Helpful information to know, ask

The staffs that take care of residents are really trying hard to take care of residents. When Mom was living upstate. She falls and to ER couples times. - not enough staffs to keeping eyes on everyone. So, Mom was moved to memory care unit. More stuff with less residents.k She only falls once and to hospital for Couple days. Now- the staff keep an eye on Mom all the time. Most residents have problems that need assistance. The door goes to memory unit is closed.

I’d stay here if I needed it!

My husband and I toured several local senior living facilities from Ellijay to Hiawassee, GA. We both knew this was the place for his mom and sister. Neither can live on their own anymore. We were able to get them a larger apartment type room since they are together. The staff has been nothing but welcoming and supportive. So many activities to participate in daily and overall just a lovely clean updated facility.

Glad The Oaks on Post Road exists to care for the elderly.

Very generous with their time, explained everything well and never hesitated to answer questions – in person or over the phone, even on weekends and late night calls. This is the second time I have had a loved one be taken care of at The Oaks – would use them again.

Overall a very nice place

As is somewhat typical with these type of facilities, there is a moderately high turnover rate of staff. Over the past year, Oaks has changed directors once, activities directors 3 times, and has a part time person at the desk. They have changed food service staff twice and have a hard time keeping more than one full time house keeper for residents rooms. My dad, who is the resident, said the food quality has gone down when they changed food service and they have to wait almost an hour to get their food after arriving in the dining room. Maybe that is normal, I don't know. Activities that are more stimulating such as a book club would be nice

Oaks at Post Toad was the right choice for our mom

This was the first out of home placement for our mom. It was a difficult decision for us to make and we had a very limited amount of time to make it. A Place for Mom was extremely helpful. The Oaks at Post Road has proven to be the right choice for our mom. I personally like the single level living space and open courtyard. The staff has been competent, professional, and caring.

BECAUSE OF THE OAKS...I M FREE FROM WORRY BECAUSE I KNOW SHE IS IN SAFE HANDS

The update is that all is well, and [name removed] is doing well. The care for her is good. She no longer can walk, nor stand. The only continued issue is the care of her clothes. Either it is missing or other clothing from other residents is mixed with her. Other than that, I give The Oaks an A.

A Small and caring place for dad

Dad was at the Oaks in Pooler for about 3 years before his passing last month. Shortly after arriving there, The Oaks had new owners so many employees were going and new was coming. It has been in a constant state of change and movement of employees. They seem to be finding a good stride now. However, with all this going on with employees and management, I can truly say dad received great care. He had advanced dementia and was getting worse as time went on. As with dementia, he had anger issues and increasingly unable to do most daily tasks. They were quick to learn the best ways to deal with him with love and respect. The employees in the [facility removed]section showed a lot of patience as things got bad. I'm glad that he was there. It's a small area which was great to have eyes on him at all times. It was tough for me finding who to communicate with in management but the best for him. This was his 4 place after 5 years in other places. So I was glad to find the Oaks of Pooler which was the perfect place for him and he liked it there. Also, you should know that I recommend A Place for Mom to anyone who asks. Connecting with y'all gave me access and other information that totally changed things for us. You help take a lot of pressure and stress off of us for the last 3 years. Our saving grace and our angels! We will always be grateful to all of you!! Sincerely, [name removed]Demery proud daughter of[name removed]

Our Family's experience

As I said, this was just over a year ago. Things have gone down since then. I have kept up with the residents at Shiloh Point. I can no longer recommend it. The good people left, the bad director was moved to another facility and recently fired. The level of care has fallen. The activities director is not doing much of anything. It's sad. Most of the residents that I know are looking for another place. The 4, and 5 rating would be a 2 or 3 now.

A Beautiful place and a great staff

They need to have more activities for the residents in the memory unit and should more engaged with residents. Having said this I chose this facility because of the staff.

I would recommend

The 3 on Cleanliness comes primarily from the odor, consistently smelling like urine or "number 2." The 3 on Activities I gave because I don't see or know of activites that takes place. I saw exercise take place one Sunday that I visited but nothing else. Maybe it's just the nature of the memory-care side versus assisted living.

Nice clean facility with at least a few really stellar employees that always go above and beyond

Dealing with dementia patients has gotta be the hardest job in the world. I think everyone that works there is great and kind and helpful. Big should out to [name removed], he really helped us out a lot when [name removed] moved into the rehab center (she broke her hip) and made it so we didn't have to pay an extra month's rent unnecessarily and [name removed] was also so wonderful and helpful always. The food was honestly trash but I know they have to please the palates of like 40 elderly people and that can not possibly be easy and they have to keep things bland on purpose. Idk if this goes into the rating or anything but [name removed] was always offered food and had plenty of food, she just didn't personally like it but she can be difficult to please, especially in this mental state. The patient to staff ratio is a little low in my opinion, [name removed] had a few falls when she was "unsupervised" but i know there can't be a person in every residents room all the time so it's a real catch 22. If you don't visit during normal business hours, there are very few staff members. Some of the activities are pretty good. They don't have a very large activities budget but I really appreciate a few of the things they had. The women love getting their nails done, that is probably my favorite of the activities to be around for. The flower arranging was one of [name removed] favorite things, it gave her purpose. They have high tea party once a month or so which I thought was great. More art classes would be nice. I can't imagine all the hidden costs in a center like this, and i know I don't see the full picture but it seems like with the amount we paid for a shared bedroom (around $3300) that more than $30 could be spared for any given activity scheduled (which is what I understand their activities budget to be like). There is one more person I wanted to make sure got some recognition but I cannot remember her name and I feel awful. I want to say it was [name removed]? That could be very wrong. She's in charge of the nail painting party, the high tea party and the crafts etc, she is a literal angel on earth. So kind and patient and a beautiful person inside and out. I wish I knew her name I feel like a turd for forgetting, I would call and ask but I know the office staff is gone for the weekend. Honestly, if I had another elderly relative that needed to be in a dementia care center, I would very much consider the oaks at mount pleasant an option. They do the best they can with what they have and they do it with smiles on their faces.

A great quiet and peaceful assisted living community

If one has a question or concern they will readily address it. My 94 your old uncle enjoys living there. When I have asked him the playful question, "If you could go anywhere in the word, where would you go?", his response is, " Here". I'm guessing there is an extremely limited budget for activities or there may just be limited interest in activities. I believe there are several "Oaks" in the metro area. It would be interesting to explore the possibility of hiring a recreational therapist to create and implement activities for various Oaks communities.
