This review is strictly for the memory care unit at The Colonnade. The scores I think would be much higher if she had been in assisted living as planned. [name removed] and head of nursing services were excellent as was [name removed].

Needs Improvement

My loved one wasn't happy here, as there were times my loved one's trash or laundry wasn't being pick up. The food wasn't as good as my loved one would have hoped for. There could have been more attention to detail in preparing the menu. The staff communication was good with the family and our loved one when we had questions.

Do Not Go There

My husband was at the Colonnade because he has dementia and could not be left alone at home. I had gone to the hospital, was sent to rehab where I got COVID, went back to the hospital, then to a lock-down COVID ward, then back to the first rehab "to be discharged". When I got there, they wouldn't let me leave. I sat in the lobby for two days to put pressure on them to sign the papers so that I could leave. During this, the absolute worst month and a half of my life, I was dehumanized, screamed at by CNA's (they screamed at everyone), treated as less than human, left in a room with no call button (I was told by the CNA and the nurse to "yell"), and a toilet that had overflown in the morning and the refuse on the floor was never cleaned up. This is the tip of the iceberg of the horror that was my life during that time. This is the reason why I "failed to give the Colonnade 30-days notice" that [name removed] was leaving. It never crossed my mind. I was trying to survive. They have just notified me that I owe them [price removed]. They are making us pay until [date removed] even though we left the Colonnade on [date removed]. They are totally unreasonable. I am perfectly willing to pay for the time that we were there, but not for the time that we were in our own home. I would tell others, "don't go there". They are unfriendly, the upper-staff were very unfriendly and condescending. When I was leaving I was waiting for my ride with wheelchair transport. The director, [name removed], came by and grabbed the footrest off of the wheelchair I was in. It was their wheelchair, but I was waiting to transition into the transport wheelchair. He came by as if I was a thief in the night trying to steal it. He didn't say a word, he just snatched them in a huff. I was so mad, and I told him so in an email. He apologized, but there was no need for that as I was not stealing it. If he would have just asked me, I would have explained that I was waiting for the other wheelchair. They're also trying to make us pay for the time that we were not there and I'm upset about that too. Again, I was in a lock-down Covid ward and I had several risk factors. They wanted me to give a 30-days notice that [name removed] was leaving The Colonnade, and that wasn't the upmost thing on my mind, as I was being dehumanized and receiving the worst treatment. Excuse me if was not thinking about making a phone call during that time. That was upper management, and I have nothing good to say about them. That is what I think about the Colonnade at Beckett Lake.

do not go there unless you are independent or need basic assistance

It is a great place if your are more on the basic assisted living scale - if you are able to walk places yourself or even wheel yourself in a wheel chair, but if you are in the in between range the quality of care is inconsistent. Sometimes the care was great and other times not so much and the response time could take anywhere between 5 minutes to 4 hours.

Staff is Friendly, Food Is Good, and Pull Cord Not Sufficient

The staff are friendly and the food is good. My biggest concern is that the community is understaffed due to COVID and the way the employment is right now. The community still uses a pull cord and it is a concern, as it can be hard to have my loved one request assistance if they fall. Air went out in my loved one's room, and this was a concern as it was not address immediately. Overall my loved one seems happy here.

Overall a good community, but communication could be improved

The food sometimes arrive a little cold, they do feed you a lot and sometimes its good but other times not so good. The activities are still pretty limited due to the restrictions, and our biggest issue would be the communication. There is no communication with the management and the families. The driver who takes the residents to and from different place is absolutely awesome.

Nice assisted living facility

Heritage is a very attractive and welcoming community. The staff are very friendly. Mom only stayed one month as she recovered from prior accident and was able to return home. She and her family were very disappointed in the activities offered and opportunities to socialize. Initially the food service was good but this declined significantly near the end of her stay.

Memory Care Unit is well laid out. Sitting/dining area was a bit too dark & and cool. Roomy bathrooms w/black toilet seats for better visibility (great idea). Bedrooms have wardrobes instead of closets. It was lunchtime but not enough visible staff for my comfort. Residents provided w/off-site activities.

We took a tour of this community. The people have been great and they did answer all our questions. The only thing that turned me off was that the residents were all sitting in front of the t.v. not doing anything else. I wanted a more active community for my loved one.

Disappointed

Trash is not emptied unless I ask for it. Room has not been cleaned. Remote for TV missing. ( Reappears the next day ... miraculously. ) Boxed phone is missing. My sister had to give her a shower.(I am paying extra for Becket Lake to shower her) Clothes were not washed until I asked for it late Friday evening when I brought her back from a day out,

Rent and fees much higher than other communities we visited with living spaces considerably smaller and more compact. Little room for personal items. Does not allow small refrigerators or microwaves. Has more of an institutional feel rather than a homey feeling. Not on our short list.

So Far A Good Experience

My father was doing good here at this facility, but he has since had to check into the hospital. When he gets better he will be returning to this community. It is a nice and clean community, they do a good job with the cleanliness. There aren't many activities offered in the memory care portion of the community, but there are activities offered on the assisted living side. He was pleased with the food. Everybody has been courteous and kind. So far everything is well.
