We are fairly happy with it.

We are fairly happy with it. There have been a few little bumps along the way, because it's a new facility. I am fairly pleased with the staff. The food is good, the communication has been very good. There have been quite a few improvements over the last month. Not having a memory center director was a hindrance, but they have remedied that. It's still a little early to determine how that is going to go.

Ask specific questions

Be very specific during your interview re: your need and the assistance you will receive. MENUS example. If you are diabetic but unable to advocate for yourself, the choices are not what we understood they would be. Exercise classes could be organize by ability. Diabetic patients need to move to control sugars.. A more challenging class for those able does not exist. The place is beautiful, the staff attentive and pleasant; just be clear about WHAT assistance andadvocate for it.

Good Value for the Price

My parents stayed at the Isles of Vero Beach on a trial basis so that we could go on vacation. They were so impressed with the facility that they made the decision to go ahead and make their permanent home there. The value for the price is very good since they only require very minimal care.

Originally this is where I wanted to place my Mom, but after my visit I decided on a smaller facility. Currently, Mountview is under construction/re-decorating, plumbing changes and I found the confusion not desirable for my Mom's move. Facility does need updating. I was also concerned that there really wasn't a space for the clients to sit outside except the bench in the front of the facility and a second story patio for those clients with rooms by it and my Mom loves to sit out in the sun.

Big Place

My dad is there and it's good. It's a lot bigger, first of all, so it's more difficult to get care right away. The care there is not as one-on-one and personal as some smaller place. I think they might improve their response time to their patients' needs but because it's so big that might be hard to do.

I didn't think that it was warm. It was a large facility. I didn't like the layout as far as locked down units, I mean you were really locked down. You couldn't even walk around the building. The staff interaction was good. It seems like Elmcroft was a little more expensive, but they don't kick you run out of money. They let you stay where you are an apply for Medicaid.

Frustrating Billing Issues

They're nice people but they could really improve their billing. Their billing system comes through corporate and it's impossible to keep track of what's going on. I've had issues with getting bills late and things not being corrected. It's just been a big mess. We chose Wynwood because they seemed really really nice and the price was lower than things in the Portland area.

Expensive but Good Care

It's very very expensive. We've only been able to pay for her for two months and then we had to have Medicaid kick in. I can't blame them because during the first interview my mom was okay and then all of a sudden she got sick and had to go in there being sick so she couldn't even get her shoes on by herself. They waived the move in fee for me and lowered the price down to what I could afford but the minute she got really sick the cost went up. I was slapped with this huge bill so that kind of screwed things up. The care is pretty good and she seems to be busy most of the time. They do a lot of stuff. They have people come in and sing and visit and do all sorts of things so that's pretty nice.

What a daunting task! I spent a lot of time touring, meeting people and asking questions. But what a nice bunch of people! Moving in was quite a job also. I love the amenities-pool, gym and lots of activities, both mental and physical (and spiritual). I've decided it will take some time to adjust to my new surroundings, but I'm in no hurry Everyone is making my new journey pleasant, Of course, I'll question my decision for a while, but I think that's normal.

Change in management is causing difficulties

The cleanliness seems good, the care is sporadic, they have activities listed, but they don't always have them. They're supposed to have a movie every Sunday and it's happened once, the don't really have a happy hour, they don't have the activities they advertise. It's about every other week we have a problem with something and it's been a month or two with his being in there. The man who was managing the place moved and the lady that did his intake moved so now there's new management. When I first moved in I was ecstatic about the management and everything seemed to match what they said but the management changed and they aren't doing anything they promised. I'm holding my breath, it's been two and a half months and I haven't gotten one bill yet; so I'm not going to do anything until the management gets it's feet wet and well see where we go from there. He's getting his medicine, he's getting cared for, he's okay with the meals so that's okay, I'm holding judgement for now.

Ask many questions

The amount they quote you will never be the amount of the bill. There are a lot of add on charges that are not mentioned up front. No matter how silly or insignificant you may think the question is please ask so there are no surprises when the bill arrives. The aids and nurses are great, the front desk help is not aware of anything. They will call that you need to sign or pick up an item, when you arrive no one at the desk has any idea why you are there, several trips to accomplish one thing.

Very nice, residents appear happy, lots of activities, but does not offer more care than assisted living (more like independent ), unit was small for amount of cost, too expensive for budget.

Expensive, Great Activities

I'm very pleased with Wynwood of Mt. Hood. My dad, not so much. He needs more attention that he's getting. He'd like someone to take his blood pressure more often (they only take it once a month). He thinks they serve chicken too often, but he's a bit of a complainer so I'm not sure how much of it is him and how much is them. He complains about the care but I think he's being taken care of fine. They activities are great - he does like that. There's an exercise class that he goes to. They don't serve alcohol but my dad doesn't drink anymore so that's a non-issue for him. Part of the reason I chose it is becuase there weren't a lot of options for my dad becuase he has some behavior issues. It's expensive - I don't know that I think anything is worth $5000 a month.

Exclussive Community

We thought Clare Bridge was a really good community and it was very convenient located for our family. The only issues we have had is that we are now getting charges that we did not expect to be getting because we did not need those services before our loved one came to Clare Bridge. There is a charge of about $150 to bring medication in if you do not use their preferred pharmacy. There is another $800 charge if your loved on wears depends. The price we expected to pay was just over $6,000 but with all the add-ons and services we are paying more like $7,000. This is a very exclusive community and is meant for people with a higher budget then others. The do offer outdoor courtyards so the residents can sit and relax.

First off, I think the staff at Edina Park Plaza up and down the line are utmost professionals. Walking into the facility it looks and feels more like a hotel than a senior living/assisted living facility. Strongest points: caring staff, unbelievable food (very important to my dad), willingness to adjust to events and needs as much as allowed (being 'assisted living' there are limitations), they came up with a large amount of furniture to fill the assisted living apartment (relieving us of a huge burden), Weakest points: no 24/7 nurse on site (which we knew going in, but it should be pointed out as a matter of full disclosure), medicare's handcuffs restricting their ability to do a better job for nursing/physical therapy/occupational therapy ((if this was a full-on nursing home, which we were paying 100% for, everything would be there, but since it's 'assisted', they have medicare-based limitations which can be very frustrating). My father needed many months more of physical therapy after having back surgery to repair a fractured vertebra, and we chose this locale after his medicare-covered time at a 'transitional care unit' was cut off (again, another one of medicare's stupid restrictions). He was there for a few weeks and was starting to get in a good rhythm with things overall when he suffered a medical setback (a bladder infection). He was sent back to the hospital for treatment then returned to his post-surgery 'transitional care unit' to get back to the level of things he was at prior to going to Edina. We are hoping that he gets back to that level and can return to Edina for the 3-6 months he will still probably need to get strong enough to return home, and be as close to the level he was at prior to his back injury. Know [removed] I am CONFIDENT that the people at Edina Park Plaza will do everything that they can to aid and assist my dad in his recovery.
