The amount they quote you will never be the amount of the bill. There are a lot of add on charges that are not mentioned up front. No matter how silly or insignificant you may think the question is please ask so there are no surprises when the bill arrives. The aids and nurses are great, the front desk help is not aware of anything. They will call that you need to sign or pick up an item,when you arrive no one at the desk has any idea why you are there, several trips to accomplish one thing.

Very nice, residents appear happy, lots of activities, but does not offer more care than assisted living (more like independent ), unit was small for amount of cost, too expensive for budget.

I'm very pleased with Wynwood of Mt. Hood. My dad, not so much. He needs more attention that he's getting. He'd like someone to take his blood pressure more often (they only take it once a month). He thinks they serve chicken too often, but he's a bit of a complainer so I'm not sure how much of it is him and how much is them. He complains about the care but I think he's being taken care of fine. They activities are great - he does like that. There's an exercise class that he goes to. They don't serve alcohol but my dad doesn't drink anymore so that's a non-issue for him. Part of the reason I chose it is becuase there weren't a lot of options for my dad becuase he has some behavior issues. It's expensive - I don't know that I think anything is worth $5000 a month.

We thought Clare Bridge was a really good community and it was very convenient located for our family. The only issues we have had is that we are now getting charges that we did not expect to be getting because we did not need those services before our loved one came to Clare Bridge. There is a charge of about $150 to bring medication in if you do not use their preferred pharmacy. There is another $800 charge if your loved on wears depends. The price we expected to pay was just over $6,000 but with all the add-ons and services we are paying more like $7,000. This is a very exclusive community and is meant for people with a higher budget then others. The do offer outdoor courtyards so the residents can sit and relax.

First off, I think the staff at Edina Park Plaza up and down the line are utmost professionals. Walking into the facility it looks and feels more like a hotel than a senior living/assisted living facility. Strongest points: caring staff, unbelievable food (very important to my dad), willingness to adjust to events and needs as much as allowed (being 'assisted living' there are limitations), they came up with a large amount of furniture to fill the assisted living apartment (relieving us of a huge burden), Weakest points: no 24/7 nurse on site (which we knew going in, but it should be pointed out as a matter of full disclosure), medicare's handcuffs restricting their ability to do a better job for nursing/physical therapy/occupational therapy ((if this was a full-on nursing home, which we were paying 100% for, everything would be there, but since it's 'assisted', they have medicare-based limitations which can be very frustrating). My father needed many months more of physical therapy after having back surgery to repair a fractured vertebra, and we chose this locale after his medicare-covered time at a 'transitional care unit' was cut off (again, another one of medicare's stupid restrictions). He was there for a few weeks and was starting to get in a good rhythm with things overall when he suffered a medical setback (a bladder infection). He was sent back to the hospital for treatment then returned to his post-surgery 'transitional care unit' to get back to the level of things he was at prior to going to Edina. We are hoping that he gets back to that level and can return to Edina for the 3-6 months he will still probably need to get strong enough to return home, and be as close to the level he was at prior to his back injury. Know [removed] I am CONFIDENT that the people at Edina Park Plaza will do everything that they can to aid and assist my dad in his recovery.

While a majority of the residents are kind and welcoming, there are a few bad eggs, who just are not happy.As long as you remain positive and friendly, you will be fine. No matter what senior communities you and/or your family members tour, please develop a serious set of questions to ask your tour guide about the facility you're looking at. Questions concerning safety, security, emergency response time, what are the protocols in different emergencies, the ratio of employees to residents and so forth. If assisted living is what you are looking at, be sure to ask about that ratio of employees to residents in that section, how various emergencies, in AL are handled. Yes, the activities offered to all residents, the shopping trips to well known stores, and transportation to doctor appointments are wonderful perks, especially if you no longer drive, or haven't any other means of transportation. Good luck in your search.

My initial reaction to the management, staff and facility was very positive. The facility is laid out in a well-thought out arrangement. The rooms are spacious. Communication with Operations has not been to the desired level. For example, it was arranged when my loved one would be moved in. Upon arrival, the staff had no idea he/she were coming and were put on their heels, despite his/her room having been prepared previously. My biggest concern is whether they have a collection of caregivers on staff to care for my loved one’s needs. His/her pleas have been put on hold while staff was being located. I’m not sure yet how dedicated they are. Some look like they would rather be anywhere else. TBD if another facility is in a better position to fill our needs. It may very well be the norm in all Memory Care facilities.

Our overall experience at this Portage, Indiana facility has been mixed. On the positive side, the environment is very clean with no odors, and my mother's one-bedroom apartment is a nice size. There is always plenty of parking for guests, and the food is good, though not fantastic. The residents themselves are incredibly friendly and engaging, which creates a welcoming atmosphere. I also cannot say enough good things about the PT and OT personnel—they were absolutely great, highly competent, and completely open to my concerns and suggestions. However, the onboarding and daily communication during our move-in process fell short. The staff is generally friendly, but nobody went out of their way to check on us during the move, and we were never given a tour or a proper introduction to the nurses and staff. While some staff members are wonderful, a few of the nurses and aides could have been a little more engaging when speaking directly to my mother. Furthermore, the facility did a poor job of advising us on activities, and I was told they lack a reliable website or system to check the daily menu and scheduled events. Our biggest hurdle has been in the dining room. The dining staff was not properly educated regarding my mother’s visual and hearing impairments. Despite reminding them several times, we constantly had to repeat that she cannot hear well and needs her food cut up. On the administrative side, the first two invoices were incorrect, requiring me to speak with the business office twice in two months, though they did remedy the issues quickly both times. While the physical space, food, and therapy teams are strong, the facility needs to significantly improve its staff communication, empathy in daily interactions, and transition processes for new residents.

