We thought Benton House of St. Johns was just average. We were looking for exceptional for our loved one.

They have long hallways here. There isn't much interactions between the residents. The apartments were smaller than we wanted.

We picked this facility because they have a beautiful indoor heated pool. It has not been open since they moved in because the heater does not work which stinks because that was the main thing on our list. When we ask they cannot give us a straight answer on when it will be fixed.

I toured Benton House and did not care for the facility. It seemed crowded and looked more institutional.

Building needs work. Need staff to keep it clean. Been here 11 years. Stare are hard workers.

Do not go. This community is expensive and the care does not match. My loved one sat in his room majority of the time and when he was out with the other residents there weren't any activities. They would just kind of sit in the area and wonder around. My father ended up falling and ended up with a wound on his rib and his arm. I would not recommend this community especially for the price. The administration is very nice until after everything was signed and then they weren't around much and disappeared. They seemed to not have time for us anymore.

It's a good place. I wouldn't want to move my loved one at this point. She's getting used to everything. But they're not getting her in the shower and changing her sheets as often as they said they would. That's been my biggest disappointment. When we addressed it with them they said they would take care of it, but it hasn't changed yet. The common areas are kept nice, but our loved one's room isn't' cleaned as much as I would like for it to be. They have a good number of activities, and they go on outings a couple of times a week, which seems good considering the Covid situation.

The facility is very nice, and their maintenance of it is adequate. The staff is nice, but they are very inadequately staffed. My complaint was with their poor care of my loved one, and I would not recommend them. They did not have nearly the number of personnel they needed to care for all their residents. When your loved one can't feed themselves, get dressed by themselves, go to the bathroom by themselves, that's not a good situation. They really need to have patients who can do for themselves, and my loved one could not. They accepted him into the facility, and I don't feel like they ever should have with the amount of care that he needed. He declined every day that he was there. And they were not helpful in those last days, even though they said they would be. They were the professionals, and they never even mentioned or recommended hospice, which could have eased those last days. Because of that, it was a terrible ending to his life. He had a couple of very painful bedsores at the end. We had problems with them with long term care insurance. It was just a very bitter experience.

I would say do a little more research if you have the time, and visit places more than once. It would be a good idea to talk to some of the residents as well. I had to make a quicker decision than I would have liked. The qualifications of the nursing staff/CNAs is not the greatest, and the ratio of staff per resident seems low. For the most part, it's a clean facility. My loved one says the food is pretty bad though, and it doesn't look very good either. But they do offer a have a lot of activities.

The staff we met were very impressive. The facility is in need of maintenance and updating.

I would tell others that the one issue we had was that the head of assisted living section seemed to be intense and not very professional. When we went to move my moms stuff out, no one told her we were coming and she got angry at that. If I had to do it over again, this probably would not be my first choice on facilities, but I would tell others to check it out.

The community seems to have an issue with items being misplaced. The staff needs to make sure the resident is changing into clean clothing and that they receive their showers more often than they do. I would recommend this community if you are going to be able to visit often and keep an eye on the care.

The staff members are wonderful, it is a good place we are happy to have our loved one there. The meals are extremely good, but at the moment there are not to many activities for the residents to participate in.

so far not good. I really had high hopes since it’s so nicely kept up on the OUTSIDE, but everything has been good until this point unfortunately. I understand previous tenants aren't their fault but its only 2 days before move-in and apartment was in horrendous condition. I doubt their other apartments look like this, but COVID is still here so why isn’t there a deep standard 3-5 day cleaning procedure after each tenant and not a quick last minute one day half cleaning! Isn’t that required especially now with COVID? At this point I don’t even want to move into this specific unit at all after seeing its previous condition with dirt bacteria and so on from previous tenants. There needs to be a very very deep cleaning done that should take several days! Severely disappointed. I doubt their other apartments are like this. Hopefully things get better. I still have a tiny bit of hope. I will update review if anything improves and if I’m given a better unit.

We were paying level three out four for aid, and after about two to three weeks living there, my loved one had some sun downing issues. Their suggested solution was for us to hire a full-time sitter for her. Based on a wage of $15-16 an hour, 7 days a week, they were essentially saying we want you to double the price for your loved one to stay here. I didn't see that as a feasible option at all. So we ended up moving her out. The day to day staff that dealt with my loved one was great. The administrative staff was okay. I observed meals on several occasions, and it looked like they were lacking in fresh fruits and vegetables.
