We toured Grand Villa of Clearwater during our search for Independent Living for our loved one. It was a hard sell for us. There seemed to be no integrity given to the residents, ie: referring to the residents as 'them.'

Apparently the food served is good. There are LOTS of activities. The individual rooms are updated and clean. There is an equal balance of men and women. Negative: common areas desperately need updating/sense of organization. They don't keep them clean. It appears they never vacuum the floor. Only one common area and it doesn't accommodate enough people for popular activities. There is only one small, very slow elevator on the assisted side. Parking/ drop off at entrance only able to fit the resident transport bus. My loved one has adjusted and made friends. It's not all bad. There are plenty of upbeat residents who "still have life in them" which contrasts to other places I visited where the residents were all grumpy and complaining. I know that sounds unkind to say but it makes a difference. The residents are active and don't stay in their rooms all day, so they use that space (which is really good). My loved one is very comfortable here, it is just housekeeping that needs to step up.

They need to improve on security. We picked this community, because we were in a time crunch and needed something right away, and it seemed like a fine facility.

The place looked good. It was freshly painted, and I smelled no bad smells. A lot of the residents I saw were in wheelchairs, but they were all smiling and getting around and moving. They seemed content. But Grand Villa's policies for admitting residents really leave a lot to be desired. They never gave my loved one an evaluation, and when it came time to move in, it turned out he never would have gotten accepted there anyway. They did not give my my money back until I brought a lawyer into the situation. The staff is friendly. They were smiling even when giving me the business. But their dealings are shady.

My mom pays over $5000 a month to reside here and yet Brentwood has the audacity to charge $10 per guest to join her for lunch. This is so not right asking her guest to pay $10. especially a family member. my son is disabled and he visits grandma now he is having a hard time doing so cause the server made him feel bad cause he did not have $10 so he went without eating. I wish we could do something to make you understand how ridiculous this new policy is. It is not sitting well with your residents either.

Currently we are very frustrated. Staff have been unresponsive to taking care of issues we are having such as the lock on the door. My loved one was in rehab, while she was there I came and removed her medication. When I returned the medication it was put in the closet in the box. The medications are now missing. I reached out to the manager and I have not gotten a call back. She is happy here, it is clean and the food is good. She also enjoys the activities. The follow through from the staff is just not there.

They were having disgruntled employee problems when mom was there. It was definitely palpable the "dark cloud" I felt in there. My mom fell and her favorite glasses were destroyed while she stayed there, and her room needed sweeping. Not too impressed with Grand Villa.

I went to go speak with the coordinator because I am having a problem getting my mom on Medicaid, and they do not seem to care and are not helping me out at all. They said if we cannot get it figured out, she will have to move out. I am not paying the bill and Instead of saying anything they took money out of my moms account and her account is negative. They did this when we first moved in as well, we thought it was a mistake but it was not.

The grounds were not well kept. Parking was an issue. The rooms were not as nice, and it needs to be remodeled.

We toured with The Pineapple House at Sapphire Lakes. The person who was giving us the tour was not as friendly or helpful as other places we had visited. They did not find a transport chair for my loved one before the tour which she needed to be able to get around. It was just not the right fit.

If you are on the last seating for your meals, you will not get what is on the menu because they have run out from the first seating. They need to provide and prepared for all their residents. My mother has to wait for the staff to bring her down for her meals and is one of the last ones to get taken back to her room. They definitely need to get more help especially on the weekend

Assisted living/Memory care. This is a new and beautiful place, wonderfully designed and seasonally decorated. Holidays are really celebrated here! There are daily activities and it appears that residents are encouraged to participate. Our own experience was that genuine caring and individual interest is lacking. Calls went unanswered; information was hard to get and when finally received, generic and impersonal. They did not know my loved one. All of the basic steps were done and the residents were clean and safe. After that, they seemed no more personal to the staff than the furniture. This was not my first experience with memory care and I understand the challenges the staff faces. However, I do know that genuine caring is possible - maybe not every staff member or not every day, but someone, some of the time. Never got that feeling at Pineapple House. It was not a good experience for my family.

Don't go. There are very disorganized. The staff is very new. We are paying hundreds a month to have the staff bring our loved her medications and sometimes they don't show up. This is a constant issue. They changed their medication times, then try to make the residents get in a line in the dining room to get their medicine at one time. My loved one is not physically able to walk that far daily. The healthcare staff is trying hard and are great. Upper management is throwing out random rules the healthcare staff have no idea of half the time.

There are good and bad things about all of these assisted living homes. There are times that I've not been really excited about things that have gone on here at Pineapple House. But overall it's okay. They do keep it very clean. I've never seen any problems with that. I've just been a little disappointed that some of the staff aren't friendlier. I have checked in with other places, and I think Pineapple House is a good value for the cost. I just haven't been really happy with some of the people who work there. They just don't care for my loved one in the way I wish that they would, with a good attitude.

We liked the facility but the room sizes were much smaller than some others we looked into and it was also more expensive.

They had a big room, but no separate bedroom for my loved one.

They have absolutely no variation for people who have dietary restrictions, they do not accommodate my mother at all. They are supposed to have memory care activities and they do not have those either. Memory care overall has no real structure and a lot of time staff do not know what is going on and there is not a lot of communication.

There was confusion relating to my appt. I had to wait 20 minutes while [name removed] finished another tour. The facility is clean but somewhat old. [name removed] did not know when it was built. New flooring was being put in Memory Care so that restricted my viewing of an actual room. Only saw a model which of course was nice. The public area was also under remodel so I saw it from a distance. [name removed] gave me all the details relating to costs and floor plans. Memory care is on 2 floors so residents have to be escorted to the second floor. Excellent security in place with calling cords near beds and in bathrooms. Motion detectors advise staff of patients getting out of bed and they are to check on those patients. They have 49 memory care patients and are mostly full. [name removed] didn't know how many rooms there were. Waiting list requires $2,000 deposit that is refundable and goes to the intial $2,000 cost to start residency. Furniture is provided. Includes only a twin bed. but residents cannot provide their own bed. This is a problem for us as mom occasionally falls out of a queen bed and has slept on one for over 50 years. This will not likely be our choice but is early in the search.

The community is extremely clean, and the staff members with exception of two individuals are phenomenal. The activities director is very friendly and outgoing, but even will everyone being fully vaccinated we are still required to wear masks which is very frustration. Also the meals, the fish they serve is perfect, the breakfast they serve is perfect they will make you anything you want. However, they serve sandwiches every single day for supper without exception, and the other food they serve is vile especially when it comes to meat. It also is an older population but the residents are still very friendly.
