Spring Arbor Senior Living

The food is good as far as I can tell from my uncle. My uncle has Alzheimer's so it is hard for me to know what is true and not true about his comments. But I think overall they do a good job. There are a few staff members he does not like, but I can't tell if it's them or his dimensional issues.

The facility is nice but you still have to constantly check that the staff is doing for your loved one what you have told them or expect to be done. Especially if your loved one has confusion. I will talk to specific aides about what I want done but when I come back someone else is working and has no idea what I am talking about. Transportation for a resident to the doctor is only available on certain days.

When they changed ownership, they lost lots of nurses and other staff but now that they have regular staff team again, it is a good place to have my Mom. She is very happy there and loves the food and always says that everybody is always willing to help and always nice to her.

A memory care unit is hard to evaluate. I was impressed with several members of the staff. The staff/client ratio was the best I could find. The facility is very clean, meals were well prepared. I felt more supervision was needed with walking for my loved one. I would overall recommend because I could not find a better facility with the kind of ration in the area - the max they take into their memory care unit is 15

Overall, I would give Spring Arbor - Rocky Mount a rating of 4.2 and I would recommend it to others. Most importantly, the quality of care was good. On the down-side, staff engagement level with residents was not quite what we had expected. Another area for possible improvement was billing. It seemed more complicated than it needed to be. Overall, I would suggest as a fair balance between quality of care and price

It would be so nice if all memory care facilities had a higher ratio of caregiver to patient, but I don't think that's realistic. There is less structure on the weekends and I would like to see that improve. If I ask for something or mention a need, they are fairly quick to respond. Overall, our experience has been good.

The building seems very clean and bright. The staff always greets me and knows and comments on my Dad's progress with walking. They seem to actually pay attention and care about his well being. He doesn't participate in many activities, but he does appreciate the availability of Catholic Mass. Onsite PT is very helpful to him, plus the ability to use exercise equipment on his own time. He is very happy with the food. Just a small critique of the food service is some days he waits to be served for 20 minutes or more. I would also mention due to the timing of staff changes our semi annual care team meeting was missed. I had to ask for a re-evaluation to get his level of care score lowered. They did do that, which saves him money every month.

Our Mother has recently become a resident of Spring Arbor and we couldn’t be more happy. Everyone, both staff and residents, are so friendly and going out of their way to make her feel comfortable and a part of their community. The quality and level of individual care exceeded our expectations.

They don't pay their employees enough to keep them and have constant turnover. That doesn't lead to personal relationships with patients or their families. The off shift needs more supervision. Several employees there confided in us that they would sometimes miss a weekly paycheck. I don't understand how that happens. They have some good people working there that don't feel very appreciated leading to apathy in patient care. It was by far the nicest facility that we looked at in our search

Management and staff here bend over backwards to make residents feel comfortable and at home. The building has gotten a beautiful makeover with new flooring and carpeting and we are awaiting new artwork! I would give this part of the review 5 stars but feel nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement which management strives for.

My family and I have noticed high turnover in staff at the facility in Winchester. My dad has gotten to know many of the staff members, and they have moved on. It's evident there is a challenge to retain experienced personnel. My dad has consistently raised meals as a concern as well. To be fair, he is very picky, but he has stated many times that the meals "have gone downhill" especially dinner.

They were kind and responsive to questions, and had good attitudes. They could improve by a little more attentiveness to new residents who are having problems adjusting. Our mother fell getting out of bed and broke her hip on the 10th day. They found her on the floor. And that was the end of her stay.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Lots of planned activities. But cost is high. I would recommend.

I loved how all the communities were set up based on the patient's healthcare needs unfortunately not all staff is educated on the patient's needs. We were often met with comments about. I never work in this community and I wasn't aware, keeping open lines of communication with the nursing director Helped us to get the care we needed for my father-in-law.

Food was a big thing for us. Mom stopped eating because she didn't like what they cooked. They also pressured her to go and eat in the dining room.

The staff are friendly. They are patient and attentive. They keep the laundry done and bed made. They have activities more so during the week. Mealtimes are very quiet. I wish the staff interacted more or would play music during meals. The mattresses aren't great. The Cottage is very clean and secure.

The place was clean!!! Admin was nice, and helped me understand things.

The staff is prompt and friendly. My studio is bright but small. Meals are a Cplus.

I feel Spring Arbor of Kinston was a nice place for my mom and the staff was wonderful. They explained everything very well when I toured their facility. Upon my visits or phone calls, they answered all my questions and checked on any concerns. They took great care of her and kept me well informed on her daily progress. They encouraged her to participate in group activities and checked on her often. They have a doctor there weekly and have them check on any concerns about patients they have or I had. The rooms and building were very clean and a nice size. The food was good. Mom was in the memory care unit there. She felt comfortable being there. I felt comfortable placing my mom there and would highly recommend this Spring Arbor of Kinston to others. I looked at a few places in elsewhere and were not satisfied with them and am thankful I found Spring Arbor of Kinston.

The one thing that needs to be improved is the Med-Management Company they use - Guardian - located in NC. They are totally incompetent to be managing medications. I have spent hours on the phone with Guardian trying to get the correct meds & vitamins going to the correct person. Waterstone charges $[removed] a month per person for this service, which doesn't include the cost of the meds. Definitely room for improvement in this area. Mostly I like the room layout, with plenty of storage area. I also appreciate that the directors are not pushy to get my folk's into memory care.
