Review for The Pearl Senior Living

The staff is changing constantly. The new owners completely remodeled the facility and then asking for donations so they could have a staff holiday party. They are also building a new facility in the empty lot adjacent to the building.

Took a tour, seems like quite a few residents compared to how many staff I seen. From the outside the building looks pretty decent but inside needs renovating. Less than impressed with the food. But the area is nice if you're into that kinda thing

My tour review

We did not like this community, it was very expensive, extremely expensive and they did not seem like they had enough staff. The people were very nice but they didn't have enough staff and it was dark and gloomy. It did not seem like a good place for the spirit.

not recommend

I would not recommend the is community. My father contracted Covid in this facility and was not allowed back in after going to the hospital. They needed to focus on the cleanliness in the bathrooms when cleaned they were not cleaned good enough. I am extremely unhappy with this facility because there are some staff that are unprofessional

Not good care

It is a very clean place much like a hotel chain but the staff do not take the medical needs of the resident serious. My father in law was in memory care and they wanted 24 hour a day one of ones for him . They had a high staff turnover which took away from activities for the residents resulting in no activities. I would not recommend this community to other families.

We were not happy with this community. The staff did not have breakfast for the residents and they have only offed a donut and we did not like that they have no activity director and we wanted to have my mom to be able to have activities. They seem to have a lot of turns over on the staff. We liked that the community was clean. We are not able to recommend this community to others and feel that they need a lot of improvements.

Community Needs Improvement!!

The Brookdale Longview has not met my expectations. My mother has been there a little over 6 weeks and for the first 4 weeks the staff did not change her sheets, my mother was sleeping on dirty sheets. When they finally changed her sheets they did not put a top sheet for the first night on her bed. She was left with a scratchy cover all night. The staff also does not change her clothes very often which i am not happy with at all. The community offers a variety of meals which look pretty good. Overall i don't feel i would recommenced this place to a fiend.

fooled

I toured this facility personally, and was impressed by the staff, the décor, and the smell of lunch!! I was even told by the staff how they had a professional chef who was very keen about providing rewarding meals. However, shortly after my dad moved in, the staff showed how they were actually pretty rude and disinterested. At meal times, the residents were seated over half an hour before they actually received their food, and the meals were very small. I never saw the floor clean that was between the kitchen and the dining room; my shoes stuck every time I walked on it. The carpeting throughout never seemed to be vacuumed; the bathrooms were always dirty; and we noticed more and more things that needed paint, repair, or replacing. They were also supposed to clean each residents' room, yet my dad's room always had a dirty bathroom and needed vacuuming. Residents were supposed to be on a schedule to receive aid showering, yet my dad received showers according to no set schedule, and sometimes in a big rush first thing in the morning. My dad was charged $1,000 a month for personal care, yet he couldn't get any physical therapy unless ordered by his physician and paid for by his own insurance. My dad was also charged for over-the-counter medicines that he didn't receive, such as cough syrup and Tylenol. It is our belief that they were stocking their medicine cabinet at residents' expense, whether they themselves received the medications or not. My dad didn't even realize the charges; I found them on the statement from the pharmacy the facility uses. My dad confronted them about this, and they said he had to contact the pharmacy; I contacted the pharmacy and was told it was out of their hands since the medicines already went to the facility! I doubt other residents are even aware of this practice, or have family members looking into it. My dad also could not go outside on his own, since the thresholds of all the doors leading to the courtyard were impossible to go over in a wheelchair. I had a very hard time getting him to the courtyard when I was pushing his wheelchair, and even needed assistance from a fellow visitor. Automatic opening doors would have been a great feature, as well, since residents are busy pushing their wheelchairs or walkers, and can't handle a heavy door at the same time. So for the size of the room, which is for two people, the size and delay of meals, the lack of interest in keeping up with repairs and housekeeping, and minimal personal care, I feel it is greatly overpriced. In fact I would not want my dad to return here, regardless of price.

Experience at The Pearl

My loved one is currently a resident at The Pearl Senior Living and our experience has been terrible! I will be moving my loved one after the first of the year. There is lack of communication with the residents and their caregivers/family. The medication management is really lacking. Also, they had to call the ambulance for my loved one and I wasn't notified. I still have not been notified.

Tour experience

I did not have a good tour experience with Inspired Living at Lewisville. My loved one had diabetes and I had told them this beforehand. When I showed up for the tour and was talking with them they explained to me that they did not have the nursing staff to be able to handle anyone with diabetes. It was a waste of time.

