After many weeks of trying to find a senior residence for our Aunt, Pearl Crossing was a perfect fit. Christine was so helpful during the tour. The apartment was spacious with ample closets. The dining and meeting rooms were great and the grounds beautiful. The residents were also very welcoming.

My mom was there for almost 10 years. It's a very nice facility too but when she got into the Alzheimer's she had trouble with having roommates. She was doing really good on the assisted living side but she didn't have a roommate when she was over there. To put her in a private room in that part of the facility was going to be about $1200 a month higher than what another place was charging. We were really disappointed at having to move her.

The cleanliness is fine, it's more of the food. Her and some of the ladies there are just sick of chicken and they just say they get an awful lot of it. They try to do different things to it, but they're just not happy about the food. My mother says they've mentioned it to the help but I don't know, knowing my mother she probably did say something. I'm sure they're working on a budget and they've made improvements to the apartments and painted the halways; I appreciate the fact that they keep it up and it's nice, and it doesn't have the smell that some places do. I wish they would ggive the chef more money or get some more options, like turkey or pork. I do like the fact that my mother goes down to eat with other people, she's gone down to karaoke once I think, they seem to have a good variety of activities, I keep trying to get mother more involved. My mother is over 80 years old, so she's not going to do anything she doesn't want to and has a 1,000 excuses to not do something. When we went into this place she just really liked the set up, they had 3 different options for her to chose some, they've listened to their grievances and they've worked them out.

Toured on October 14. Too pricy and no first floor apts available.

The positives: 1. Residence rooms seem to have good finishing (Doors, cabinets, carpet, floors of decent quality and good floorplans). 2. Bathrooms have good design for mobility issues, and very similar from unit to unit. 3. The grounds are nice. 4. Flexible service. No in-house medical, but no restrictions on bringing in third parties. 5. A lot of basic service is included, including three meals a day. 6. Mom liked it. Negatives: 1. Oddly, main swinging doors to the back courtyard are not motorized/automatic open.

Beautiful, clean care center with great location in nice, convenient setting. Large rooms with large windows and natural light. Nicely furnished and maintained. Wonderful surroundings for those who have severe Alzheimer's Disease. My husband with Parkinson's Disease, who has severely limited mobility, was not allowed to use his motorized cart. Understandable from the point of safety for the other residents, but isolated him as he is totally helpless without the cart. He cannot move a wheelchair himself and relies on others for most things. Her requires too much care to be comfortable at Glen Oaks. He understands most of what is going on around him and the Alzheimer's level of interaction was not satisfactory for him. Know that, as expected, residents of AD care centers have interaction at a low [removed] child like games, simple food and a low expectation regarding activities, personal care and self direction.

I didn't think they had as much to do as another place I was considering and they were more expensive too.

Things are going alright. My parents have been there all of July and August. My mom is getting the care she needs. She doesn't like being there, but anyway, she's getting the care that she needs. My father, we're trying to get him involved in more of some of the things they have going on over there. He's getting used to the idea that he's not living with my mom anymore. Other than that, they're just trying to get acclimated. The people there are very nice.

My husband and I visited this one together and thought it was very nice. Everyone seemed pleasant and the food was good. when we toured I thought we could be in an independent facility;however, I now see that we need a secure place for just my husband.

I liked it but it had such small rooms. My mother's got too much mobility yet for something like that. I did like the care more at Sunrise than the place my mother chose. I notice that Sunrise had a lot more staff member just around and available. They were more visible all the time. With the exception of the small rooms they were on the upper end. The rooms were like you put a bed and a dresser and it's full. Sunrise was my choice except for the small rooms but my mother fell in love with another place.

It seems very pricey, I had no idea how much senior care costs. She gets the supplement nursing care with help showering, getting medications and that's very pricey. We did not know that they were not licensened and neither is their healthcare so her long term insurance won't pay for it. We only had a week to decide and we really liked waterston and waterstone has been cooperative; the alternative would be something a long way away, there's not a licensed place in this area. We didn't know enough to ask the right questions and with the time crunch, it was chaotic but I assumed that any place as nice as waterstone would be licensed. They try to get her invovled, she's very social, she loves the nurses and she keeps her door open which surprised me but she will not go to the dining room or any functions unless I go with her. She really likes it, that's why we don't want to move her and she has her own things and furniture with her which is really nice.

