My experience with Brookdale is very mixed. I'm pretty upset right now with all the charges being billed to me right now. We have discussed the matter and I thought it was taken care of, only to receive another bill of twice as much. In the beginning everyone was so nice and accommodating, however once we got it in, not so much! We are going to discuss this billing matter tomorrow and if not straightened out we will have to place my mom in another facility.

They have been pretty helpful and everyone on the staff is friendly. I have not heard any complaints from my loved ones about the quality of the meals that are served. The value for the money is pretty good - they really helped us out there.

The residents were not very nice or friendly. They definitely had their cliques. The food was very inconsistent and tasteless - my loved one hated it. The hallways were always wet because they were being cleaned. And then there were always big large fans in the hallways to dry everything out, which was annoying. There were two ladies at the front desk - one was lovely, and one was awful. When things went wrong with my loved one, they would call and let me know, but they left it up to me to dial 911.

I am only going off of what I hear from her daily. They were just bought out by Atria so I know they are going through a transition period. I am comfortable with her being here and I know that she is safe, fed and well taken care of. She has not been the biggest fan of the food served. If I am going off of what I have seen personally, I would recommend Holiday Sterling Court to other families.

The integration and food was better here than another community. The outside of the community wasn't as tidy as my loved one would've liked.

The staff is really amazing at Sterling Court. When we have had some concerns (like with housekeeping) and we talked to management and they made improvements but it seems to be going downhill again. There has been quite a bit of turnover so we are still addressing some of these things. They are definitely working on improving these concerns. Dad and [name removed] love the community and the people that are here. They appreciate that they are being listened to and they are happy.

I do think that their memory care area is very small, so it does make it hard for new people to interact with other residents because they are not all on the same level of care.

We chose Las Palmas because of the proximity to my house, the space that the cottages provided, and the location is very convenient and close to a lot of places with a pretty surrounding area. The sales person was the nicest and most attentive out of the places that we looked into. She was warm and friendly from the second that we walked in here. The food is not good at all, the variety on the menu is not very healthy. They serve things like hot dogs, fries, sandwiches, etc. It would be better if they provided healthier options for the residents. They have a lot of options for activities available and they have a swimming pool which is very nice. I would recommend to others looking with the caveat about the food.

My loved one says it's "okay," and feels like some of the services are not as readily available as advertised. But you can access those services by contacting the appropriate person. She seems to have found her way around really well. She has no complaints about cleanliness. They have someone available to provide transportation at an extra cost if you need it, and she's figured out how to order food from Publix. There's been some staff turnover. They had a really good handyman who had some health issues and had to leave, and they haven't found a replacement for the manger either. They haven't been having some of the activities because they're short-staffed. She really liked the exercise class when they were offering it. My loved one likes the breakfasts, but overall thinks they have too many soft, starchy foods and not enough fresh foods. She's sent me pictures of her living quarters, and the apartments are like studio apartments. You walk in and there's a sink and a refrigerator and cabinets along one side, and then areas for sleeping and living , and a little balcony. She has a bathroom and a closet as well. It's as much as she needs. For just her, she doesn't need anything more than that. And I think she's doing fine and has settled in very well.

I would suggest placing your loved one here. This seems to be more hospitable here than some other communities. The staff communication is good with the families.

We chose Brookedale at the time because of the location. She is in the one smallest room on the first floor because that is all that was available, but it is good for her needs. They do seem short staffed quite a bit, but everyone has been very nice and helpful. Overall. I would recommend depending on what you are looking for. It is very reasonably priced compared to others we looked into.

Food is generally good and tasty, good variety, no complaints. I have complained in the past about food preparation. The cook has responded favorably. the general manager [name removed] is doing a very good job. Friendly, fits in well with the renters and is very sincere. I Am 98 years of age.

We chose Elmcroft of York because it was recommended to my brother. He chose Elmcroft because he tried the food and thought it was good so he didn't look anywhere else. The room sizes here were adequate for his needs. I would want others to know when looking into the facility that we had an issue with them because they did not evaluate him correctly, they could not care for him adequately and I think he needed nursing instead of assisted living. They should not have taken him in the first place.

Moderately priced... we moved mom in with a lot of apprehension due to Covid. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. They are following all the precautions to keep everyone safe and although is sometimes difficult we understand is for her safety. She's enjoying the food and people checked on her regularly during the quarantine period. We are happy for now.

The staff are great and friendly. The problem is accessing the building. One has to ring the buzzer & then wait for the (understaffed) staff to answer, then come to the door and put the code in before you can enter. This sometimes takes 5-10 minutes depending on if they’re busy or even hear it. It’s not fair to the staff to disrupt their duties to do this. I’m there every day and it’s getting old! I’m told the door code cannot be given out to other than staff. This makes no sense to me because the purpose is security for the confused/senile dementia clients in, not to keep visitors out. The other thing is the meals are not very accommodating to medical problems like diabetes or heart problems. The staff does what they can but a little health appropriate meal planning seems to be needed. Otherwise affordable, safe & caring staff facility. Would like to see more staff available.

There seem t be great activities ad short offsite trips for lunch or shopping. Facility is rather large an you don't see many residents about other than at the dining room. I don't think this would be the place for a gregarious person, as I seems very quiet. My Moth has only been thee for several weeks, so our exposure is limited. Mom say the staff is very friendly and nice, but the residents are not as friendly. Hopefully she just needs more time to assimilate.

I love the room that we picked out for mom. She is very comfortable. The patio is a wonderful extra for her and the building itself is quite lovely. The level of activity is disappointing...there are very few activities that encourage any of the occupants to move around. Many of the activities are posted in the monthly news but never actually come to pass. Many of the activities are only board games and table games. The dining experience for each meal is very long and often mom leaves without eating because the food is not tasty. I often supplement her meals.

When we were looking for a suitable place for our loved one, we were concerned with cost, care, access to transportation, and a welcoming environment. Independent Court Hyattsville did the best job of meeting those criteria. Budget concerns were a big factor--Independence Court is less costly than most we looked at that had the needed services. The facility is big enough to handle the medical care issues we were concerned about. The food is good. The activities are easily adequate--enough to keep people socialized and out of their rooms if they desire. Metro Access is available, and the facility is close to a dialysis center--critical in our case. The housekeeping in the room is a little disappointing, as is the fact that a favorite personal blanket and some linens have disappeared after being taken to the laundry. Overall, we think this was a good choice for our needs.

Marion Woods is the perfect place for my mom. She is relieved of hone ownership and all that goes with that. She now has more friends and activities to keep her busy. She loves the food and not having to cook anymore. Our family loves knowing she is in a safe place where the staff makes the effort to know and care for all the residents.

Staff is friendly. Difficult to get maintenance to fix temperature problem. Clothes get mixed up.
