Paramount Senior Living

Food was not the best, everything was very cheap and and it showed. The dining experience was good, the activities were very good, overall the staff was pleasant and nice but there are always one or two or three that you will remember for all the wrong reasons. The Director [name removed] is excellent. The good staff were really good and smart. The rooms are very nice and easy to decorate. The med schedule is one size fits all and you are all taking meds at the same time very very early am - before 6 am. That works for staff but is not appropriate for the residents. Overall it is a well run, acceptable assisted living community.

We like the close connectedness and niceness of the staff, the organization and communication amongst staff has been good, good PT/OT environment. Improvements would just be food

The admission was amazingly fast, as it was needed. The routine of getting the completely dependent patient out of bed for every meal was good. The staffing at times was not optimal but the care was better than other places we visited The patient was treated with respect. The hospice team gave an exellent shower weekly and gave good care with comfort for the 3 days end of life

My thoughts on Paramount after having my brother as a resident for[time frame removed]: I would rate them a strong 4 out of 5. All the people are caring and friendly, and I particularly like most of the caregivers in the memory ward. One or two are a bit overanxious but tolerable. The facility itself is small and accommodating—just what I was looking for. It’s not huge or overbearing, which I personally like, but my reclusive brother would not be comfortable in a larger place anyway. Staffing seems more than adequate, and the quality of care is good. The amenities are sufficient for comfortable living, and nursing seems solid as I have no complaints. [name removed] is now the Executive Director, which appears to be working well.

Nice facility, food is mediocre, they can't seem to keep an activities director,

It takes a bit for someone used to being independent to adjust! The people are very good at working with everyone!

The staff is extremely friendly. The food is OK. The activities are great. I would recommend Paramount Senior Living to others who are looking for a place for their loved one. Our experience when settling my stepdad in was extremely easy and the staff was very helpful. They are responsive to any questions and are very quick to update on any changes to our stepdads health.

They could have better meals. Activities could be better for men. Staff not always nice and do not give residents privacy. Activities should also be like to the war museum in Gettysburg, etc.

I found the staff to be very attentive and caring. The activities directors tried hard to engage all the memory care patients with stories, songs, games and exercises each day. The facility was always clean and never noticed a bad odor. I always promptly received a phone call if there was any problems or concerns with my mother. I never ate at the facility with my mom but she never complained about the meals and the staff said she ate well.

The staff are caring and friendly. The place is spacious and very clean. My mother loves the food. The only neg is they are short staffed at times, but the people there work very hard to try and cover things.

. Based on the 1-5 scale, the rating for Paramount Senior Living at Newark would be a 4. The assisted living environment has been positive and inclusive for my family member. Thanks so much A Place for Mom.

Friendliness - best part are the daytime aides. So caring! The meals and dining are a 2 mostly because of my mom's mechanical diet. I've asked for more soup but so far they haven't been accommodating. Understaffed... unfortunately I think it's a problem everywhere. Response time is often too long. Communication could be better.

I have to say that the worst experience my husband has had has been with the food. But I take that with a grain of salt since he is a VERY picky eater. I hate cooking for him. ?? Overall I have seen his experience there as very positive. I know it is hard for him but the staff has been terrific.

Paramount charges a daily rate of $[fee removed]/day, provides everyone the same meal but if a resident doesn't care to eat what's being served, they may ask for an alternative meal.

Probably would have given higher scores a couple months ago, but quality of care and attention has gone down recently.

Mitigating circumstances :We've only been there a month and staff in the memory unit appears stretched. Yes, I would recommend this community to other families it is a good community. I'm sure acclimation on our part will help us make a better assessment.

Paramount offered us compassionate care in my dad’s final weeks while on hospice care. We had some rocky situations which were dealt with quickly and favorably by the administration. While response time was occasionally an issue, the care givers there were friendly, incredibly kind, and happily willing to offer whatever was needed.

It was not exactly an emergency but needed to be done quickly. I looked at Paramount, it seemed fine, and they had a room for him. The other close one didn't have a room right away so I didn't go look there. I don't have anything to compare to but wish they had more activities for those who are "more with it"

Overall, I am satisfied with the facility. Some of the aides/nurses are better than others. Safety is a priority. The food is okay, but not great. Room size is great. Bed, recliner, fridge, plenty of closet and cabinet space. Cable tv and laundry service good.

Nursing staff is very good. The administrative staff is good as well. I have enjoyed getting to know some of the other residents.
