt happen. A doctor occasionally walks around and looks for a visible ailment like an ER but that is it. I am very disappointed.

The community is very beautiful. However, the staff was not responsive to my loved one. Everyday I had to call the staff just to make sure that my loved one was getting the care needed. The community did not offer any activities because everyone in the community looked comatose or were sleep. I would recommend this community to only people that can not do anything any longer.

The community is beautiful and clean. Everyone is very friendly. The director of sales was very knowledgeable. The community has a great menu and variety of food choices available. The managing Nurse was not helpful and there was a lot of miscommunication. The nursing and care staff did not use their resources to care for my loved one making things difficult for my loved one and myself. There was a lack of training on how to work with certain care needs.

Within a week of moving my parents into BG on Firday August 4th, we were advised by more than 2 health care professionals that Sunrise is the McDonald's of Senior Assisted Living, and my entire family agrees. The care that we were expecting Mom to receive is sub-par. The menu is limited, and the staff is undermanned, under paid and just not trained well. This is reflected in their performance. My parents are DEFINITELY NOT receiving their money's worth. At the very first meal my parents, sister and I had at BG, 2 different residents whispered to my mom "if you have any valuables here, get them out!!!" Sure enough, within the first 24 hours of my parents being residents, my moms cigarette case went missing, it was filled with jewelry. My parents haven't even been in the facility for 2 weeks, and already they have my sister and I looking for a new place for them to live. When my mom pulls the cord for assistance to use the bathroom, a staff member comes running to reset the cord, like they're being timed, but then they immediate leave, saying that they are working with other patients and will be back shortly as then run out the door, not to return for 20-30 minutes. This is unacceptable and it happens every time my mom needs to use the bathroom!! She is in a wheelchair and is going to soil herself one of these days because the staff is undermanned. They not only perform these duties, but they also are the food servers, so during meal times they get called to assist seniors in their rooms, leaving the dining room short on help, which is unfair to everyone and the help can be very rude at times. The facility itself is very nice, and the Supervisors are good so this is not a knock on them, but for the $9000+ per month my parents are being charged, the care doesn't come close to justifying the cost.

Loved the atmosphere, and they had an availaility for the room plan and location we wanted.

An elderly relative was admitted to Bedford Court (in Olney), with some broken bones. It was understood, due to the comments on their site, it would be a good nursing/rehabilitation facility. We were grateful to find a place and comforted by the admissions person who assured us that proper care would be received. She was placed in a very small portion of a small room. We thought this too shall pass; she'll be able to leave soon. During the first week, twice our family member was found in a soaked gown & bedding during the mid-morning. I called and spoke to the social worker, who insisted she was the patient advocate and definitely the go-to person with concerns or questions. The aides(?) would continually place drinks and items on the side which needed healing. Items brought in by family members, to relieve various concerns were never used. And, the social worker seemed more talk than action. The bottom line was this loved one, 2 ½ weeks later, broke something else at the facility. No one knew why or how. Bedford Court asked if she wanted to be attended to at the facility or hospital. The answer was hospital. The hospital called me an hour later, once she arrived. Bedford Court called me 2 hours after she had arrived. The head of therapy, at Bedford Court was VERY conscientious and detailed, when he knew the concerns of the resident. The social worker at Bedford Court seemed to me to be mostly talk and little action. And, it wasn’t until I was packing my family member's personal items, I had a good talk with the head of nursing who knew little about the lack of care given to our family member, even though her representative was at a family meeting with the staff. At Bedford Court, in the rehabilitation section, it seems the right hand does not talk to the left hand.

My husband is staying here at this community and it has not be not positive so far. The staff are doing their best to accommodate and make my husband feel comfortable. They are very patient with his cooperation.

The building itself is lovely. The majority of the employees are very pleasant. The care takers are very under staffed and the care management side of matters is not well run/organized. For what one is paying, the customer service is not up to par. The Director is great but he does not oversee the day-to-day care (in fact, I'm not sure who does). Dining is fine but could use healthier options for residents and their guests.