[name removed] provided a lot of information and I liked that she has been at this facility for just a long time. [name removed]also communicated other staff members that had been there for a long length of time. They like families to be involved. Good information on Dementia. Seemed family oriented. An older building. I was concerned about the creek that is close to the facility. Although I asked if they have flooded and the answer was no. My mom would be hesitant about the place since the only time her house was flooded was during Harvey. I fill mom has some PTSD from that flood now. The pricing seemed good. I just didn't see a lot of the residents walking around. Which I understand. Some residents doors were open and that is something my mom would not feel comfortable with. I will say this was my 2nd visit to a facility.

Only 3 months Staff good...a couple not that hot...amount of staff is lacking Food is mixed.. controlled by corporate and budget very tight...does not coincide with printed menu and what shows up on plate.... Portions vary plate to plate Cleanliness is good,3rd room no AC...size normal I guess

I had to cancel the lease. Don't sign the lease quickly. Apartments are small. Otherwise it seemed good.

Every thing pretty good except food and staff is sometimes slow to respond. Got 2 rooms and only $[removed]community fee

The people are very respectful to mom and us when we visit. I'm not around much for activities so can't say anything, food seems to be ok. Room size is good/clean. Can't say she likes it there, she would rather be home which is unfortunate that she can't be left alone. Sure I recommend it

I feel like they're really trying to do a good job, but there is not enough communication between the staff. So sometimes my mom's laundry doesn't get done, or food doesn't get prepared the right way. I think they have a high turnover… So it's not always the same people and again...that's a communication problem.Overall, my mom is happy there and has made friends. I like that they offer different activities for the residents to do like bingo, euchre, wheel of Fortune, and movie days.

The facility is nice, but sometimes had a strong urine smell. The reception and administrative staff are very friendly and kind, but some of the med techs were rude and refused to answer when my mother would push her help button. The food and activities were great. I would recommend this place for normal retirement community care, but I do not recommend for acute medical respite care or for people with complicated medical needs.

Overall, most of the nurses and aides are good, although some are much better than others when it comes to handling the specific needs of memory care residents. Communication is an area that could be improved. I’m not able to speak directly with the caregivers about how he is doing or discuss his needs unless I’m there in person, which is one reason I visit almost every day. More consistent communication with family members would provide greater peace of mind. The facility offers activities, although he is selective about what he attends, and the food is generally okay, though there have been some recent issues. The staff has been helpful overall, but there are occasional frustrations with state regulations that the facility is required to follow. Cleanliness is an ongoing concern and could use more attention. On the positive side, his room is larger than he really needs, but it was the best available option and is situated well for keeping an eye on him. Overall, there are some good aspects to the facility, but communication, cleanliness, and consistency in memory care are areas that could be improved.

I have to say this facility was chaotic. Lots of residents and wheelchairs in the common area, a fight broke out between two residents, one resident was wandering the halls and was lost, there was a bag of trash in the hall and the Director was constantly repositioning furniture and pictures in the halls. The rooms were very small - they showed me rooms people lived in, not models which made me uncomfortable.

Watch the paperwork. It is chaotic and not very well managed. We had given them almost five thousand dollars, we decided against it because of a strong urine smell in the hallway from an incontinent resident they told me did not like to be changed. My husband has alzheimer's and would have wound up in their memory unit, that's why I changed my mind. I wanted him well cared for. We had not taken occupancy and even paid a pet deposit. They said we will get nothing back. A very sharp friend of mine reviewed the lease and wrote a well composed letter And they have agreed to give us twenty four hundred. I know I could win in court , but I am eighty six years old and don't have the stomach for it. The place had a lot of good points, but I could not in good concience recommend Windward.

My mother seems to be doing well at the Court. Her complaints are, no microwave in her apt. Cleaning staff only spends 6 minutes cleaning and if they can skip her, they will. If you are not at dinner by 4:59pm they will make you wait an extremely long time to be served. The dinner time is very deceiving. There is not enough entertainment to keep her interested. She says the movies are terrible and most people walk out. Also the bus only goes to Walmart on a Saturday for 1 hour. She would like more transport to other places. She is independent but does not drive. She would like more entertainment during the week like piano playing. Sorry for the complaints but this is what she tells me on a weekly basis. We are paying $[removed]a month and you would expect a little more than what is offered

There were good and bad aspects, as with most places. The community was clean, and the room size was just fine. The food was okay. Having three meals a day was nice, and they did work to get the residents out of their rooms and into the dining room for meals. This is probably not the place to go if you need extra help. My mother's dementia had rapidly progressed, and she didn't want to eat. I think her mind was not telling her brain to eat, so she would just sit at dinner. I repeatedly asked the staff to feed her, but they would not. I even emailed the director and got corporate involved. They told me they would feed her, but every time I visited, she was sitting at the table with a full plate of food and no caregivers were there. Several caregivers told me they had been instructed not to feed her because she was able to feed herself. It was a constant battle. Every time I complained, I was told they were feeding her, but other residents told me they never did. I watched her lose a significant amount of weight. Would she have passed away anyway? Probably. But I believe she would have lived longer if she had received more assistance with meals. It was sad and difficult to watch. The caregivers were hit or miss, but I think you find that everywhere. They did keep the place clean, and overall it was a relatively friendly place.
