Sunrise Senior Living

Sunrise was okay. I think my loved one needs more attention than assisted living can provide. They make a good effort, though. It can take a minute for the people to get there when they are called. The food is okay, it's better than hospital food, but my loved one didn't care for it. We did see some ants in the dining room, but they called the exterminator out the next day. I think for a rating they would fall between a three and a four.

It's Very expensive. You don't get much bang for your buck. Other than that, its very clean. They have very friendly staff. The Food is good. They are very accommodating. Everything has been going pretty good.

Staff I have seen are patient, remembering each individual's special needs and their name. Staff also sensitive to the individual's feelings, physical problems and memory problems. Throughout they keep their sense of humor. The record keeping is maintained by the caregivers. Problems are communicated to the oncoming shift. Staff responsible for light housekeeping and residents' personal hygiene and diet. Work orders are put through to maintenance personnel for the physical environment. Activities are planned for the residents to keep them active and social. Overall, I feel my loved one is safe at Bedford Court and his needs are being taken care of.

This is one of the four places that we considered when we were looking at options. This wasn't the best fit for us. They didn't have a courtyard really, or a good outdoor area. It would be nice for an animal lover, because they allow pets there, and there were a lot of animals in the lobby. That wouldn't have worked well for my loved one who is not so much into animals.

In terms of the cleanliness of the community and the friendliness of the staff I think they do an excellent job at Brighton Gardens of Middletown. However, there are a few ways I think they could improve. I feel they are a little lacking in terms of activities. My biggest issue with them is their billing system, it could be much more straightforward.

We have been at Sunrise for two months and everyone is friendly and helpful. I do have to occasionally ask for something twice (such as tissue or a snack)since they are busy and sometimes forget. They have lots of activities but my dad will not participate in anything. The facility is very homelike and food is good. My dad is a picky eater and he can always find something he likes.

I have the POA for the resident at Sunrise of Lincoln Park. However, I live in Florida. I hired a surrogate to check in on the resident 2 - 3 times per week and he tells me she is getting very good care. Also, the staff calls me whenever there is a problem, so I am kept current on my friend's condition. the facility is very homey and the caregivers are extremely good. There has recently been a staff change so I don't know if anything regarding the quality of care will change.

My Mother has lived here in Independent Living for over 3 years. There have been 3 Directors and a considerable amount of time without a full time Director. There are some very dedicated employees there who care but I don't think the Management is connected to what makes a difference to residents. New wallpaper and a bistro are not high on residents lists. The furniture is nice, but it is obvious the decorator isn't connected to what Seniors need. The chairs are large and overstuffed and many residents do no want to sit on them for fear they can't get up. The food preparation is generally poor and does not get good reviews by residents. This facility needs a pro-active Director who will get to the know the residents and make sure the dedicated caregivers are appreciated. There also need to be quality control of the food served to ensure that preparation and presentation are improved. Examples: onion soup should have onions, banana pudding should have bananas, chicken & dumplings should have dumplings, food should be tasted to ensure preparation and taste are as should be expected. The activities room at this facility is small and inadequate to have a larger range of activities for more diversity. This location is an anomaly in the Sunrise facilities in that the Independent Living side allows for assistance in activities of daily living (ADLs) which allows residents to remain in an apartment and receive help versus transitioning to Assisted Living too soon. This is the main advantage of this facility.

I was drawn in by the beauty of the community at Sunrise. It is well-maintained, and the people are very friendly. We chose a semi-private room because we couldn't afford the more expensive private room (Medicare did NOT cover any of the expense for us). When we arrived with Mom in her wheelchair, we discovered that only the more expensive private room was available. We were assured Mom would be moved to a semi-private room as soon as one because available. This never happened. Upon move-out four months later, this resulted in a charge for the room of $4000 more than what we had originally requested. I disputed that amount and, though we had paid the total undisputed amount of more than $21,000, we were threatened with a lawsuit if we didn't pay at least $3000 of the disputed balance. Mom's health declined steadily while at Sunrise. In December she was sent out to a hospice facility, and family came from out of town to say their goodbyes. Many tears. However, in the week she was at the hospice facility, she began reviving, and they discharged her back to Sunrise. We hired a full-time caregiver to help provide some of the care she was obviously not getting. On New Year's eve, we moved Mom and Dad with the caregiver back to their family home in north Georgia. That was 2 1/2 months ago, and Mom is doing better than she has in months. It seems like a miracle, but I believe it's just a difference in level of care. This is not an indictment against Sunrise, all of their workers are so very friendly and loving, but one-on-one care simply can't be beat! Oh, and I should mention that we now pay much less for better care.

