I like it because it's very close to me. I could speak to my loved one on the phone. They had a system of visiting, but when the pandemic was very high, we had to talk through a window downstairs. These are really hard times, it's difficult to judge what would be happening with no pandemic. It's a beautiful community, with several buildings with grassy areas and flowers during the warmer weather. I haven't been able to go inside the entire time, except for a limited visiting area where we could sit 6 feet apart. It looked like the front staircase was very prettily decorated during the Christmas holiday. I've been happy with my interaction with the staff overall. Most of the time they returned phone calls as soon as possible. They were very, very pleasant. My only issue has been with the pharmaceutical company they use - I ended up having to spend a lot of money because they did not take our insurance and Sunrise would not allow us to get our meds elsewhere. One thing I loved was very week the executive director would send out an email to the families to let them know how the week was going, including the current Covid situation. They were very transparent about any Covid occurrences. If I had wanted to go up to my loved one's room, they offered to allow us to do so after a Covoid test, but we opted not to do that.

I would recommend this community to others. The food could be better. Communication could be better between the staff and myself. The community is clean and neat and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

I would tell others that is a very nice loving community. It is clean and the staff take care of residents well. The best part is the great staff. I would like to see the price be a little less compared to right now.

Our loved ones are not that happy with the meals they serve, and with the covid restrictions our loved ones have not been able to participate in the activities. We would recommend this community but there needs to be a huge improvement with the communication between the residents families. That is the biggest problem we are having.

This experience is en light of covid. The lady who initially took us on the tour was so sweet and lovely and super helpful. The exterior of the building when it comes to how clean it is, is fine but our loved ones room could use a little more upkeep but that is probably due to covid once again. We do not have enough interaction with the care takers to really see what is going on, but we do know they have nurses and doctors on the staff on site. Our loved one loves the place, she is comfortable and happy there. She says the food is fine and there has not been a thing on her plate yet that she hasn't eaten. We were very impressed.

Our contact was [name removed]. After meeting [name removed] at the desk in the lobby she assisted us in logging into the Kiosk and taking our temp for the COVID procedures. [name removed] then took us to her office for our meeting. The lobby area was clean and spacious - part of this area is currently being used for families to meet their family members (2 at a time) and sit and chat. Since we are mainly interested in the memory care for Mom that is what [name removed] concentrated on during our meeting. Currently the Memory Care area is full since empty rooms need to be available to quarantine if necessary for COVID. This facility does not utilize motion sensors or bed alarms. There are two doctors on staff (female/male) also a nurse practitioner - the family is involved in the visits the Dr has with your family member. A nurse is on staff and is responsible for distributing the medication. This facility utilizes Omni CVS pharmacy for each resident's medications. Hospice is available and this facility also has an internal Home Health program. For activities a Life Enlightenment Manager is employed to setup activities. Mindfulness music, scenic drives and larger events were part of their Pre COVID activities. Laundry and house cleaning is included with rates. Additional costs to daily rates would include additional assistance when dressing, showering, grooming and incontinence (3 levels of fees here pending need). We walked through the facility which was clean and odor free, we viewed 3 different type of rooms available, seen residents in their rooms, walking about and enjoying companionship in their sitting/tv area. Residents looked clean and happy, workers were polite. The security here is good with a key pad setup for all doors and the courtyard is closed off from public access/viewing. The courtyard can be used for family gatherings/ decorating etc. and a room is also available upon notice for family gatherings.

The community is clean but the basement has some clutter in there which should be cleaned out. The staff members are so kind, i am grateful that they are there I could not ask for better. The food is repetitious which could be caused due the dining room being closed, they also offer house keeping. I do have a large one bedroom, and they have a beautiful outside area and they have underground parking. I am very happy here and wouldn't go anywhere else.

The communication was good for the challenging times during covid. The staff was very friendly and compassionate and they tried to the very best they could for our loved ones. I would recommend this community to others. There was a monthly newsletter that was sent to us.

