Sunrise Senior Living

Depends on measure of health care, guess I would say yes I would recommend to others. I picked this community because of a health care reason.

The residents are so friendly and kind to other residents. There is a good sense of community. Food is not so good, there is very little variety. They could dust better, pick up feces in the hallway immediately took one hour one day and keep the cat room cleaner and smelling better.

We like the room and the location. The staff is super! Sure there's things but for the price it's the best !!

I just think they've been maybe a little short staffed. Sometimes it takes a while to have food prepared, laundry, or cleaning done, reminders for showers and dressing. The staff is super friendly and very thoughtful with my dad. That's the most important thing.

Beautiful facility. Very helpful and kind staff. The level of Mom's care needs pretty low right now, so we find that certain things might be overlooked by staff, e.g. laxative needs, room temperature controls, how to work the tv, etc. She has memory issues and might forget things and not say anything about it. A little more inquiry and observation would be good even though she performs all of her adls. Would really like to see two things...add the tv channel that plays Cubs games (Mom is a diehard fan) and some outings away from the facility.

The main reason we chose Sunrise of La Costa was because of the pricing and the low turnover of the staff there. The nursing staff have been great to work with.

The apartment is a really good size. The food is hit or miss. Some meals are spectacular and others are a no go. The staff that you see every day are great but the management team can be difficult to deal with. Overall it's a nice place to live and seems to be better than the others.

It was a nice place for my father to stay short-term. I would recommend to others.

Small facility, so they get to know you very well. Very secure. Staff is wonderful. Food service is not great, due to small staff. Quality is ok. My uncle did pass away this past year, but my aunt is still there. My Aunt is not in memory care yet, but will be soon. The staff has been great helping with the transition, finding her a one bedroom, and making the transition easy.

I would recommend the facility and the care staff. They do the best, that they can to me. The hard part would be if the person moving in is still social. My mom doesn't care for the residents, but she loves the care staff. They all hate the food but I hear that's very common.

Such a community requires a LOT of TLC, organization and planning. Overall I feel Sunrise makes great effort to maintain a well run community and on many points is successful. Overall the staff is very good but There have been too many staff changes and are quite short handed at times, particularly on the weekends. There have been times when mom has waited way too long for aid to help w toileting. I feel Mom is adjusting well.

The walk up to the entrance is very welcoming. There are lovely outdoor and indoor porches with many chairs and rockers in the entrance way. The Sunrise is a very cozy and inviting place with a very friendly and intimate atmosphere. The entire staff knows residents and their family members on a first name basis. The common areas are beautifully decorated, down to the smallest items. Such as residents photos sprinkled about, always fresh flowers, lovely furnished sitting areas encouraging residents to relax and socialize with other residents. Holidays are always celebrated with many decorations and special events. Very cheerful place to reside! The dining area looks like you're entering a restaurant not a cafeteria , at dinner time there are white cloth tablecloths on every table .. residents individually order their meals to a waiter who provides complete full service. They have a monthly brunch for residents and their families once a month.. They have a private dining room for small personal gatherings and if you would like to have a larger affair for birthdays or anniversaries there is an activity room you can reserve at no cost.. You are given an option to cater through Sunrise or bring in catering from your favorite venue. Oh I almost forgot The Bistro where residents can sit and read their newspaper or socialize. Also the bistro has snacks and beverages offered in the afternoons . Sunrise has very many activities daily. These activities are posted on a small billboards for residents to see as they walk about. Along with daily activities, there are special parties for holidays and special days where entertainment is brought in as well.. Also there are weekly outings . The Sunrise bus will take you to stores, restaurants, movies ,etc. Staffing is very good and friendly there is always a nurse on staff and resident technicians for daily assistance.. There are resident doctors, dentist, therapists, etc. available. There are weekly schedules for laundry, housekeeping, bathing, hairdressing and cuts. Finally, there's the apartments. They have recently been updated. They are extremely nice as well. They are roomy and wheelchair friendly .. Bathrooms have every safety feature needed.. wheelchairs fit under bathroom sink which makes residents able to use easily. Residents are able to bring their own furniture and decorate to make the rooms look like home as much as possible.. Cable TV and internet are available in the apartments as well as in the many sitting areas throughout the common areas.*I highly recommend Sunrise.. I was very very happy with my family's stay, there. I myself would live there someday if/when that time comes.

She enjoyed her time there. Activities kept her busy and overall they treated her well. She doesn't love the food but mom was a cook so.... ha.

Would definitely recommend Sunrise to others, and have received nothing but positive feedback from those who are aware of where mom is. This includes local businesses, friends, colleagues- all very comfortable and supportive of our choice to move mom to Sunrise. Our interactions with staff and management have all been positive. Mom is in the Reminiscence Care Unit and does receive additional services from a third party agency. Sunrise is my family's first direct experience with assisted living and we would not be there without the guidance of A Place for Mom. APFM was able to apply filters instantly to narrow down our options, eliminating those that were not appropriate for our situation. It could have taken us weeks to determine on our own, we are beyond grateful!

Staff was great!!Would definitely recommend it. {named removed} son had a stroke last fall which affected his swallowing so he has been on a feeding tube. The tube was removed at the beginning of July. I transferred him from the nursing home in MD to Sunrise McLean Village, mostly because it's a brand new facility and is closer to my home than the other sunrise. Everyone has been very helpful and he is loving his new environment

The staff is caring, and friendly. Any concerns or questions are, addressed in a timely manner. I definitely recommend Sunrise in Basking Ridge.

My dad loves eating there. He actually will turn down a restaurant to eat there. That being said, the options are not very healthy and if you're on a special diet, I don't think they cater to that. I've asked them to halve portions, as he's gained 30 pounds and is now an unhealthy weight, when he was normal going in. I don't think they are halving portions, despite me asking several times and them saying that they do. When I've walked in during a meal, it looks the same. All the activities seem very female oriented, knitting, sewing, painting. It'd be nice if someone would be a Buddy and encourage him to go to at least something, but doesn't happen. He forgets people's names, so is embarrassed and withdrawals socially. Value for cost- I'm not sure, as I can't really compare to other facilities. I do find it annoying that it's [fee removed] per day if I want someone to remind my dad to brush his teeth twice a day. Not that they have to brush his teeth, just pop in and say- time to brush your teeth! The community is clean. The staff are friendly. Our loved ones enjoy eating there, although ideally there would be healthier options. Although they have a fair amount of activities scheduled, a larger variety of activities that are more inclusive of all the residents would be nice.
