I really just took a quick tour of the Brookdale Northdale facility, but from what I saw initially about the place is that it is a somewhat decent place to live. I know that the staff was definitely very friendly.

They tried to work with us. My father has alzeihmers. But there were a few needs that he had that they overlooked in the assessment (which in retrospect I feel should have been more thorough). I ended up having to get dad out of there and into a care facility that had more of a focus on memory care.

Even though our mothers has not been at the Haven very long, so far our experience has been good.

It was nice, clean, the staff were friendly. We liked it, we were going to move in, but it didn't work out. It ended on a good note though.

It was alright. I have thought about that as a back up option. The only reason I really didn't pick Emeritus is because I started getting negative feedback on them from a TV program.

When mom first got there she was not happy with the staff and my brother and I were having a hard time speaking with them or anything changing. A lot of the residents including mom thinks the food is horrible. Sometimes they only get a sandwich for dinner. The staff has changed over often since mom's been there and they promise better but it's slow coming. Prices going up services going down.

Staff: 1) They have a lot of turnover and use a lot of temps. 2) It appears that some only do the minimum required work. Activities: 1) I do not see a lot of activities except for the residents sitting in front of the TV. 2) The activities calendar is a joke; I never see anything on the calendar taking place. One example is the “hydration cart” every afternoon. I rarely see this and when we ask one of the staff about it, the answer was “ we don’t do that”. 3) They do have some activities like painting and games. Food: 1) The appears acceptable, a little heavy on carbs and sugar. 2) Meals appear to be served on time. Cleanliness: 1) The main area is mostly clean 2) Smells from time to time. 3) Laundry is not consistent. Items are lost regularly and mixed up. 4) We must bring toiletries; there is never any toilet paper in the bathroom. 5) Paper towels were replaced with cloth hand towels which are present sometimes. Room Size: 1) The size is very good for one person 2) A little cramped for two but it acceptable. General: 1) A lot of things that we were told early on turned out to not be exactly true or accurate. 2) Mom’s glucose monitor was lost weeks ago and no concern in locating it. We would like be able to see the readings when they take her sugar so we can monitor. Please note that we only visit a couple times a week, so I am sure we don’t see everything that goes on.

The staff is friendly, the place is very clean. The elevator closest to my Dads place has been out of use for a month, not good. The food is just ok. The apartment is great

The facility and room were above average. The front-end staff are excellent. Generally speaking, the caregivers were not typical of those experienced in other facilities. The nature of the job garners those who need a jump. Some are clock punchers and are not talented or gifted for the work. I suggest visiting three or more communities and seeking the opportunity to interview several caregivers randomly. Pop-in visits are best to enable meeting staff, but not necessarily for observation or talking with random caregivers.

Staff is friendly, place is clean, size of rooms is fine. food is horrible. they say breakfast is good, the rest is horrible. frozen vegetables turn to mush.

The PT personnel were wonderful!!! They were very accommodating to my husband's ever-changing abilities. The food was mediocre when we were there. I did a lot of cooking. Which is great with the full kitchen. The menu was basically the same thing served on different days of the week. They have since replaced the head chef. The front desk staff was wonderful! There are a lot of activities, but we were not able to participate, so we did not develop a circle of friends. There was a mass exodus when the current management company took over. The monthly rent was raised and long time residents balked. The new management company was trying to upgrade many things when I left in June. I did not find communication with management easy to navigate. It is such a beautiful facility and hopefully they can fill empty apartments!

The staff working with my mother was caring however they did not seem to have the experience of communicating with family members the concerns with my mother. Food was great. Cost was great. Facility was new and always clean. My mother didn't get her medication as needed. She had a stroke which made me aware that she was not taking the blood thinners. I have medical questions that still have not been resolved. She is living at an older facility in Monroe which has a very antique facility but the care for her is physical and mental needs are better addressed. There was so many issues administratively that I feel anxiety when I think of her stay. I feel that the management team was not following up with what was promised when I signed her up. I would not recommend that facility for any person needing a great deal of medical attention. I visited the facility two or maybe three times a week- so I speak from my experience and not what I heard.