We chose Spring Meadows for my mother because the atmosphere and decor there were so welcoming. It is a beautiful facility! We needed a place that provided support with her memory issues yet still gave her a feeling of autonomy. There are so many great things it is hard to list them all. One huge thing was it allowed her to keep her dog - this is difficult to find, yet a life saver for our Mom. (At this time, there are only 2 dogs that live there that I know of.) The assisted living staff make sure she gets to meals, adm. her meds, check on her every night, and take full responsibility for her where-abouts. Everyone (even w/o asst. living) gets light housekeeping. Lots of activities - bingo and other games, movies every night, exercise classes, church services, weekly shopping bus trips, special outings. Another great thing is that when she needs full memory care, her apartment (though in a different part of the building) will 'feel' the same (floor plan, etc.). The dining room is beautiful and the food is a good quality and variety. It feels like eating in a nice restaurant with cloth napkins and beautifully upholstered chairs. The asst. living staff has been great - they call me when there are issues (Mom won't shower, I need to refill her meds, etc.) so I feel like I am informed when I need to be. Another small thing but lovely is the portico in the front. During nice weather, it is a great place where many residents sit and chat or just enjoy the weather. Mom sits there with her dog almost every day in the summer. There are sunrooms on every floor, but I don't ever see the residents spend time there (pity!) There is also a piano in the foyer which I often play when I visit. The residents love it. Yes, it is expensive, but still comparable to another place we were considering. It looks and feels like an upscale apartment building - there are residents from Lake Forest and other nicer communities. Unlike my Mom, I believe these residents CHOSE to live here. My mom still misses her large bright home (her apt. tends to be dark), but all things considered, she seems content most of the time. And we know she is safe and well-cared for.

I really liked it but the cost and the location were not as good as another community. It was very nice.

It was very expensive but very, very nice. My parents did not want a huge place so this one was too big for them and it was too expensive. They wanted a small, homey place. This is in the busy Plano area.

It's newer and more modern. Certainly a better value, I believe, even though I never lived there. They sure seemed clean and very frienldy.

We liked most of the staff, we only had problems with one of the gals and unfortunately they couldnt either transfer her out of our section or they couldn't sub someone else and thats part of the reason why we left. We also had problems with management a little bit and butted heads a couple of times. My parents needed to have 24 hour aids and management didnt like that I was bringing in an outside company but I didnt feel like they could handle my parents, they NEEDED 24 hours because theyre both fall risks and my dad couldnt leave his rehab facility until he had 24 hour aids. They had good activities, the problem is, my parents are in their 90s and they were older than the other people so they were kind of a special case. My dad couldnt really particiapte and my mom wouldnt want to leave my dad so it was different for other people.

They have emergency pull cords in the corner of the living room and one in the bathroom. I feel like they need to update their emergency system like other communities that have the emergency pendant. They have a kitchenette in the rooms. The cost is $3,300 for an efficiency apartment and about $400 extra for level 2 care. It is setup like you are just renting an apartment so you have to bring all your own stuff like towels, kitchen stuff and furnisher. There are some staff members that seem like they are not very kind with some of the residents almost like they are bothering them. But overall it is a pretty good community.

Nice place...to expensive... I can move Mom into All Sesons for less

Beaverdale Estates is a very good community. They have really good food and they have really good people working here. It was a really good community but it just did not have the level of care that we were looking for.

(Activities Not Rated has not had a chance to participate) The way the community looks is so elegant. We found other places like this for a higher price. They really gave us the best rate in town. The meals are excellent have had a chance to try the crabs, salad, soup and a few other meals and each one of those was excellent. The people here are just wonderful. I would absolutely recommend this community to anyone.
