I hope Independence Village of Carmel is better than when it was Carmel Senior Living because their idea of taking care of someone in assistant living was sitting them down stairs all day in their wheelchair with nothing to do instead of having them in their room taking care of them. The nurses then sat in the nurses room chatting. Horrible care.

My parents had been there when they opened and they had growing pains. After leaving for one year, my mother required assisted living agian. They took our deposit, did paperwork and nurse assessment, signed contract, given a key and move my mother's property in. Then the next day a phone message from their sales saying the State of MI won't allow new residents. We are out thousands of dollars from extending skilled nursing until we could do a second mover to another facility. The State of MI found them responsible for the above. The staff still "sells" Northville only at the Novi location. They still don't have a full license to take new residents. See Indeed.com for reviews. If you notice on this site, the high reviews are anonymous. And if you check other sites for reviews, I recognize some names to be staff! We are now in small claims court to recoup an 85 year olds savings from the delay in finding a place.

My mother was here and every time I saw her she was very unhappy. When I would talk to the staff they seemed unresponsive and incompetence they didn't even know what to do. Finally I took her out. She had early dementia and they did not have memory care to help her her diet was not the diet recommended by the doctor. Her memory declined rapidly after she was there I just do not recommend this place. And when I call to check on her I could never get any information and they would not give her any messages. And the food was flavorless.

My uncle was at Oliver Woods. Everything seemed fine, except when he was at the end of his life. We were limited to two visitors at one time, one visit per day per person, and one hour each. The manager told us that these limitations were due to state covid limits. The manager’s statements were false. The covid limits had already been lifted several months prior to our experience. I can understand why they would not want a huge crowd, but their restrictions were heartbreaking. My uncle wanted people around him. A couple of people had travelled very far to be with him. The people at Oliver Woods did not seem to care. I also question the soundness of their equipment. A strap broke that was holding my uncle to a transporting device broke, causing him to fall.

Our family moved our father to Storypoint in April, 2021, and we moved him out at the end of June. It was a very traumatizing experience for my father and for the entire family. The memory care unit is very short staffed, often with just one care giver for 20 residents. It is hard to keep all residents safe when the ratio is 20 to 1. My father, who is wheel chair/ bed bound, suffered falls, etc. Many of the caregivers there pulled me aside and apologized for the short staffing and the inability to take care of the residents. I believe the independent living side is fine and perhaps assisted living, but memory care is not. Please do not send your loved one to memory care at Story point. Our Father is now at North Woods Village and it is night and day!! They are staffed, competent, kind, and extremely caring. We feel very, very blessed that we are able to get dad into this wonderful facility.

I moved my mother into Dominion [date removed] horrible experience they co mingled assisted living and memory care residence my mother contracted Covid they tell the love ones we can’t have contact with them but the people who work there brought Covid into The facility when my mother contracted Covid I wasn’t told until eight hours later my mother was sent to the hospital where she died alone with me looking through a window after her death and moved her belongings out of Dominion the apartment was filthy. I waited three months for Dominion to contact me not a card not a flower not a phone call to the funeral home for my mother after I wrote a review on Dominion‘s webpage I expected to hear from them Dominion‘s answer to my negative review was to take all reviews down no accountability from Dominion at all.

Sure, it's new and sparkly, but it's the same level of incompetence and apathy as any other, (and less expensive) facility. They sell it hard, but they don't keep any of their promises. Disorganized, with bad management. We took my mom here for a 24 day respite care stay. Thank goodness that's all we committed to! My mom's room was cleaned once in three weeks, she was supposed to get two showers a week, but she only got three showers in 24 days. Even if you check in constantly, your loved one will most likely be ignored. It took them over 30 hours to get her a Tylenol after she had a fall. Plus, they ordered meds from their pharmacy ( I was billed 185$,) when I had taken all mom's meds in with her. I'm still trying to get this worked out, but the director is completely ineffective. In spite of my calls to the nurse and other staff members, no one ever did what they said they would do. It was a horrible experience for my mom and my whole family. Lots of lip service, nothing more.

