Sunrise Senior Living

Sunrise of Erin Mills is catered to those seniors who are active and don’t need much attention. I would not recommend Sunrise to anyone who is not fully mobile or does not require full 24 hour care.

very nice facility, issue with the Medicaid placement is concerning.

Adequate but common areas are somewhat dated and furniture appears to be used/old (but not antique). Has more of an institutional feel.

I’m not really sure why this didn’t rank as high with me but I guess because it is kinda more corporate than homey feeling. The staff was nice enough, but feel like there was not that warm fuzzy feeling. It is beautiful, light and airy. Great screened in porches,nice rooms, smelled good. Just not my fav.

Mom felt that the rooms were quite small.

Small apartments. Building doesn't appear clean. Needs painting of doors and hallways and straightening of the activities room in SNF - the book/game shelves were a mess. SNF small but expensive.

This was the first senior living facility my brothers and I checked out. We only looked at one other. The sales staff were very convincing and I was very impressed with theor promises. The place is beautiful and clean, however, the memory care unit did not live up to their sales pitch and/or care plan. My dad had mid level dementia and my family had been doing 24/7 shifts at his apartment until he started falling. We feared he would hurt himself so we decided he needed professional care. We impressed on sale person the problem with dad's falling. He could out walk/run anyone, however, he began falling due to walking before he had his balance. This was discussed and we were assured they could handle this. The first week seemed fine. Until we found that he had been found in other resident 's bed sleeping. There were many times when we visited that the staff were very happy. not sure where he was. That situation was never resolved. Bottom line--my dad had no clue which room was his. We saw that clearly . The fact is the place is under staffed with people that try their best to keep things moving. I believe my family visited more frequently than most and therefore witnessed too many negative incidents with my dad and other residents. My father eventually took a fall and broke his hip. He hadn't been there a month. That was the beginning of the torturous end fir the old guy. I believe he was initially under assessed as to the care he needed. He was ambulatory when he arrived at Sunrise. On no daily meds other than medication for his dementia. Very healthy 98 year old man who up until a year prior lived in his own apartment and took care of himself. He lasted 3 months to the day from date of his arrival at Sunrise. We were very disappointed with the lack of communication between the administrators, who promised upgraded care after broken hip episode, and the actual care givers. The staff that had the job of taking care of dad were not advised of an injury that happened during hospital rehab stay and therefore hurt him everytime they had to move him, such as at bath time, bedtime.etc. he did return from rehab totally wheelchair bound and a broken shoulder. I think their sales staff should be more realistic with their sales pitches, as I am sure there are many other residents family members that truly believe what is promised. I think maybe we as a very tight knit family visited too often and saw too much. I really wish we had kept dad at his home and continued to care for him ourselves.

Had my father there some time ago, but had to find a new place due to yearly increases in cost. They are expensive. The food quality was up and down. The staff is overall friendly and they do provide daily activities. They were sometimes late or unresponsive when he needed help (call button). I think they were short handed most of the time he was there. The biggest issue was management's unwillingness to ever admit fault when there was an issue with care. They would never look into it , only give excuses why it wasn't their fault or why there was no problem. I got tired of it and put him elsewhere.

The assistant Living area is nice. The Memory Care you can tell was an “afterthought “. It’s located on the 3rd floor with only a patio for outside seating.

While I enjoyed the tour with the Executive Director, I was not as impressed with this Sunrise facility as others in the area. The rooms were small and needed freshing, as were most of the facilities. The staff seemed pleasant and I enjoyed meeting with them. I feel like the facilities need a bit of work.

This is a beautiful facility with everything you could ever want. However, the rooms are very small and the long hallways with small hotel-like rooms made it feel more like a hospital than a residential community. Would be great for someone needing a lot of care and attention, but not needing any living space.

Toured on 4/11/2018. Very busy area of Richmond Hill. Lots of traffic, not easy to get into. Could be more parking. The facility was lovely, clean. Friendly staff. Residents looked happy. New nursing staff.

I find the staff caring and ready to help but they are too loud and not respectful to the residents.They don't use Please,Thank you or I am sorry.

They don't take people who are brittle type 1 diabetic. Had to take them off this list. I had to list stars - although they don't apply - it's a brand new place - we just can't use it.

Facility very clean, staff very nice, I had an appointment scheduled but the sales person was not there..... [name removed] filled in and did a great job but if your not available don't schedule an appointment! My problem with the facility was parking scarce, busy street, (my dad still drives only reason that is a concern), common areas were small.

Only has Assisted Living and Memory Care - not Independent Living. Was contacted by [name removed] and told 3 other Sunrise facilities in Raleigh - none had Independent Living.
