Very disappointed in the way COVID-19 outbreak at this facility was handled in June. The person with POA (me) for a resident was not informed she tested positive (asymptomatic) until she had already been removed from the facility and sent to a hospital NOT of our choice. This created a nightmare for the family. . Heron East did not send POA documentation with any of the residents to this hospital. I know this because the case management director told me this. When it was discovered POA documents had not been sent by the ALF for our family member, the hospital then realized NONE of the POA documents had been sent for ANY of the patients they had received from Heron East. Heron East stripped her room without informing us it would be done, then we were told when she returned she could not have her own room back. Prior to the outbreak we had increased the care level of the resident and wanted documentation that this extra care was being provided since the facility was on lockdown. In our inquiries regarding this issue our phone calls were seldom returned, and NEVER RETURNED by [name removed], who was supposedly in charge of this. We never were given any proof that the extra care we were paying for was occurring. Only at the end , when we needed to locate valuables belonging to the resident and make arrangements to get her belongings out of the facility did we start getting phone calls returned. We did not go back to Heron East once our family member recovered. When we went to get her furniture and belongings we ended up with 2 boxes of someone else’s stuff, causing us to wonder how many others had same experiences. This facility let us down. The emergency of the COVID-19 breakout is no excuse. Protocols should have ALREADY BEEN IN PLACE that would have prevented the things revealed in this review. It was inevitable that an outbreak would eventually happen. But Heron East seemed to be flying by the seat of their pants once staff members spread the contagion. The Power of Attorney for a person incapable of making their medical decisions should ALWAYS be their first phone call before actions are taken in a medical situation such as this. Now the facility is running a campaign to fill all the empty rooms. Very disappointed , and yes, angry, about in the poor management in this entire situation.

It looks great, is clean, and is affordable. I believe the assisted living part would be a good place for independent living, but be very cautious about choosing it if you or a loved one needs assistance. It was usually difficult to find anyone to help after the office staff left at 5:00. The dining hours are limited, and the staff in the dining room is as well. The receptionists were always friendly and welcoming. The nursing office staff was adequate. We felt the management and resident assistants however were unfriendly, and uncaring. Calls for help in the room were not always answered, and when they were, the staff showed up late and sometimes acted indignant. We had enough disappointing experiences there that it prompted us to leave for fear of injury and neglect.

My father is a resident and we are getting him out as soon as possible. His health is suffering because of one thing - the food. Residents have been complaining to management for the almost two years he has been there, about the salt in the food. It falls on deaf ears. Some things are so salty that he has to send them back. He had a heart attack last year, [removed] and the cardiologist says his sodium levels continue to be very high. Since food is a major component of an independent living facility, I would not recommend this place to anybody.

Let me just give a list: We had a signed “All Inclusive” Contract. They changed these conditions without informing us. Never received notice. They stated that it was mailed but could not provide a copy of said letter. They added $[fee removed] worth of “enhanced” services. Imagine getting that bill. They insisted that our Mom needed a wheelchair. No problem, we got her on asap. She fell out of this wheelchair and broke her foot because they just left her sitting in it. Bedsores started after she broke her foot. All of her clothes and linen disappeared, despite the fact that her name was on EVERYTHING. We were charged incontinent supplies for several months after hospice took over and was providing those items. They started giving her and charging for protein shakes without informing us. They started puréing her food without a doctor’s consent or informing us which led to a system backup. She ended up in the hospital because she was throwing up feces. This is just a small list.

I had a good feeling when I first scheduled a tour with Harbison Shores. The person in charge of tours seemed friendly and knowledgeable and the price in respect to other facilities in our area seemed reasonable. I never met with the director until the week before I moved my mother into the facility. They all assured me that they would assist with the initial move in day since that was one of my biggest concerns. When it was time for me to leave no one helped at all. My mother kept trying to follow me out and I didn’t know what to do. It was heartbreaking. I was in tears. I had to knock on the directors door and at first was told they were in the middle of something. She just told me to go and my mom would eventually understand that this is where she lived now. I couldn’t believe it. I just wanted someone to help create a diversion to help both of us. After that I decided to just befriend the nurses as much as possible. I came frequently at all different times to try and track her level of care during the day and evening. One of my biggest concerns started when mom’s clothes were always missing. Now, I completely understand that dementia patients take things that don’t belong to them. The thing that made me upset is when I would try to take mom out and ALL of her shoes were missing. I had to take my mom to TJ Maxx with no shoes on so I could buy more. As far as activities were concerned there didn’t seem to be much effort to help entertain the patients. Most days they were all herded into a movie room for hours on end. Several of them would look and me and say how thirsty they were but no one was ever around to help give them a cup of water. Whenever I would walk around I could never find anyone(nurses or aids). I was always told they must’ve been in someone’s room. It was very frustrating. Only one nurse ever seemed to be helpful. My mom fell twice at the facility in a six week period. The second fall associated with a seizure put her in the hospital for 6 weeks. She never recovered from that. She is now in a wheelchair and can’t eat on her own. I asked to see the video of the incident but when I came to see it no one that was there including the director knew how to work the equipment to view it. In general, the food was often so tough I could barely cut it for my mother. It also frequently smells very bad in the facility, like urine and feces in the common area. Again, I know that this level of care is challenging. I just felt that beyond the initial sales pitch the level of care was sub par.

