Sunrise Senior Living

They seem to be very caring toward my Mom which is the most important thing. Their administrative staff seems to be all new and things seem discombobulated. I don't know who is in charge. Roles are not clear cut and it is very confusing.

So far so good at Sunrise of Des Peres. I have a few minor complaints. My mother is incontinent and the staff had some issues keeping up with it. It was her bed mainly and her wash. I told them to change the sheets as often as they need to. Overall we like it there. We think it's a good place for mom. All in all we are happy. It is a good location. The staff is a 5 + on friendliness. The quality is good for the price. They do switch staff and some are really good and some are not so good. They offer a lot of good activities. We do think mom has some hearing issues and doesn't socialize as much because of that. Next week we plan on taking her in to possibly get some hearing aids. Overall I would say for the most part things are going really well here.

I noticed that their care givers not only care for the residences they also assist them in the dining rom. They do more than 1 task, I feel the dining room should have their own staff. I asked why and they said some people need extra care. The staff is otherwise great!

The Care Manager supervisor took care of a problem with a person that was mean to my mom. Also, the food isn't great. But, it is a pretty nice place.

At Sunrise of Cinco Ranch the cost went up astronomically than what I thought it would be. I was very specific about what the needs of my parents were upfront. I would have liked to record the conversation we had before they got here. It was one of the more expensive going in the door and then they jump the cost 40% once my parents are in. I just don't think that is right. I don't think we will be staying there long unless something is worked out. The facility is lovely. The people are really nice. But because of the price jump I would not recommend it. Also they charge by the day for certain services and then they are not doing those services. I know it for a fact. The staff are supposed to help get them dressed but I am getting them dressed. My mom and dad are very happy but of course they are when they are getting rooms service and living like it's the Ritz Carlton. I realize you pay for luxury but they were not upfront with us at all.

Based on a relatively brief initial experience with The Jefferson, I regard it as a very good urban-located senior living facility. My initial overall rating is good but I see the potential over time for a rating somewhat higher than that. The calibre of the personnel is outstanding, the location near urban amenities and public transportation is superb, and the activities appear to be varied and interesting. The food selections are somewhat limited but there is variety on the menu and the quality of the food is generally very good. The onsite recreational facilities are decent but limited to a small swimming pool, a whirlpool bath, and a small exercise room. Overall, so far The Jefferson is a senior living choice with which I am quite happy.

Very nice people and caring people. Food could be improved. Currently appears to have a large staff turn over.

Everything was fantastic. Maybe a little more action in letting the patient know what the expenses are and how they are determined. They are evaluated and are put on a scale and I would just like to know the parameters on how they evaluate the resident. As far as being clean and friendly, I think all of that is top of the line, I just want to know exactly how the fees are determined.

Only been there 1 week. So far so good.

I toured here as I was looking for options. I didn't choose this location, because the residents seemed to be sitting around in wheelchairs, and not really socializing. It was not a very active and social environment.

Seemed like a beautiful place. Nice large…in fact the Plainview facility is one of the smallest in the Sunrise chain. Depending on the level care needed, it can be very expensive. [removed] Charges for care is extra. My dad has Alzheimers and needs a high level of care. [removed] Since it's an enhanced-care facility, your loved one can "age-in-place." They will accept residents that normal assisted living places do not. The downside is that the average resident seemed very old and not very active. So if you're looking for a residence for an older relative that still has some spunk, this might not be the place.

It's a nice place, but I just don't think this is going to work for my loved one. I am getting so many mixed messages from the courtyard about the bill. Everyone tells me something different. They don't have bingo until like 6:45 in the evening, I'm not sure what days but it's always at the same time, and that is very close to when my loved one goes to sleep. It would be helpful if they took credit cards as a form of payment.

If you can adapt your schedule to theirs you will fit in much better than if you hope they can fit to yours. Although my mother was continent and able to go to the bathroom on her own, they keep waking her up early in the morning between 5 & 6 to go to the bathroom, making it hard for her to fall asleep and wakeup at her normal 8-8:30 timeframe. They also come between 7 and 8pm to put the residents to bed but my mother routinely goes to bed between 10 and 11. Perhaps it is because there are more staff available earlier in the evening. They determined that my mother could not self medicate the day after she moved in when she had no clock in her room yet and based on 1 missed dosage and the fact that she could not stand, take her medicine and hold a glass of water. Now her medication schedule is changed and she is terribly frustrated. Dinner meds are given at 5:30 and bedtime meds are given sometimes at 7 so she has had to refuse them for the meds that are 3x a day as the dosage will be too high for her if taken together. They are getting better at this but we've had to hold our ground. The cost is based on # of medications, not # of passes per day so they bumped the basic cost up. The care level evaluation was given when she was in the hospital and determined to be at the highest level. Yet she can feed herself and is continent. She is a bit weak and has some difficultly getting in and out of bed or a chair, although slow she can do it herself. Originally she called for help to get out of bed to go to the bathroom but since they rarely come in time, she quickly decided to do that on her own. If her cane or walker is inadvertently not nearby then she crawls to the bathroom to make sure she does not fall. There are few residents that don't have significant cognitive impairment so if your elder's issues are just physically related, they may have trouble finding an appropriate social network. Without the social network, they may become lonely or depressed there.

I did see a decline with the food over time. I don't think I had the same bill twice, look out for rising costs as care needs go up. It looks warm and inviting, and the tour is really nice. They said you would always have the same caregiver, and that didn't seem to be the case.

My mother was only there at Sunrise Assisted Living for a little while. She did have a fall while she was there, and they did respond quickly to it. They did x-rays and did all the right things after it happened, though I have wondered if they were keeping a close enough eye on her in the first place.

My Father has been living here for over a year, and upon entering the facility, has had great care, and caring management. During the past few months, with many management changes, it just seems that management does not really care and is not involved at all with the residents. If it was not for the caregivers, my ratings would be lower. Somebody also needs to tell the kitchen how to cook food for the New York region vs. taking a recipe from the South and transplanting it. How many people in New York like collard greens, black-eyed peas, and ham hock soup?

Everybody at Sunrise at Sterling Canyon is very friendly. There are a few things they could improve on though. They ask you to fill out all this paperwork, then they make you feel as if they haven't read it. The care services are not quite as good unless you are really staying on top of them. They seem to have a certain way of doing things and expect you to fit in to that rather than being flexible to fit the needs of the resident and the families. For the amount of money that can be a little frustrating. It is a great location and again friendly staff, but certainly some room for improvement.

I am satisfied overall. I think the activities could be tweaked a little bit more, I don't think they reach everyone's level. Seniors tend to get cliquey. They are very expensive, and I don't think for the space that you get that it's worth the price. The food is okay, but it's not home cooking.

We just moved my mom here a few weeks ago. We had a few things that weren't going very well at first but staff was very easy to talk to about it and the issues have been addressed. Very happy so far.

Overall we like it. The cleanliness of the facility is excellent. It's always clean. Everyone is very friendly and nice. It's just that they made a few medication mistakes and a few communication mistakes with my parents and us. I think they have been going through transitions. As soon as we address any issues they do take care of them. The Gayton Terrace is a pretty good community. They have a lot of activities.
