Sunrise Senior Living

We have had a few issues with Sunrise, however, the management has been very willing to correct them quickly. I must say, however, that unless you speak with upper management (i.e.: executive director or care director), you are wasting your time. Overall the staff has been kind, and supportive. There are issues with training, and informing new shifts of procedures. Even with our frustration, we are more positive than negative. Food is good, rooms are kept clean. Billing is another issue - daily rates can increase without any notification which can cause an increase of thousands - we are very unhappy about this.

Don't judge a book by it's cover. The promises made in the glossy brochure and the over-friendliness during scheduled visits mask the reality. This is an expensive nursing home for those who are compliant and obedient. Read the fine print!

Not impressed at all! Needs updating. Too small & cramped in many ways

So far it's okay. We aren't always happy with the quality of food. The staff are pretty attentive in the dining room. They told us the price would be one thing, but then when you get the add ons, it adds up quite a bit. It's usually relatively clean, The staff is all very friendly. It's still a pretty new experience, and we didn't really know what to ask about. I would give them three and a quarter at this point.

I toured here. It looked and seemed to be a much nicer place. [removed] They were also a lot more expensive, even for a shared room.

Sunrise at Orchard was not a very good experience. My parents are no longer there. They piecemeal charged you for everything. I didn't like that at all. I felt pressured to drop our doctor and use their doctor at the facility. A PA saw them and wanted to make a lot of changes. He called for permission to change their medication and I said as long as their health is not affected than it was okay. Well literally within 3 days my mom was a wreck. She had severe depression problems. She would literally scratch holes in her arms and legs. The PA also prescribed pradaxa for my dad and he developed diarrhea that was black and thick. He had to be taken to the hospital and it turned out he had internal bleeding from that medication. They also informed us that the laundry is all done individually and laundry wouldn't disappear or get mixed up and that wasn't the case. We were always having issues with that. It was an extremely bad experience and I would never go back.

Very cheery, but too expensive for my mom to afford

Sunrise of Leominster seemed like a nice place, unfortunately it just wasn't a great fit for our loved one in terms of the level of care they provide. The staff here was friendly and they tried their best to be accommodating, however. I think it might be a nice place for someone with fewer care needs than our loved one had.

They have some workers there that are really great, but they told us they would have care managers for each floor, and that is somewhat true, but it is a hard business and it seems like they change staff all the time. They also said they could handle a catheter, but that wasn't true.

I am so grateful to Marcus at A Place for Mom for helping me find Sunrise of Chesterfield. The facility is exquisite and the care givers are kind. My father is safe and surrounded by a beautiful building. His only concern is there seems to be short staffing so residents spend a long time waiting for meds and transport if they are wheel chair dependent. Hopefully, this situation will improve.

Our experience with Sunrise of Westlake Village has been somewhat mixed. It's a nice looking place, but I think there are some issues with the staff. There's been a lot of turnover in the care staff. In addition, I've had a lot of difficulty working with the management, they can be hard to get in touch with, and getting them to follow through on requests has been an issue. I also think the food could use work.

Sunrise of Westlake Village is okay. I was out of state so I was always asking for more communication with them. Well, that wasn't really happening. They definitely need to improve in that area.

This place was unable to please us the first couple of weeks dad was there. Not enough staff. Wouldn't keep room clean. Laundry forgotten. Dad forgotten when it was time to take him to eat. After much communication on our concerns I think it has finally got better. They seem to understand his needs. So I would say if your independent on your needs this place is good. But we are paying for much extra care since he is not able to do things on his own.

We toured several of the Sunrise communities in our search around the area. They were all pretty similar. They were all okay, none of them were terrible, and they weren't overly impressive either.

The medical staff does not really understand what they should be doing as far as my husband is concerned. He is perfectly happy there, but I have had some issues with them medically that I don't like. He has certain medical problems that they don't know how to deal with.

Our experience with Sunrise at Reston Town Center has been somewhat mixed. The facility itself is nice, and always very clean, and the staff seem friendly for the most part. However, I think they could be more attentive when it comes to the day to day changes in the behavior of their residents. I ended up needing to take my loved one in to the emergency room based on some behavioral changes that they hadn't noticed until I visited.

We have had a lot of issues and frustrations with Sunrise of Alexandria. It's very nice and clean, and the people seem friendly. However there is a severe lack in communication. We have had numerous billing issues. My loved one has fallen a few times, and their response has not been ideal. I have a hard time getting anyone to return my calls, or get back to me to discuss incidents.

I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean for the most part, and all of the staff I met seemed friendly. However I didn't like the layout of the community, the assisted living portion where my loved one would have been living just felt cramped and depressing. The rooms were small and seemed like they might be difficult to navigate with a walker or a wheelchair.

Sunrise at Northville needs additional staff especially for the evening. They also need more social activities for the residents at this facility. We are not too happy with this facility right now. In fact I am on my way to talk to them about some of these issues.