What we discovered overall is that the focus of the management was much more on revenue, than quality of life. What they charged ended up being considerably more, and especially with medications. They overcharge, and gave us a hard time about her self medicating. They made it a burden on us to have her do her own medication, and tried to make it so difficult that we would pay them. It seemed that if you even hiccuped the would find a way to charge. She complained a lot that she was hurried and rushed, and she was very uncomfortable. She felt like she was in an institution rather than an assisted living. The maintenance was good and it was clean, she liked the food, but it was not a comfortable place to live.

Both of my parents were there. Poor call returns from staff nurses, administration and team leaders. The food was terrible!! The menu was not appropriate nor healthy for the elderly population they serve. Examples of the food were: frozen cheese pizza, hot dogs, chicken breast sandwiches (chicken was 2" thick), dry turkey, some brown/grey colored soup they insisted was vegetable but had no resemblance of vegetable soup, lots and lots of chicken.....I could go on and on about the poor food choices. Definitely need a new chef!! Often ran out of food items like ice cream, soft drinks and juices. How do you run out of items when someone is paying as much as they paid to live there. Some of the staff were excellent while others were cold hearted and just there for a paycheck. Another issue there is their resident pet. It is an over sized dog that plopped itself down in the lobby. Residents, visitors and family have to walk around this monument of a dog. He was a true tripping hazard for the residents. The dog is also bipolar....one day he would greet you like your his long lost friend the next day he was barking at you. I did hear they went up in cost after we left----definitely not getting the best care for your bucks here!!

Sunrise Assisted Living Facility is clean and the chef is a very valuable asset to the facility. The aides were most often pleasant and made my father comfortable. We appreciated all their efforts and feel that they are under compensated. The "professional" staff is extremely unprofessional. They provide misinformation when specific questions are asked and then deny they ever said anything to the family. They will sit you down initially and explain their fees and immediately increase them when you sign a contract. They do not communicate with the family in 3 month intervals as promised and purposely avoid contact with the family during serious issues. Some issues included the type of bed allowed, the errors in billing that they "were unaware of", and the blatant lie they told about the improved health and likely return of someone placed in hospice. They went as far as to suggest "leaving the belongings in the room, so they could charge the next months rent!!" DISGUSTING. How anyone could justify giving a family false hope in a terminal situation is just disgraceful. They lie, steal your money and then try to say it's all in the patient's best interest. They told one woman who had no where to go...you are out of money and you have to leave. This is not my idea of quality care. Please do the research before you place your precious parents and grandparents here. They put on a good show but only care about the money.

Review limitations: My expectations might have been too high. I think Sunrise was oversold to me. That said... Food is very good. The entire facility is kept very clean and looks good. Care is not nearly individualized enough. Doctors on staff appear to be okay, but they are kind of passive. They offer lots of activities, but participation is small in number. Administration is a bit unorganized. The aides are okay. Expensive.

Our family member has been at Brighton Gardens for many months. The staff is generally pleasant and residents are clean and free of odors, hence the 2 stars. However, there have been many serious medication administration and management failures that have now imperiled our family member long term and Brighton Gardens has proven to be more interested in covering their tracks than in owning up to their responsibilities and correcting the systemic communication problems in the building. At over $8,000/month I certainly do not recommend this place.

Assisted Living, No Independent. 2 bedroom is inadequate, no kitchen. single bath. Similar policy as Sunrise - Tustin, I would have to live in assisted living facility that's rather small.

She was not happy there at all. We had to go ahead and move her to another facility.

They try hard, and it looks good. Under the trying though is a lack of actual "doing". I have no idea if it is better anywhere else though. It seems they only do A, B and C which are quite costly. Then you need to add "D" also which is even a higher cost.

Sunrise of Alexandria is not going well. The care being received is not worth the cost of it. Overall it has not gone well. I am actually looking for another facility right now.

Our first impression was extremely positive. Lots of activity, nice facilities, extremely friendly residents and staff. The downfall were the rooms. They are tiny with very little light other than the corner studio of which there are only 2. Because of this we cannot consider this facility.
