Sunrise Senior Living

We never had a problem with the care, it seemed like everything our loved one needed was provided without issues. We looked at several other communities before choosing Sunrise, and we liked how it was closer to home since we were already familiar with the neighborhood. However they could use a little more guest parking.

They made the move and transition process very easy. This community is a good value for the money. The staff here really just seem to care about the other residents and my loved one. They have activities like people coming in to play music, bingo, dancing, meditation and a lot of different things to keep the residents busy and occupied at the community.

I'm really happy with Sunrise. One of the things I like most about it is the staff have been there for a very long time. So once you get to know everyone, you work with the same people, which is much better than other places we've experienced. They have really low turnover, and I love that. The Executive Director is very available and has sat down and talked with me several times. She is very caring and nice. The Resident Care Manager for my dad's area has also been very kind and helpful to me. They say they have a geriatric doctor, and I'm not as pleased with that. It has been very difficult to get ahold of that doctor. But I think overall what I like best about Sunrise is they do seem like a caring place. My dad has some people that he seems to really like there, and they seem to be treating him very kindly.

Everyone was very nice and friendly that we dealt with. The billing has not been correct. They will accept our checks; however, the community is showing there is still money being owed. However, they say that this will be corrected. The administration has made themselves available when I have needed to talk to them about concerns or questions. There has been times that my loved one hasn't been cared for properly. The community accepted my loved one's pet initially. The location is close to family. The community seems clean. There have been times my loved one's rooms hasn't been cleaned, when I have visited them. There have been times I have had to let the caregivers know that my loved one's laundry needed to be done. They were quick to make this happen. The staff encourages resident's engagement in activities.

The residents are well taken care of, I would have no issues recommending to a friend or family member.

We've had a mostly positive experience in all aspects. I'm just not sure that the care is exactly what we need right now. I would like to see the care staff pay closer attention to what the resident tells them they need. And if the resident offers them suggestions about what they personally need, that the staff listens to them. I would also like to see the staff not rush to do things quickly and instead do what is best for the residents. However, all of the staff have been very friendly. And I really do think they try to be accommodating when I'm there. I'm just not sure that they are as accommodating when I'm not there. That applies to just some of them - certainly not everyone.

Great but wanted somewhere closer. Family wanted a little more activities for my loved one than what they offered.

When I first got to this community, I feel like the staff are warming up to me and kind and caring but I feel like it took a while. I feel like sometimes they are sitting around a lot but this is a hard job. I know that they are learning more about my mom and getting to know her and I appreciate this and them working with her personality. The food is really good and there is a good variety of foods for the residents to pick from. This community is open and bright. The one struggle is getting paperwork done on time to get important things taken care of.

My mother in law had been at another facility that we did not care for at all, it seemed impersonal. When we went to Sunrise it felt the opposite, it was very warm and friendly. I think they do a very good job in coordinating staff and their efforts in dealing with families. My mother in law went into hospice quickly and they were very caring and went above and beyond to accommodate us. I had one negative experience with the front desk because we did not call ahead to let them know that we were coming. But once brought to their attention, they took care of it right away and it was really good to know that we were not ignored. I would recommend them to others who are looking.

Really good community.

This is a good place for your loved one. I would recommend this community for you or your loved one. They have activities like musical entertainment, physical therapy and more for the residents to do to stay busy. The staff are great and professional I have never had any issues with them at all when it comes to my loved one.

We went with Sunrise of Leawood because they were able to take care of my husband and his special needs. It is a much nicer facility and it does not look or feel institutional, it looks more homey. For the most part, everybody has been very nice and helpful. As far as activities go, they had to shut down things due to covid, but I am hoping those start back up and they can encourage him to participate. He is very happy, his room is bright and open and he really enjoys the food. I am a little bit concerned about them being understaffed, but I know that is a problem everywhere. The consistency of care has been an issue and things are not getting done at the level I think that they can do. I think these things are getting worked out and they are aware of these issues. Everything is moving forward and they are learning what he needs.

The staff there, especially a few individuals have just been incredible. It is tough having your loved one in this type of situation, but they have been amazing and really have looked after our loved one. They have really helped out when we needed them most and we would most definitely recommend this community to other families.

We toured this community and thought it was very nice. I did feel that the interior needed some updating. I would still recommend others to tour this community.

Our tour at Sunrise of Alexandria was very good. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They explained everything and were on top of their game. They were just a little too far away, and a little out of our price range.

What really stood out to our family was the activities coordinator. She is so vibrant, engaged and full of life which is so hard to find these days. We would recommend this community to most families.

I think when you first start looking for an assisted living environment, you have expectations about how much care they will provide. For me, some of the gotcha's or surprises were around things like making sure my loved one gets to doctor appointments. They really prefer not to be involved in that at all, which turned out to be quite a surprise to me. With Covid in general and everybody being short-staffed, there have been some minor lapses in care, Foley catheter issues, etc. Sometimes it just feels like they lose focus a little bit. But I imagine it's difficult not having the staffing level that anybody needs right now.

Sunrise is a very good facility, it has such a cheerful environment to it. It is beautifully decorated, they have nice terraces and a beautiful garden. The rooms the residents have are very spacious, well appointment and comfortable. The upstairs was a wonderful area and such a great experience, but the facilitator downstairs and with the memory care unit was lack some serious communication. That was not a good experience. Other than that we would highly recommend this place.

When I first walking in, it felt very homey and comfortable and I knew this was going to be the best fit for her. The staff is very good and the care has been great. Since my mother got here, she was promised a shower. They had us order a special wheelchair and she still has not gotten it yet. She really loves bingo, I am trying to get her to participate in some of the other activities provided. I would highly recommend them to others.
