Our experience with The Montebello was a poor one, and I wouldn't recommend them. We had issues with the staff being rude and disrespectful towards my loved one, and I have heard the same complaint from personal acquaintances, so I know it wasn't just us.

I think their assisted living site is quite good. Its just that the rooms are very small there and are not made for two people. I think their independent living site is not so good. If you need medication or care, they miss a lot. And that's the part that is just disappointing. I also think they need a full time RN.

Don’t use them. Don’t get caught up in the sales pitch – the product doesn’t live up to the pitch. It wasn’t even close to what I wanted for my loved one. We were only there for a short stay before we moved.

Dark halls and just did not seem upbeat. Tour was disappointing.

Has potential; call first to see if pricing includes any assistance!

What is written here is only the tip of the iceberg. I have since moved my husband to another facility. Four days after my husband moved in, the nurse in charge of memory care called me into her office and said that after my last visit, my husband was very agitated and upset (that I had left without saying goodby) and was kicking at the doors, looking for me and setting off the alarms. "She would appreciate it, if in the future, I would say goodby to him and not just leave". I told her that in the 32 years we've been married I've NEVER left without saying goodby, He is in memory care, do you think he might have forgotten saying goodby to me? Then, at the end of the month, she had a glowing review of his behavior. My husband was at the Oaks 6 months and that was the only written review I was able to get from her. I repeatedly asked for reports and she said she would have the activities director e-mail me weekly. I got 3 emails from her. The list of problems and neglect goes on and on. Showers were not on a regular basis. He would be in the same clothes 24 hours a day sometimes for a week. He slept in his shoes, socks and clothes and in a recliner. his feet were not even looked at until I had him take his shoes and socks off because his legs were swollen (another problem) and saw that his toe nails were not trimmed in 4 months. They eventually had a podiatrist come out to attend to his feet. I asked him how he trimmed his fingernails because they were short, he put his fingers up to his mouth and made a biting gesture. I guess if he had been more limber he could have done his toes the same way. If you decide to do business with them, get EVERYTHING in writing. Its a beautiful facility, the food is very good, some of the staff are truly caring and attentive. There is a new director, head nurse in memory care and change if other staff. It may happen that they are able to turn the many issues around but not in time for us.

i am supporting my 90 year old mother in her latter years. i pay $2500.00 a month for a small room and meals. its a very nice place but the food and food services are very poor. fresh fruit in season is not provided. same meals every night, chicken or pork. many residents are leaving due to this problem.

The place is beautiful but it's understaffed especially servers, med techs and caregivers. I heard a man slipped on a wet floor and was on the ground for four hours!! Caregivers didn't even noticed.

Let me start out with a few positive things about this facility. It is very beautiful outside. Inside is clean and smells wonderful. Resident rooms are nice sized for comfort and skilled staff members. By all outward appearances, things are quite nice until, " that one little mishap." My elderly mother with dementia was on a one month respite stay to determine if it would work out permanently. Mom tends to wander and all members of staff "knew" this. Well..... I received a phone call from the Phoenix police department informing me that my mother was in a mattress store, confused, and lost. I immediately called the Scottsdale Gardens, told them who I was and asked about my mother. I asked if they were "missing" anyone. Their response, "Well no." I informed them of the call from the police and they quickly realized the trouble that would soon ensue. I am appalled at the lack of accountability of this facility. Mom had a "wander guard" bracelet on, but obviously removed it , AGAIN. This facility is sorely lacking at keeping a better eye on residents who are a wander risk. Needless to say, I have removed her from this place and the facility made it very clear she was "unable to continue there and I would have to make other arrangements, because she needed a secure facility and they had a waiting list for their secure area. This facility doesn't have alarms on doors for alerting, even when residents remove their bracelets.

We had pretty decent experience with parents in assisted living for past 2 years but have had terrible experience with skilled nursing the past 9 days! They are very understaffed, very rude at checking in patient who is a high fall risk from a large brain blood clot from neuro ICU. They say they'll do laundry for a fee per month so we check that, they put up sign by closet stating facility will do laundry but the laundry just sits dirty in hamper for over a week! They are very unorganized, very understaffed and now we see why St Jos hospital does not have The Forum on it's recommended list of skilled nursing facilities. We are paying for the assisted living apt rent and they are getting paid by Medicare and AARP insurance for skilled while our father is here but the care and mostly communication and organization is terrible. We may have to transfer him! Disappointed with management- feel sorry for caregivers with no direction and too much work. All for profit.

The business office was rude and does not communicate clearly or kindly. The receipts don't make sense. Still trying to understand where money was applied. Some people who work there lack customer service skills, basic ones. Other than that, nice place. However, don't be fooled about promises for a wait list preference. Most everyone is great, but those who are not make for a bad and expensive experience. Look past the hype

It was a horrible experience. The staff did not follow the direction of hospice. They did not give pain meds as directed by hospice and my wife suffered until she passed away. The lady in charge [name removed] called and cried as she apologized for their lack of adequate care for my wife. These people are terrible and should be investigated for their poor practices.

I have rated friendliness with one star because of experiences I am having with the Executive Director regarding my pet and their requirements. After receiving a phone message that I would need to make other arrangements for my pet, my callback to her was obviously in an angry tone because my pet is as much my life as my son is. She was condescending and kept telling me to 'be quiet and listen. When my son confronted her regarding the way I was treated, she exaggerated and lied to him regarding the conversation we had. So even though I really like the other staff here I cannot trust the upper management to do things that are in my best interest.

Never trust a loved one to these people. Their lack of communication with hospice caused my wife great suffering. The staff appeared to be in constant turnover. The administrators and sales team promised to care for my wife and failed miserably.

I chose this community based on your company recommendation. Big mistake. Dirty kitchen, very low quality food. Unconcerned management. I will not recommend Thunderbird nor A place for mom.

This community is too large and confusing for seniors. Felt high pressure sales and little compassion during my visit. They really push their newly remodeled facility but there was little care/concern for my loved one's wellbeing. I'd highly caution anyone considering this place!

This place was awful. My loved one had diabetes and was constantly given sugary treats to eat and even developed a diabetic wound on his foot while there and it went undetected and infected because they didn't check him over during shower time. When we tried to leave, they made it extremely difficult and even tried to come after us for more money even with proper notice. I would NEVER put my loved one here again. Nasty people.

This is by far the worst place I could of ever imagined for my mother. Towards the last few months of her life I wasn't even able to contact her due to the phones being down and or no staff answering the phones. The communication between myself and other family members was inconsistent between each shift. My mother was assaulted by another resident which caused her to fall breaking a hip which ultimately lead to her death not even 2 weeks later. I'm saddened that my mother's last contact was one in which caused her death. The nursing staff did not follow up with me or inform me of findings. I would not wish this upon anyone to go through. The nursing home failed to keep my mother safe on multiple times. My mother was on hospice which should of ment that she was being cared for one on one 24 hours 7 days a week. Sickened by this riddled with guilt that I didn't move her prior to this knowing the way they treat the patients.

I don't like to complain but this is a very terrible and dangerous and extremely low quality place. Staff was grumpy and many didn't care or didn't do the job at all. Absolutely avoid this place. I would not want my worst enemy to stay here. They make it look so nice on the surface. They make lot's of promises and never fall through and are extremely expensive and then don't take care of your loved one at all. Even hospice that my dad was on kept saying he needed to find better care because of how bad everything is there.