I would say not to put your loved one here. The staff they do have, have no training and there isn't enough staff for the community to resident ratio.

There have been 2 patients that have died of COVID; Director turnover; meals not delivered and they rehired an employee that had a history of elderly abuse. I would have RATED A zero IF I COULD. Please if you love your family don't place them in this facility and this is the absolute truth!!!! I am not going to put my real name to this review out of fear of retribution to our mom.

It is all about superficial optics, and not about the actual care. There is no training for the care givers. the rooms are good but pricey, and the meal services are very good. However we would not recommend this community to others.

The employees and head boss do not do anything, the residents do NOT get basic care, they do NOT get their hair brushed, teeth brushed, showers maybe once a week! Employees say they refused, so they don’t have to do the extra work. The head boss will walk into the building ([name removed]) and she will sit in her office while she watches employees sink. They are understaffed and this is why residents do not get basic care. Their restrooms NEVER get cleaned, toilets have BM Caked on them, Urine soaked into the carpet, ever sense Covid the families have not been inside, and the residents are being neglected. Meds do not get given, just dumped (they think it’s easier) and claim the resident refused. If you put your loved one here, know they willl NOTA RECEIVE any personal care, no activities, no good meals, they will have to sit in their own urine.. and they will be shut in their bedroom all day so they stay out of the way. Residents are always without any clean laundry because they do not have a regular housekeeper. Residents are given Ativan as soon as they “act up”. Watch out for story point in grand ledge! I would NEVER let my loved one step foot in here!

The staff is nice and the place is clean, however they did not care for our loved one like they initially promised. They did not clean her properly, she was a mess all the time. She developed blood clots in her legs and had to be hospitalized due to the lack of care she was receiving.

I am so disappointed with Senior Star! When I first brought my dad their for a 60 day trial everyone was so caring and attentive so my dad and are family had thought that we found a great home for my dad. Last week unfortunately things began to change,all of a sudden it felt like nobody was around and because of covid we weren't aloud to go inside and visit anymore. this afternoon my sister went to pick my dad up and supposedly because of covid someone was going to escort my sister to my dads room. First of all no one escorted my sister to my dads room, when she walked into his apartment he was laying on the floor his breakfast from 3 hours before was not touched and nobody had checked on him. I am so glad we got my dad out of this facility and apparently they are not doing their job at Senior Star we paid $5,400 a month for him to be there I expected better care for my dad.

Food 1) Poor quality 2) Unhealthy 3) Meat tough and greasy 4) Very long waits in dining room

Residents who could not do house cleaning/keeping lived in filth. Dirty carpets, unchanged beds, dirty toilets, etc. Clarendale fairly new. I'd hate to see it 4 years from now. No security. Thrift rampant by employees I'm told.

The general manager is the problem. I won a contest and was supposed to get a $25.00 gift card and I never got it. Other residents have also won prizes and not perceived them. She is lazy and permits her employees to be lazy also. This community was top notch when I cam here. [name removed] was the manager.

They did not check on my sister when they were asked to check on her. When they found my sister unresponsive they did not call her emergency contacts they only called 911. The only way we found out she was there was the hospital called my brother.

My WP is my HOME. I have lived here for 9 years. I have lived through many changes in managers. There is an adjustment residents have to go through each time management changes. What has helped each of us is the wonderful, friendly, caring and helpful permanent staff. Everyone on staff has stepped up to ensuring that we are living as safe as possible during this Corona 19 epidemic. Everyone not living at WP is really missing out on a great place to live!

We had a tour, but they informed us family would be responsible for feeding mother at the point she couldn't feed herself a few days a week. That was a little shocking to us. Not an option!

Some of the staff are rude. If you are going to work with the elderly youbetter have patience. They like nice cooperative people....dont complain. They will blow you off. Not worth the high price.