1.Cleanliness: The facility appeared to be very clean. (I will say there were a couple of visits my mom's bathroom was a mess and was not cleaned up after they had bathed her or changed her adult diaper. 2.Activities: they do a great job keep residents busy. 3.Food: it could be better. 4.Staff: [Name Removed] is amazing! [Name Removed] (spelling wrong) was amazing! Both of these ladies came to the hospital to see my mom and check on her. A couple of observations: I believe they are short shafted. No one answering the entrances, you have to ring a buzzer and wait for someone to come by or wait until someone can get free. A mystery I didn't have the time to figure out, and we didn't have at other facilities, was my mom's glasses would come up missing a lot. One day she had someone else's glasses on. My mom's remote to her TV came up missing. I was told they had a resident that would steal/take other residents stuff. I did NOT like this. [Name Removed] and the Activity person (young lady)are the shining light for this facility and are a huge plus for this facility. Overall rating 3+ stars. I believe I'd be remiss if I didn't mention what I would call a bit confusing line of communication regarding injuries. my mom had a huge bruise on the side of her head that also affected one eye. I asked several times what happened and never got what a reasonable person would consider a straight answer. This happened on [Date Removed] I saw her Monday morning and they told me she was fine. I asked several different people what happened and they either didn't know or were not sure what happened. Tuesday night she had a massive stroke and never regained consciousness. She went in the hospital on [DatRemoved] and passed away on [Date Removed]. All of these places need to work on having very clear processes for recording incidents and a one point of contact for the family that can give the official information. I thought about my response to you and this is a thoughtful and truthful response.

Fields was OK. I feel he wasn't properly assessed to stay there. He was only there for 4 days and fell went to the hospital again then to another rehab and they said he needed memory care. Moved him there he was only there for about 10 days and fell out of the wheelchair and passed away. I felt Fields was trying to talk me into keeping him there even tho he really needed memory care. They were being argumentative about it. They finally were like well ok, well except this as your 30 day notice. I felt they weren't very caring to me or about the situation. Or wanting to do the right thing for my husband.

The regular staff is great, the temp staff they bring in--not so much. The ones that are on a regular schedule take great care of my dad. The admin staff must do a better job of communicating.

My mother was at the memory care and what you see is not what you get. You get a nice big furnished room with a bed, tv, drawers and closet space. The activity director is great and provides activities M-F but weekends has little to no activities planned or activity. Residents are left to stare at each other. You do not get updates on progress and can ask periodically and get some information. Staff has a large turnover and residents and families are not introduced by name and function. Select staff is indifferent with lack of empathy, several looking thru you and fails to treat people as human beings. Careful with conversations in the common area, they listen to your convo without notice. Maybe memory cares are similar however, residents should be treated with respect and care. It must be hard to find quality staff, as noted at AL.

They're really trying but they might be a little under staffed Foods. Okay have tried some of it cuz I've ate with her. It's not nothing nothing to write. They're way overpriced. They should be probably half. I have a really strong feeling that if I didn't come visit and check things. They might not give my mom the care. She needs or that great of care.

I have to say that I felt pressured to use them. Staff was all over me to sign the contract. Once I did, things were different. Not to mention I wasn't able to have my Mom stay but a few months. Once staff knew I was leaving, they acted like I was invisible and NO ONE came to help me move her out. I will never be back

Med tech Staff is excellent but over worked. Used to serve food in dinning room; dinning room staff was fired/quit. Not replaced. Around [Date Removed] Then caretakers were let go not replaced. So now there are only 2 med tech on the 3rd and 2nd floors and 1 on the first floor At night it's only 2 med tech and sometimes 1. The food is so-so. Things that are on the "Always available " maybe only 2-3 times a week. The place is keep clean. The upkeep on maintenance is excellent. The rooms are excellent.

My mother is not a complainer or a picky eater. The food is consistently bad. People there are not very active. I would not recommend.