Heartbreaking Experience, Even the Staff Don’t Recommend

My mom had Alzheimer’s and Fountain Brook was a convenient drive for my brother and it seemed reputable each time I visited. A nurse gave my mom a pre-entry exam and determined she was a candidate for Memory Care. We admitted her and moved her in but right away, I found the head nurse in charge at the facility to be less than truthful and forthcoming about the treatment plan and care of my mother. The general manager was more concerned about numbers and occupancy percentage rather than the patient care. The memory care staff were a miserable lot from top to bottom. They weren’t happy if the family wasn’t there doing most of the care giving. They were rude and often unresponsive when I asked a question or for help. Fountain Brooke is not adequately staffed and there is not a sense of cohesiveness amongst staff and management. They did nothing to make my mothers stay a pleasant one, it seemed they didn’t want to be bothered. The physicians were not interested in patients.

a horrible experience

Would not recommend the is community. My father contracted Covid in this facility and was not allowed back in after going to the hospital. He was moved to a new facility but was left in the hospital for 16 days. We were unable to visit him during this time and his wedding band was missing when he passed. He was not in the facility for the month of July but they tried to charge us for the month. The didn’t even acknowledge my father passed away They needed to focus on the cleanliness in the bathrooms when cleaned they were not cleaned well enough. They will not allow us to move his belongings out of the facility unless hiring professionals. When we did get to move his stuff out there were a lot of things missing and broken including very personal items. I am extremely unhappy with this facility. The director was also very unprofessional.

I toured this community for my loved one, and I immediately knew it would not be a good fit for us. I looked at reviews online first, and they weren't very good. It as also more expensive than some other communities I'd seen, and when I walked in, a woman near the door kept yelling out to me "help me, help me!" I was quite uncomfortable with that, so I knew that was not a place I'd put my loved one.

Horrible experience. Would not send my dog there.

They were horrible. They tell you great things when trying to get you there. The reviews I saw online were glowing. They must have paid somebody to say those things. My family member was only there for not quite two months before I pulled him out. Corporate took over at one point because they had so many problems. The laundry room was filthy. My family member's floor in his room was so dirty that the Swiffer pad would be black after cleaning just a small section myself. They didn't give him his medication on time. The agency nurse walked out on a Saturday night, so the next day, his medication which has to be administered by a nurse, was not administered . Nobody checked on him that day. When I got there at 5 pm, he was in a frozen state, half on the bed half off, hIs mouth was all dry, and his incontinence products were sopping wet. I feel like I was lied to and duped.

The Memory Unit & Director of the facility are horrible!!

If your looking for a facility for a loved one that has mild to medium stage Alzheimers/Dementia please do NOT place them at FountainBrook Assisted Living & Memory Support!! The facility is nice but the level of care in the memory unit is substandard at best. I stayed with my mom for the first week and after voicing my concerns to the memory unit director ..who I rarely saw in the memory unit, and one other manager I took my mom back home..losing every bit of the $5,000+ that was paid...only after I removed her was I informed that a written 30 day notice was required to receive any money back. Apparently this was included in the fine print of their “contract”. When I attempted to talk to the Director he was very harsh, insensitive and rude. This is what I observed while staying with my mom: 1) Understaffed-the ratio of caregiver to resident is NOT adequate for the level of services needed. Not once did anyone help my mom shower, dress or clean her room during the time we were there. (The bathroom was cleaned once) It was very disturbing to my mom when we would go out to the memory unit dining area to eat breakfast and many of the residents were asleep with their heads laying on the table with often only one staff available to serve all the residents. Rather than allowing residents to eat after they naturally wake up (since many are up during the night) they are placed at the tables at 7:00-7:30 and immediately go back to sleep. At one point one resident was choking so badly with no medical aids around to help. 2) Activities and social stimulation was nonexistent in the memory unit. What I observed was that many residents in wheelchairs would be placed in the TV room after breakfast and left until the next meal and shuffled there again after lunch. Because there were no activities in the memory unit I would take my mom over to the “Assisted Living” area and attend several of the activities that they had. The only positives that I can list for Fountain Brook Assisted Living & Memory Support are that the facilities are nice and the food is good. I have never taken the time to write an on-line review, however I feel so strongly that if my review could prevent someone from making the same mistake I made when I decided to place my mom at the Memory Unit at Fountain Brooke Assisted Living & Memory Support then it will be worth it.

Find Another Place

If you care about the person you are seeking a place for, avoid this place. They put on a nice show to sell you on it but it is horrible. Short staffed and no real Assisted Living in my opinion. Roach infested rooms with the stench of urine. Cleaning is not on their priority list. They might empty your trash, but don't wash the trash cans. The toilets are stained as well as the showers. Vacuuming goes around and never under anything, when they vacuum. Residents may have to push their help button multiple times to get help to their room and in some cases call 911 to get help. On the weekends and evenings, there are no staff members to be found. The only true, caring person is Rhonda, in my opinion. [removed] The food is gross and served cold if you are sick and need a meal brought to your room. [name removed], the charge nurse, has a bad attitude about everything. The people who work here need training and training and more training. Personal problems should not be shared with residents and who knows how much [removed] goes on by the employees. It is very sad to think these people will care for your loved one and find out how bad they are. When we moved my parent out, the director didn't even know her name!!!! With 56ish residents, there is no excuse for that. The bus is in poor condition and they still refuse to repair it, even though it has had numerous problems. The AC on it rarely works and the poor girl who drives it is expected to manually crank the lift for each individual. [removed] The activities director man is very kind hearted and he tries hard so he is not to blame. [removed] I could go on but I think by now you have already marked them off your list. I hope so.
