Leslie was very knowledgeable and helpful. Although the building was quite a bit older than the ones I have visited, the residents were partaking in many activities. That was great to see. One resident who had been there for 5 years said she was very happy living there and the people who lived and worked there were great.

Toured this facility a few years ago for independent living for Mom. Am now revisiting it for assisted living. We liked the location, the property, and the apartments. I will be bringing Mom back for a visit as she makes her decision as to where to live.

too expensive -- do not need all the fancy buildings, etc. More interested in just good care at an affordable rate.

My boyfriend's mother is pretty self-sufficient, just has slight memory trouble. We feel that the value for her to live here is too high -- she does not use the same facilities and services as other residents that are not as able as her, and she is still charged the same high monthly cost. There are not many activities available for those that are more self-sufficient and mobile. There is also very limited parking for visitors. The surrounding neighborhood is gorgeous, the community is very clean, and the staff has been wonderful, but it just was not the right fit for her!

My mom is very hard of hearing so I am probably unduly critical of some items. The staff and facility is superb. It is independent living so there is an element of self sufficiency that Mom prefers. However, I wish the staff would make more attempts to get her engaged--she has difficulty in the dining room hearing and entering into/hearing conversation, so if there were smaller settings where she could meet people, it would be good. That may come. She is hesitant to go to meals now because of the lack of being able to converse easily. However, the managers on site are very helpful and friendly and we appreciate the environment. They are open to suggestions, and I will probably contact them with some.

The staff at Legacy Pointe, Waukee is outstandingly understanding, helpful and friendly. That is the biggest plus. The place is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. The food is institutional for assisted-living. Some of the residents have difficulty eating some of the selections because they can't cut their meat or due to shaky hands, are unable to handle small, lightweight containers jello or fruits are put into. They offer computer classes, but when we went down to check it out, the place to meet was dark and nobody was around. Overall, because of the variety of personalities the staff must try to accomodate, they do a pretty good job.

Adequate living space a real plus. Clean and spacious. Mealtime seems a little long and drawn out, which is okay for some, but not for others.

So far my mother has been very happy at Aurora pond. Don was extremely warm and welcoming and made me as well as my mom feel comfortable. All in all a great experience and fit for my mom as well as my father who will be joining her in a couple months as he is recouping from a fracture. I would like to advise that anyone coming to this community and inquiring about pricing to please see the correct person who knows the pricing. I was quoted a cheaper price for a room and agreed to it as my mom really thought dad would like it better. 3 hours after agreeing to this room and mom being thrilled I was told the cost was $125 more than I was told per month. My folks are on a extremely tight budget as most seniors are and this was not doable for them. My moms been thru a great deal with this move and has had to give up so much I couldnt break her heart by saying she couldn't afford it so I said we'd take the room. The lack of this individual knowing the rates is now costing my family an additional bill per month that we did not need. I explained this situation and although they felt bad they stated that this person should not have been giving out prices......wish I would have known that! :(

So far, we are very pleased with Senior Star! Our only complaint would be that their response time seems to be slow when it comes to assistance. However, that could be due to my loved ones' expectations. The meals are fine. The friendliness of the staff is great! They get taken care of here! There are all kinds of activities to get involved in. The price is very comparable to others in the area. The rooms are much bigger here, though, and it seems much nicer than some of the other places we've experienced!

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for my loved one. It was a nice looking place, and everyone seemed very friendly. However, the price here seemed a bit high for what they provide, compared to some other communities we looked at that provided better quality for a similar price.

It would be nice to have some more stimulating activities. The food would be a five, he really likes the food. In terms of cost, they aren't totally up front when you walk in, you don't know that they are going to kind of nickle and dime you. Things are based on the level of care. You are sort of at their mercy when they bill you about a particular level of service, and how much time they spend with a person. Stephanie is a very valuable resource, we had an unexpected and unexplained charge on our first bill. She immediately got on the ball and had it taken care of. The people seemed generally happy here. The patients and the staff, everyone does seem happy and content. I liked that it was roomy.

I was impressed with how genuine they were. You could tell that they were genuine because of the way the residents would respond to the staff, just gleeful. Ward was fantastic and you can tell he really cares about the residents.

The Independent Living provided at this facility seems far superior to the care that is provided for the Assisted Living option. The staff and managment are friendly and seem to be caring of their residents, but there is just too little staff and they do not seem to meet the committed Assisted Living needs of their existing community members.

I think the way the meals are handled could be improved, if you are out of town or away you don't get those meals. Because there are 30 meals included in 30 days it would be nice if they could carry over instead of losing those meals, if you are not there. They could use more help in the dining room as well, there's not enough service. The front desk has been particularly helpful. The move in was not very organized, and that could have been handled a little better. We just kind of stumbled through it.

One thing that we are finding could use some improvement would be the response time when the residents press their call button. Sometimes, it can take them 10+ minutes to come, and although that doesn't seem like a long time, depending on the situation, that could be a very long time for the resident. All in all, we like this place. The space is very nice. It seems more like a home and a nice apartment all tied together. The apartments are large enough to fit all the furniture we had. The staff were all very nice and friendly. They were always happy and smiling. There is also a lot going on at the community.

Mom has lived here several years and knows most of the staff. Her level of care has increased and she has been hospitalized several times. Sometimes they have staffing shortages with the aides and that impacts the level of services, but overall she has received good care and the meals are great! They are currently building a memory care wing and I hope she won't need it, but it's nice to know its there.

We were very pleased with everything here! We toured this location when we were looking into options for our loved one. The staff were friendly and professional, and it looked like the care and activities they provided would be very food! One problem we noticed was that although the common areas and front entrance were nice, the hallways and rooms looked a bit shabbier, and could probably use recarpeting.

The common areas are kept clean. They have cleaning staff that clean the tenants apartments and they do a crappy job. They don't really clean, they just run the vacuum, I have to mop the floor, and clean the bathroom. This is an independent apartment. They only provide "housekeeping", meals, and activities. They presented that would be able to help with diet, or medication reminders, they don't help with that. They don't have enough staff to help with that. They somewhat clean the apartment and they are tiny. The food is pretty good, but it's not diabetic friendly, and they don't help monitor that at all. There seems to have been a lot of false representation. The staff is phenomenal, but the marketing person who gets you to sign on the dotted line. This is a 100% independent community and they have to be able to be 100% independent if they need help with any aspect of living, this is not the place.

Had a good visit here. Charlotte was candid and had experience with other places because of previous jobs. I found her comments helpful. Spring Meadows is very nice. Seems like a busy, active place. Because it has independent, assisted and Alzheimer's areas, there seem to be a lot of options here. Again, once I am closer to making a decision, I will take a closer look at the place.

Even though we were only there for six weeks everything about the Vintage Hills has been a wonderful expierence. The community is very clean, the staff is very helpful and the care needs for all its residents was exactly what we needed at the time.
