Brighton seemed like it had a lot going on which is ok but a little less homey and more of a corporate feel than some of the other communities I visited. Didn't think it was the right fit for my 93 year old mom but seemed to have a lot of activities and good level of care. Tour was adequate.

Highest priced facility. Lovely community but mother wouldn’t be out and about enjoying it.

Independent living for my parents has been very nice at the Quadrangle for the last 3 years. When my father's Alzheimer's condition necessitated a transfer to the Personal Care Unit and soon thereafter the Reminiscence Unit, however, it became clear very quickly that although the staff claim they are trained on caring for those afflicted with Alzheimer's, they are not! They were unable to manage disease-related agitation through well known behavioral methods available and instead reacted by calling the police and pushing for more psychiatric medications and a psychiatric facility! Staff reports provided to the family were inconsistent, inaccurate, and contradictory. I'm thankful my father is no longer on this unit.

Very nice people. Gut reaction was mixed. Large facility. Air had a dankness, particularly when compared to [removed]. Rooms were OK. Pricing is comparable -- but quality is not equal to others.

BG is 3 1/2 stars. It is a little run down from our perspective, and the rooms are pretty small and depressing. In the memory care unit, the rooms were depressing (brow indoor/outdoor carpet, very little ambient light, very small) The staff was very pleasant and people did look happy, but so long as mom has enough on the ball to be affected by her environment, this was not an option, despite its great location.

Unfortunately, my mother moved in over the Holidays, and Sunrise at LaCosta was way understaffed. It's understandable that employees need to take time off over the Holidays, but it's the management's responsibility to make sure that appropriate arrangements are made to cover the important work that their staff members do. Even after the holidays were long over, they were not cleaning my mother's room regularly and they kept losing her linens when doing the laundry. The suites are too dark, with only one window for 2 rooms. Although the public areas were very clean and well maintained, the décor was outdated and was filled with cutesy knick knacks that did not seem suitable for mature adults. If my mother enjoyed playing bingo all day, she would have been happy there. She did enjoy the pleasant garden area around the building and took frequent walks out there.

First Sunrise is better than some other places but still has problems that are apparently common everywhere. Call response times are good about half the time and terrible the other half. Staff are friendly and they do work hard, but the are overworked and underpaid. For example the night care manager is alone most of the time taking care of 80 residents! Nurses are rude, dense and arrogant there. There are four of them mainly and I will only speak to one or two of them because the other two are complete idiots. Med techs I have found to be very nice and responsive to the best of their ability. Facilities manager is very good. Activites are very good. Overall atmosphere is good. Food is just okay and sometimes terrible. There are probably better places but you dont know until you move in.

For my mom I do like just 1 building that has it all in one place. Best option so far for price. I rate "fair/ok" to "good". Seemed more assisted living than independent to me; older residents, it seemed. Clean, ok. Room hallways were not bright or very lit. It was a somber place- the hallways. Older facility but as well maintained as can be expected; better price point for us. Definitely nice, competent, welcoming staff. It could be among our better options yet.

Apartment is best . Attractive community, but overwhelming number of residents, activities and functions. Medical management also problematic. No convenient nearby doctor. Decisions by Medical activities by non medical clerical.

A very beautiful facility, but out of our budget

Large facility with both assisted living and memory care. The large main area and entrance was abundant with residents sitting around awaiting dinner time. Not much interaction amongst residents. Dining room was small for the number of residents. Furniture not very stylish. I met the assisted living coordinator, genuine and kind and very much an advocate for residents. Her staff were friendly, attentive and kind. I noted many staff have many years of service at this facility and that says a lot. Resident apartments were nice. Common areas each floor were nice.

The independent living situation looks nice but the memory care unit was very small and felt cramped and inactive.

The place seemed ideal when we moved my sister in but after a Managment change, the food, the maintenance, especially the common area cleanliness went in the toilet . Currently Looking for somewhere else better to move her to. It took them almost two months to fix her patio roof that separated and was badly sagging- during that time she had NO ACCESS . It was dangerous

The senior advisor helped us find bellmont I like the idea of in between care for assisted living and a dementia unit. The place is clean and pretty the apartments are very nice and they have a pool (although its use ended up not being quite what was described) getting a hold of people by phone is very difficult but when you do they do try to help and are nice I think email in person and appointments are better .I'm not sure if the front desk are volunteers but it would be nice to have them trained and given information I think they are working on it . They do answer the phone right away during day hours. (Evening hours and night time I heard they are working on a new phone system that the nursing department can answer easier and convienent for them )

Place is small"esh". Whole place seems a bit "close" / crowded. People friendly, Molly (golden) on staff. 99 apartments. Very few men (8 currently). Tour was nice. Need at least a one bedroom. Seems expensive at over $5,000 / month for a 1 bedroom. No Independent living here only AS and memory.

I've lived here for about 4 years now and considering Baltimore's history I have 0 complaints. I have great access to stores and public transportation. Those are my two main issues that's on my gotta have list for moving.

[Name removed] is very friendly, but the front desk person was coughing a lot and it concerned us that someone sick was at work. The rooms are much smaller than where my mother in law currently resides and the layout of the available studio did not seem conducive for a wheelchair or someone who has difficulty maneuvering a walker. The common spaces were homey feeling and we liked the fact that they have a community cat and dog. We also liked that they had an iPad ordering system in the dining room that informs the person taking the order of food allergies and dietary restrictions for each resident. It’s a relatively small AL community which seems good in a lot of ways. The place seemed a bit disheveled - random wheelchair parts sitting in common areas, a box of kitty litter sitting in the front hallway, etc.

We have been most disappointed in the dining room staff. They do not explain what is on the menu to the residents and just bring them what ever food they had the day before. Also, the staff does not encourage the residents to participate in activities. Most residents are not aware of the activities because of poor communication. The nursing staff are not available 90% of the time. You can never reach them when you have a question or concern.

Overall, environment is warm and friendly but really lacks decision making abilities to address individual needs such as: 1. Foodservice- lack of flexibility and understanding for individual dietary needs -diabetes and independent residents 2. Medical staff- lack of full time 24/7 RN and doctor on staff for emergencies and /or addressing care needs to make a proper assessment of resident prior to sending to hospital. 4.Caregivers are too systematic and task oriented versus understanding the need of the client and can't make decisions. 3. Dementia client has no access to memory care floor and when asked to address it, get round around and lack of service from medical staff. 4. USA doesn't understand Canada needs more autonomy. Demograhics are changing. No flexibility. 6. Food is American food. Can't alter menu to address diversity requirements or diabetic needs. 7. Lack of activities, social outings and overall needs for clients that are more independent. 8. Need more flexibility for clients that can /want to cook in their rooms.

Overall I like it. Assisted living is extremely expensive, and I couldn’t afford anything else. Having said that, my major complaint is that is a royal pain to talk to someone directly. If you want the nurse, or director, you always have to go through the front desk. Trying to find anyone email, is another problem., is super hard. Also, if you go before or after hrs, you wait forever before anyone comes to the door, even though there should be someone available to attend this. Would love if they had LPN instead of nurses assistants. My mother is not crazy about the food. It seems that’s a major complaint from the residents. Either tasteless or sometimes they can’t repeat, because there is no more.
