Sunrise Senior Living

This is one of the places I toured when I was looking. We didn't choose it because it had a smell that was off-putting. The people were nice, but the smell was a deal breaker.

It is terrific value for those who qualify. Staff is friendly, though some have not been fully respectful. Design of the building could be a little better for seniors. For example, there could be buttons to automatically open doors to and from the courtyard, and there could have been places to park rollators, both outside the room and in the dining room. Some residents complain about the institutional quality of the food.

Sunrise is a beautifully kept community but lacks something in the way of good management when it comes to care staff. There is a lot of "passing the buck" when things aren't done according to the care plan and ultimately the family needs to intervene. At 5k per month I think this is a big problem. Although there are activities offered residents are often not as engaged as I would expect to see. This is definitely a community dominated by older residents 80+ who are not able to care for themselves but not yet ready for nursing care. In our opinion it's pretty but not worth the pretty penny!

I found the units to be small and the atmosphere to be very plain and depressing.

Fancy decor but still reasonably comfortable. Primarily regular senior care with relatively small memory care unit. House dog and cat. Second best for walking areas but way behind Silverado. Good activities and nice staff. Monthly wellness visit from nurse practitioner. Nurses leave at 6 pm but on call. $4530 - 5190 depending on level of care and goes up more with higher levels of care in the future. Admin fee $1500. Probably best alternative if can't afford silverado.

Just read the review from November 2013. It is nearly a year later and I couldn't have said it better. No first day greeting, orientation for new residents, and basically the new resident and families fend for themselves. I also agree that the facility is lovely and clean. My mother moved in Sept 9, 2014 although the rent was paid from Sept 1, 2014. My sister confirmed with them that the room was all ready and the key would be waiting for them. The room was not ready. Carpeting with spots, bathroom needed repairs and the key wasn't ready for them. No one met them. My sister was in tears trying to figure everything out on her own. All of this with my mother who was crying because she didn't want to move there. No assistance with this transition at all. The marketing materials show a Mission Statement that apparently is in print only, not reality. Monthly activity board is so congested and in such small print making it nearly impossible to decipher or read. If anyone attempted to think like an elderly person, large print and a daily activity board strategically placed, would make sense. There is very little to nonexistent one-on-one interaction to get to know the resident's preferences and needs. What is the policy for handling drugs that residents bring with them? We were told it was under lock and key, yet so far a brand new unopened memory pill prescription can't be found. My sister had my mom's name written all over it and wanted to take them home. Why is the same prescription $180 at Sunrise, when my sister paid $62 at the local pharmacy? Why is it that staff don't wear name tags.? Being new, there is no way of knowing who people are. My mom is paying extra for the Terrace program, yet we have complained that she isn't being reminded to go. She loves the activities and outings but needs a "gentle reminder" direct quote from marketing materials. I addressed all of these issues and more with Gretchen the person who oversees this facility. I even made several recommendations. It seems that everything just happened that particular day, week, time. We'll trained in telling family what they want to hear. The front door is not always monitored. I have walked in several times and no one was there. That isn't as secure as their marketing materials would have you believe. We have not asked for anything that is not advertised. I believe there is a policy for resident's personal drugs. I'm sure there are other policies that aren't being followed. Even name badges are required in many facilities. Unless family and or friends are on site regularly, everything seems great. The staff are friendly and are very respectful to the residents. It's the one-on-one that is missing. If my mom didn't need some monitoring, she could have lived at home. This is what we expect and are paying for.

My sister and I visited, we liked it due to the segregated levels of care but only felt that the entry level was comfortable for my Mom. It felt like a nursing home to us on every level except the first. We did like the fact that residents could take part in setting up tables for meals. The staff was friendly and we liked that residents could help set tables for meals. They have a friendly staff and the rooms are nicely laid out.

Nice location. Rooms were a bit small. Costly for memory residents. Compared to Mill Basin residence it was average.

It's working out okay. Their stairs need to be cleaned really bad, or re-carpeted really badly. I think they are a little overpriced, especially since there are things they can't help with. I'm not real familiar with how attentive and responsive they are since I am not there all the time. She seems to be busy all day long, so the activities seem to be good. I have eaten there one time and it was fine the time I had it. I don't think Sunrise is as good as it's advertised, but we like the size, and the feeling of it. It's more homey, there aren't as many people here as where she was before.

For the most part they do a good job at Sunrise of Lynnfield. The facility itself is well kept and clean, and they've got a lot of amenities and activities to provide for their residents. However, I've had problems when it comes to working with their CNA staff, and it has negatively impacted the whole experience. They could really use some training in communication skills.

Overall I'm happy with the services of Sunrise at Sterling Canyon. There were a couple of bumps and bruises at first but most have been sorted out now that my dad is settled in. The people are great. I love the fact that staff is friendly and check up on my dad. Anytime there's a problem, the staff are always concerned and jumped right on fixing the issue. There are still a few issues but I would recommend this facility to others. They do need better control over the resident's medications, and better protocol. They need a suggestion box too.

The facilities and programs were close to top notch, but so was the price and the hard sell from a difficult to deal with sales staff.

This was just an average experience. They tried to keep it clean. It just always had an overwhelming stench of deodorizers and cleanser. There wasn't much fresh air. The staff would often be gathered talking and laughing by themselves, even with patients nearby slumped in their chairs, in obvious need of assistance.

Met with Valerie Parker @ 9:45 on 8/27. Very pleasant and informative. Much larger facility but partioned memory care section on ground floor. The floor in the common kitchen area was sticky. Observed and interacted with numerous staff and residents as well as a couple activities. Not as impressive as the GF site visiited the day before. Courtyard much smaller and I believe the a la cart services could add up.

Assisted living Allows pets Pricey

My loved one stayed here for a time and unfortunately the community just was not a good fit for her. It was a nice looking place, and the staff were all very friendly, Unfortunately the care just wasn't quite up to what she needed, and since she was on the younger end of what they accept she didn't feel she fit in socially. They seem like they could be a good place, but it just was not a good fit for our loved one.

Nice facility. Not much room for activities for dementia care. Very friendly staff. $4,950.

On the whole it's kept very nice. The care was very good, very kind and attentive. He was treated well there. But they weren't necessarily very responsive, there were some falls. They don't seem to care for the food.

This is a beautiful community but it is strictly ala carte. Everything is extra. I have to move my mom because I can't afford what she needs there. However, if you can afford it...it is lovely, the nurses are outstanding.

Nice facility....a little pricy with their pricing done on a daily basis...and then any add on that may be needed
