Anytime I went to see my loved one, their hair was a mess. The front sides might be brushed, but the top and rest of their hair was not touched. They were dressed in whatever they found on the floor in their closet and sometimes it was not appropriate. No one bothered to help them change into something suitable. After breakfast one time, I had to help them change into different clothes as they were dressed in the same things they were dressed in the afternoon prior as I was there. Mostly my loved one was in their room laying in bed. Only once they were an activity when I came. It was nearly impossible to every speak with staff because I never saw them. Any of them. It would be rare for me to see one of the staff. For an exceesive amount, per month I feel they should have had some sort of attention now and then. Even after their feeding tube was removed, they did not lower the monthly cost. I was told it was so expensive because of the feeding tube. They actually had to stay an extra month because the staff person responsible for sending their information and med list did not follow through with this request. Finally, when I went to pick them up to move, none of their things were packed and ready so I had to do that all by myself. Several items are still missing.

My mother moved here when this facility first opened. We had high hopes. There were many, many issues that we attributed to the newness and that we hoped would be ironed out. They weren’t. More importantly, this building but looks like low income housing and sits the middle of nowhere. It’s next to a highway and there are no walking paths or gardens to explore. Whoever chose this location for the StoryPoint Portage building did a poor job. My mother was unhappy with so many aspects of the place that we moved her to a brand new facility which she loves. There’s much more feeling of community there and more areas to explore. Not just a building with a lobby like Storypoint Portage. Please make sure you look at all aspects of the facility before you move your loved one in. [community names removed] are all excellent choices. We wasted precious time having my mother at StoryPoint. She was miserable, but is so very happy now at her new home.

I toured HarborChase of Germantown; it was a bad experience. The lady who was supposed to be there wasn't there and she had this gentleman facilitate our tour. He couldn't answer any questions and he didn't have the packet of information. He also couldn't show us any of the rooms, so he just showed us common areas and the dining hall. No one called me back so I didn't like it at all. It was not a good experience. He couldn't answer anything; he just kept saying, "I don't know the answer to that, I'll have ask to ask her." - but she never called back.

Other then the kitchen mess, things seemed to start improving other than them always being short staffed. They have a few dedicated employees who our family loves. However, the head nurse is clueless and our favorite little nurse who seemed to be the only one who knew what was going on was suddenly gone. Has never been back. My mom and several of her friends are devastated by this. We don’t know what happened to her, but all we do know is that we need her back. She was the best and sweetest little nurse we’ve ever encountered.

This place is NOT for any resident that needs assisted living of any kind. The manger [name removed] cannot be trusted. He will tell you anything to get you to sign.

Food is wonderful. I love lots of fun and have made a lot of friends.

We had originally toured this community a few years ago for more independent living and this time we toured it for assisted living and had a completely different experience. It was just really bad - the sales marketing director was very inappropriate in so many ways that had actually resulted in our loved one going through an episode because of her dementia. We appreciate the sales marketing director engaging with our loved one but they kept asking our mother - why she would ever want to leave her beautiful town and come here." We were confused since it was already a tough process trying to explain to our loved one why she did have to leave home. The sales director also let us see an empty apartment but told our loved one it was empty due to a resident just passing away. So we just felt the entire tour was just bad and not helpful

When my Mother and Father went to Sunrise in 2015 they received excellent care. During the past few years the management has changed and they no longer care about their patients. Both my parents suffered from broken bones from falls. My Father passed away shortly after his episode. My Mother is struggling and we are forced to hire private sitters if we want her to receive any care whatsoever. They don’t care about your loved one, they care about profit.

Small rooms, slightly messy areas ( desks, lobby etc) and no place for my mom to enjoy a nice walk outside led us to look elsewhere. And my goodness the tour was much too “ high pressure” for our liking. Do your research, folks.

My husband lived there. Many things were good. He liked the food. Some workers were good. But the workers at night were not nice. He was afraid of some of them. I told him not to call for help at night, but sometimes he needed help. When he told me about problems, I told the director. She chose to support and defend her mean workers and made things worse for my husband. After she accused both of us of making things up, I had to move him out. (We had no reason to invent stories! We spent [price removed] to move him in. He needs help. It's close to our house.) The mean employees were hiding their bad behavior from the director. Why? They wanted to keep their job! If you care about your relative, do not let them live here.

Our family moved our father to Storypoint in April, 2021, & we moved him out at the end of June. Was a very traumatizing experience for my father & all family members. The memory care unit is very short staffed, often with just one care giver for 20 residents. It’s hard to keep all residents safe when ratio is 20 to 1. My father, who is wheel chair/ bed bound, suffered falls, etc. Many of the caregivers pulled me aside & apologized for the short staffing & the inability to take care of the residents. My father is on hospice & each time there was an incident regarding my father his case manager documented it, as required by law. Unfortunately, Story Point did NOT.....no record to be found. When hospice staff inquired, the response was, "there was no incident". We learned a big lesson.....the way things "look" & the way things "are" are two very different things. Please do not send your loved one to memory care at Storypoint. Our Father is now at [community name removed] & it is wonderful!

My dad is a resident here. While the common spaces look nice in the front of the building, there is a urine stench that fills the entire hallway where my dad lives. It burns your nostrils it is so bad. I don't know how anyone could live along that hallway. He has complained and management does nothing. He has a shower that has no hot water. The plumber has been down to look and shakes his head because it is not fixable. Management knows and does nothing. On a positive note, my dad receives therapy and the therapists have been great.

We did not have a good tour experience with Creekside at Shallowford. The room that they showed us on the tour was very dirty and we noticed that there were dead cockroaches in the door jams.

I could go on and on about the dishonesty and unethical practices at StoryPoint Portage, but there would need to be much more space available. Asking elderly residents and those with memory issues to give 5 star reviews is dishonest and unethical. No, StoryPoint, they are not willingly posting reviews, you are TELLING them to post and they are vulnerable and scared that their care will be compromised it they don't do as they are told. SHAME ON YOU! Senior Advisor...do the right thing and remove this flood of 5 star reviews from residents. This is NOT a 5 star facility.

High turnover rate with staff, the general manager is incompetent and disrespectful to employees. Do not place your loved one here.

What started off as a good experience turned quite frankly criminal for my grandfather in memory care at this facility. Extremely disappointed in this establishment and would be more than happy to provide further details offline. Please, please do not place your loved ones here.

The Sheridan’s web site and marketing material say all the right things, but our 92/90 year old parents experience daily service quality issues. This last week there was another 70 minute wait. This means 92 year old Dad has to provide care for Mom who is a stroke victim. We have provided the Sheridan of examples over and over again. Our concern is that both parents fall down due to the lack of care at the Sheridan. They say the right things but nothing changes

We toured during Covid, so it was pretty short. I didn't like that the man who showed us around didn't greet any residents he saw walking around. He kind of just ignored them.

I did not like this community. I just did not like the feeling that I got when you walk in and it did not seem to be very clean.

Managers lack customer service and people skills, not very kind to the elderly population or families they interact with. They oversell transportation, cleaning services and the dining options. If we were not stuck in this option we would be outta there. You would like with Covid and all the other threats to this age group, that cleaning would be at the for front. SMH!