The dining rooms is opening back up but for awhile all the meals were being delivered to their rooms. The community itself is clean, but our loved ones room occasionally could use some more consistent cleaning. The staff members are excellent, there are so responsive and attentive. We think the care services are very good, we do think sometimes they are stretched thin under the current circumstances. Our parents loved the food at the community. The have a beauty salon, which within the past month has opened back up and our mother loves getting her hair done. Most of the other activities are still shut down. We do think the value is there for the money, when we do have concerns they are answered immediately. The executive director has told us that before covid it was like a circus here, there were so many things going on all the time, and they are really hoping to get back to that soon.

In general, everybody was very friendly and helpful, except for one wellness nurse who needs to take some lessons in compassion and interactions with humans. There were some blips in continuity -one staff member told me one thing about handling of a lab, and the wellness nurse got snippy with me and told me otherwise. She also treated me with insensitivity when I came into the facility after my loved one passed away. In looking for care for my loved one, I was led to believe it was different than what it actually was. Whether nursing home vs assisted living vs memory care, I kind of envisioned it to be a lot more hands on than it was, especially after the conversation I had with Sunrise about the level of care my loved one required. I did understand that unless someone was there 24/7, certain things couldn't be avoided, and there's only a certain number of staff in ratio to the residents. But I was led to believe it would be more individualized attention, especially in memory care with the extra surveillance needed. I believe my loved one had more falls due to lack of individualized attention. My loved one would wake in the night, and it was almost like they had never dealt with such a thing before. I was caught off guard by some of the challenges they were running into. I would have thought these would be a daily experience for them caring for residents with dementia. On the more positive side, the food looked appetizing and well presented, smelled good, and my loved one happily ate it. She also liked to participate in activities like cooking/baking, and singing.

We chose Sunrise of San Mateo because the person they had at the time answered all of our questions and he walked around himself with the ipad and gave us a tour. She ended up with a corner room that was actually 2 rooms so it was more like an apartment. This community was also very close to our house so she felt more comfortable and we would have been able to visit often if the pandemic hadn't hit. They are a pet friendly community which nice. They did not offer as much as mobility as far as somebody taking her to appointments and things like that so that could have been a little better. She loved the meals that were provided here and she thought the quality was good. In the end she just wanted more privacy so she moved back home. I would definitely recommend to others who are looking.

The communication between the staff and our family was good they kept us informed. Some of the staff was very personable and some were more business-like. If your loved one is vaccinated Then I would recommend this community to others.

It's a beautiful place, kept up beautifully. It was really hard to see any of the amenities. Everything was closed up due to Covid. The staff is great. Whenever you called they gave you an answer, and they always called you back. They were always polite when we spoke to them. I would definitely recommend Sunrise of Wilmington.

I do recommend this community. They are a lot better than what I have seen. Their care taking is better than what we have been used to. The main staff is good, and daily not so good with communication. The higher ups communication is good. They are currently doing bingo, and movie watching during the time of the pandemic for activities.

Through this pandemic, I feel they have done a good job holding things together. The communication between the staff and the families is very good. They keep us updated with any Covid information and info about our loved one. I would recommend this community to others

Our loved one enjoyed the meals at the community, but with the covid restrictions it was hard to really get a good feel of the community. However when we were able to visit the community they really made that pleasant and they were always able to connect us to our loved one.

Great virtual tour from [name removed], who answered all my questions. Sunrise has an opening now, so is a possibility for dad.

We both liked this place. Feels very welcoming an homey. They seem to cater over and above for their clients. Only drawback, apartment is very small.

It's difficult during Covid, as we're not able to visit. But they do allow you to move your loved one in, and also go in when they're returning from the hospital. Very shortly they'll be allowing in-person visits if you're vaccinated. Housekeeping goes in 2-3 times a day to empty trash, and they come in once a week and clean really good. They're improving their dining room, which has been open through Covid times, with two seating times per meal to accommodate social distancing. Our loved one raves about the food, it is excellent. The staff is always very nice. One issue we've had is our loved one had hoped to have a quicker response time when pressing the call button. But we do take into consideration the extra duties and care being provided by the staff due to Covid protocol. Overall it's a good value and a good place. We've been very happy. It was difficult for our loved one to acclimate, but they've done their best to help her get settled, and they're taking good care of her. We don't feel like we have to worry knowing she's well cared for.
