My mother likes it there but not all activities take place as offered. Staff is very friendly!

My mother and I enjoyed our tour of this community. The staff where very friendly and had lots of great information to give us about there facility. Everything seemed very well maintained and was kept nice and clean for all of the residents. They had a spacious common and dinning room area that seemed to fit everyone comfortably. My mom just did not like that this was a multilevel complex.

The move-in was easy, the staff friendly and helpful, the studio is spacious, and the nurses are knowledgable, understanding and adaptable. Our big complaint is the payment method. Seems outdated. Dropping off a check to the front office must then be shipped to the district office which takes 7-10 days to process. By then you may be charged a late fee. Seems like the payment should be posted on-site then ship the check for deposit. We signed up for autopay but that takes over 30 days to initiate. We had to pay by phone for fear of a hefty late fee.

When I went into the Saddle Brook, my reception was very cordial. When the tour guide took me into the lobby, I noticed many of the residents were in their wheelchairs asleep. I told the tour guide that if my husband saw the lack of activity, he would not want to move in. He said they could make sure that there were not any residents in the lobby when my husband came to look, but that made me a little bit uncomfortable. Also, one of the carpets in the hallways smelled like urine. When I spoke to friends, one mentioned that they had moved from Saddle Brook, but I did not ask why. The employees were extremely nice, but it would not have been a good fit for my husband.

The place was fine except it was to expensive. The people were friendly and the staffed seemed nice. The tour went well. There was really nothing wrong with the place, but nothing stood out to us. We just didn't think that it was a good fit for us.

It is kept very clean and nice throughout. They offer a variety of meals for the residents to enjoy. The community offers a wide range of activities for the residents to participate in. There was some miscommunication when we signed up with the community. There were things we were promised that were not delivered. The accounting department is impossible to get a hold of and they have made several errors.

I have eaten with my mom several times and the service and food quality are not very good. I feel like the staff does not go above and beyond, they do only what is required. The care staff doesn't seem to be able to ascertain the needs of my mother.

I am very happy at this community and everything is going very well for me here. I really like this place because it is very clean here, my room is nice and big. They have been good to me and are caring for me very well. I like the activities they offer and the food is pretty good. They listen to me and that is what is important. This is a nice community to come take a look it.

There are pros and cons. I like the facility it's kept clean, the staff seems to be very caring. The cons, are mom is complaining about cold food, timing of medications and showers being off schedule. Sometimes the information in the computer can be a little off, so if there is a worker that isn't as familiar, there will be a discrepancy in scheduling. She raves about the food 80% of the time, and the other 20% isn't as good.

After taking some time to help a friend, we found Brookdale for her. I haven't had a chance to fully experience the community but from what I've seen it is a very nice place. The staff is very friendly and welcoming when I've gone to visit her. I would recommend it to someone who is still looking to live a free independent lifestyle as a senior.

We are no longer there at the Brookdale Pecan Park because my loved one needed more help than they were able to provide and also they did not have any more room in their memory care unit for her to stay.

The people are very friendly at Brookdale West University. They seem to have a very good set up as far as looking out for her. They have a lot of things to keep the residents busy. They could improve on the food. It is the worst I have ever tasted. This really surprised me. The cook himself came out and talked us when I was visiting and was telling us all about his training. It was like institution food must have been 50 years ago. My sister has found out that salt is absolutely poison for her also. So she is really going to have a tough time eating there. I like the location. She close to a lot important things. She knows some of the residents there that she knew before she even moved in. I think this facility is going to be a really good place for her.

My husband and viewed many facilities and decided upon Horizon Bay. The staff is caring and the meals are good.

At Horizon Bay Austin the community is small enough that people can find their way around easy. The people here are so friendly and open. This is a really big positive. I am extremely satisfied. The staff is so attentive to everyone's needs here.

People are great but generally very old. Food is great, portions are small. Management is not the greatest.

We have moved into Brookdale Clear Lake as a second home.

At first it took a lot of time to get to know the care givers that take care of mom. Seemed we worked well with the ones we got to know and let them know what we expected, or kindly asked them to do things we expected that mom needs help with. The trouble was the change out, get one person doing what we expected then would be a change out of the help and information was not either passed on or the new caregiver was not as good with getting mom to do things like showing, getting out of bed. The more you get to know the individual caregivers the easier it gets, The evening/night shift we are still working on because its hard to be there at that time. Sometimes it felt like management did not follow through and works best if we talked to caregivers ourselves, let them know how we got mom to do the things she needs to do.

They are doing a very good job. The only concern that we have had is getting converted to the physician, and getting medication as quickly as she needs them. The billing is very confusing, we have had to talk to the business office twice. Patient care, and the people that take care of the residents are wonderful people, good as gold. The memory care director is phenomenal. But the business side of it, has been very frustrating. They are serving the same kind of food all the time, and it isn't usually what she likes, and they said that they would cater it to her likes a little, and they don't. They have different kinds of activities, but in the memory care I don't see as much. It is very clean. Claire the memory care director is what made us choose to come here. She is phenomenal and we felt an immediate connection to her. They have them all together, the memory care residents, they aren't just shoved off into a category. We also really liked the location too, and the ability to visit easily.

They are really good at communicating to me and keeping me updated on how mom is doing. It is a very lovely clean facility, very nicely decorated. The staff all has a friendly demeanor. There are, however, a few things that need to be improved. Their laundry service, for one, is terrible. I keep losing stuff and getting stuff that doesn't belong to my mom. Yesterday I went to go pick up some of her laundry myself and a lot of her stuff is just gone, and I don't know where they are. Also, I signed a contract to lock in a certain rate, yet before I paid for the first month I get a letter in the mail that the rate is going up. That is not right, and I am going to be fighting it. I have heard of another resident that has had two increases within a year, which is insane for someone who is on a fixed income. But at the same time, I am glad that they accepted her, and I do think that overall it is a nice place to be.