This place could be great, but it is obvious that the owners do not care about senior citizens. The food is terrible and the residents keep complaining but nothing changes but instead grows worse. They allow teens to use the pool and exercise room, which causes the residents to stay away. There is a lack of caring response when complaints are brought up.

I don't recommend!!! First of all, they lied about their services such as: No hairdresser No podiatrist No Doctor My mom has had one shower in almost 2 months They don't help her with bathroom They have not changed her sheets at all Room gets cleaned once every 2 weeks All of her personal items have been stolen Most of her socks/ underwear are gone and some clothes They leave her in same pjs/clothes for several days because they don't check in her to help Their food is awful and they usually only get a small plastic cup of water or koolade 3 times a day. She's lost 25 lbs. They charged her account for meds she doesn't take. I have to pay because she doesn't have prescription coverage She's paying almost [removed] per month from savings for nothing

1. What I liked most about the community was the friendliness of the residents. They always made you feel welcome in the dining room 2. They could improve on their staff response to the light system. I had multiple falls and felt I was made to feel like I was falling on purpose! I left because I was unhappy there.

Westhills bought this facility from [community removed], just like they did at [community removed]. The new policies are terrible. The cleaning staff took all their equipment and supplies with them? No vacuum and no toilet paper? Everyone has known this change in ownership was coming for a long time. How are they not prepared?! If you are looking at Westhills in Macon, make sure they've gotten their act together first. Look elsewhere first - maybe come back in a couple months. It's appropriate that there is a Chick-fil-A photo as the site photo for this page. Typically unprepared and inept.

Horrible place!!!! Memory Care is what I’m writing this review on! Our mom was placed here November and we pulled her out end of May…way too long!!! Food is HORRIBLE! Staff is lazy and as long as you don’t mind your loved one eating in a dining room with dirty depends lying on the floor I would recommend you look elsewhere! Christmas morning she ended up with a broken wrist and no one knows HOW…WiFi is horrible…just DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!

Memory care was pretty awful. I originally scheduled to be there in regular area, which was fine but memory care stunk. It was dark dreary. The staff couldn't get her meds right they couldn't feed her. They wouldn't provide meals. They wouldn't remind her. It was time to eat just overall in memory care was a horrible experience and we were not there more than a week.

As so many others noted, this place should be ashamed of itself. The facility itself is beautiful but its run beyond poorly. Constant problems with medication and food delivery. Poor seniors don't get to eat because the staff (or lack thereof) forgets to bring them food. I've had to beg for meals four times just in the last week because they forgot to deliver to my parent who is on Hospice. Medication delivery is a nightmare. Every single day its late - sometimes VERY late, sometimes not at all. Nobody is ever around so when we look for a med tech to get the pills, the hallways are barren. Calling the facility after 5pm or on weekends is useless. They NEVER answer the phone. The "panic" button residents wear around their necks go unanswered for 30-40 minutes or more before someone comes. Its absolutely ridiculous, despicable treatment of our beloved seniors. And its expensive so they have some nerve providing this disgusting lack of care. I have a long written list of detailed issues s

The feedback is not positive. My mom developed a stage 4 pressure sore which was a direct result if the staff letting her sit to long in her wet depends. She arrived at the facility on [dates removed] we were treating her sore. We were finally referred to a wound clinic and were told the pressure sore was too large for them to treat. My mom was admitted to the hospital on [date removed] and had major surgery on the wound [date removed]. She was hospitalized for eight days with a wound VAC from there. The story goes downhill as we had to transfer her to a variety of other facilities for her continued treatment and she passed away on [date removed]. Needless to say myself and my family do not feel good about the care received at The Glen.

Unfortunately, our experience with Fields of Florence was so bad that our loved one was moved out of the facility in 30 days. Too many empty promises and disappointments with subpar food, mediocre care, and insensitive local management when it came to our legitimate concerns. We will never recommend Fields of Florence to anyone. They need to tell the truth at the start and keep the promises they make to new residents and their family members.

I was so disappointed in the care. [name removed] moved into the facility in October and fell out of bed 4 times in a 2 week timeframe and was taken to ER. His wife [name removed] felt it was necessary to ultimately hire 2 people to stay with him M-F until he went to bed. In December he suffered a foot injury and since he was on Hospice he was not taken to the hospital since the injury was not related to his dementia. It was horrific looking. I came for a visit the end of December about a week before he passed and spent many hours at The Glen and we barely saw any personnel. In a 5 hour timeframe only 1 person came in to check on him one time. Activity- all of Memory Care patients were wheeled to the TV Room to watch and listen to music. The staff just sat and visited with one another. On [date removed] the Hospice felt it necessary to order Morphine. It took 48 hours for the med to get to the facility. Unacceptable. I understand that the medication was ordered by Hospice but he was a resident of The Glen and there should have been follow up by The Glen. We asked several times to no avail. Basically like The Glen had washed their hands of him now that he was on Hospice. As [name removed] became weaker and despondent I asked a staff member about the tremors his body was experiencing and she replied"That's death. Very insensitive and [name removed] the wife burst into tears. I do want to point out there was one staff member that was exceptional. Her name was [name removed]. Overall the [name removed] experience from beginning to end was a very expensive nightmare.