They do a good job here. It's taking a bit for my loved one to settle in, but I think they are doing their best. It's a nice looking, clean place, and the staff all seem hard-working and friendly.

Provision Living is a very nice, pretty and newer community in Webster Groves. I have a relative living there now. Overall, we are happy that we selected them. Everyone seems happy there and the management/staff are very nice. My only concerns involve the CNA staff to patient ratio (short on staff) and a lack of clear leadership over the Nursing and the Food Services areas. The reality of the services do not quite live up to the marketing materials. Both of these areas could use some improvements and, if that happens, I will move my rating up to the 4-5 range.

Very clean place, the staff that are the actual care takers are great but we have had some issues with the management. I feel like there are a lot of hidden charges thrown in, which was very hard to budget for and we weren't made aware of. When we spoke to them before we moved in, we felt like the issue about her having to pay out of pocket was kind of avoided. My mother probably qualifies for veteran benefits, but only on research and prodding, did I find out it was that OR social security rather than on top of the veteran benefits. Overall, it seems like a good facility of it's type. The staff is always helpful and they take good care of my mother.

We really like the caregivers- they are very kind. I think they could improve on the communication between their staff, specifically the nursing staff. Doctor's orders weren't adhered to and no one seems to know what is going on. In that case, we, the family need to intervene so it is difficult to feel like you are getting what you pay for when you are doing one of the services.

The facility at Sunrise of San Mateo is exceptionally clean, and the sales woman we worked with was great. I would like to see more English fluent care givers interacting with the residents. I also think they should have more variety on the activities. They seem to be a bit understaffed and possibly under-trained as the care givers have to do everything, including the activities and preparing the meals (the food could be improved), which I know other places have dedicated personnel to handle.

We transferred my mom here from another assisted living facility after she was hospitalized and former facility could not take her back due to an increase in care need. She seems much happier here than at the other facility. The food is great and the staff is wonderful and attentive. The decor is a charming victorian style. The cost is approximately $1000 more but worth it for the care and her happiness. One major complaint is that the visitor's parking is terrible! There is so much open land in the front of the building that could be converted to parking. There are only 8 parking spots up front and it's definitely a major inconvenience.

We looked at several places; this one was much closer to home than the others; it is convenient. They take good care of her medications. The people who care for her are very nice. They do work well with me on concerns about her care. They go out on outings; they take them to different restaurants, the arboretum, fishing at a local lake. My wife is in the memory unit, so limited in what she can do. They have therapists come in and work with her. They have people come in and play music, do singalong with music from their era. They have exercise sessions in the afternoon. Sometimes they do little baking projects. The only thing I really don't like about it is the food. Personally I think it could be better tasting. It's a pleasant place, and the people are very nice.

My mom was only able to stay at Sunrise at Hillcrest for two weeks, but in those two weeks she was happy and enjoying it. The people were nice and caring, the facility was also nice and clean. A plus to me, is that they have enough add on services that we were able to get my mom in the assisted living part vs memory care. You don't find that too many places in particular health situations.

One area that is a concern is that they allow smoking in the rooms. Becky and Gordon are amazing. Lori and Dean --- Lori is good but Dean is not good at all. He has been very sarcastic with my mom. I almost had to take her to the emergency room because of her wheezing. And he is supposed get a filter for my moms room but he acts like he doesn't believe that the smoke is really bothering her. She has take a very long way around the halls in order to avoid heavy smokers where she walks by and smoke is nearby. She has a 90 day commitment and if the filter doesn't come in and/or if it doesn't help, we will be moving her out of there. Dean doesn't seem to be in a hurry and won't give me a date as to when the filter will be in so I even thinking about buying one myself but i shouldn't have to do that. There are people walking around with oxygen tanks. However, I would give Becky and Gordon a 5 plus rating. Gordon is going to place a cover on the bottom of my moms door where there is gap to help avoid some of the smoke getting in.

Sunrise is a lovely place which is warm, nicely decorated, and well run. It does not have an exercise room, but there are morning exercise sessions. My mother is there now on a respite stay and so far we are happy with the environment and care she is getting.

Still getting settled in well. Had a few struggles when first moved in but seems to be going better. Many of the care staff speak quietly and with an accent, makes it harder for a hearing impaired person to hear them. Food needs to be seasoned better but nice variety. Beautiful setting - like a country home. Lots of gathering space for residents to intereact with others.
