Dont trust the first impression here

I brought my mother on a tour here so she could be near one of her friends that just moved in. My first impression was how nice it appeared. Halfway through the tour I knew I was not sending my mother here. I noticed mold growing on base baords, fruit flies, holes in the ceilings, unrepaired leak damage, there was a dog running around in the lobby and the carpet is just gross. The activities room is a disaster its amazing any thing gets done. Later that week while my mother and I were visiting her friend to let her know this was not an option for us one I overeheard staff talking down about the residents right up front in the office. Its amazing what you can hear from their water fountain. The one lady that is over the top forcing her self to be friendly was the loudest and the worst. She clearly has no empathy for the people that live there. It seemed like the entire staff was at the front desk having a party. This was not a good impression. Also there is almost no staff after dinner. This I see as a saftey problem. What would happen if she needed help and staff was busy with another emergency?. To my understanding this is independent living. I have been told that they are not "allowed" to sit in the common area up front they are told where to sit for lunch and dinner and the bus only runs part time. This place I can see has great potential. Unfortunately this place is poorly managed and needs better maintenance.

Summit place came highly recommended After just a few days of having our family member placed there they were very quick to judge and wanted to place Her in a different wing and charge extra money. They do not check on them and keep them dry they do not offer them something to drink they are dehydrated. They pick and choose their favorites And those people get special Care the rest get pushed to the wayside. They are taken to the dining room 45 minutes before they're actually serve their food and they just sit there. I watch the woman in the dining room in the afternoon walk around and ask everybody what they wanted for lunch and dinner the next day and never ask my family member the food here is subpar the Care is subpar and the majority of the staff is extremely rude. Care and dedication of the staff was so poor We removed our family member after just two weeks. I would not recommend this place to anyone

[removed]. Over and over I visited my mother in the memory care unit at this facility, and found her in soaked pull-ups and with dried stool caked on her skin. Comments to the staff brought eye rolls and assurances they had just toileted her an hour beforehand. To compound the insult to her skin integrity, I also found her lying across her bed every time I went to see her. She would sit down on the side of the bed and just let herself fall backwards. Because she had so much hardware in her back and neck from previous surgeries, her body did not lie flat, so all her tiny weight went straight down on her coccyx. Again, with the eye rolls, and the shrugs, and the grimaces, as i complained about them letting her lie like this for hours at a time. She developed a Stage 4 pressure ulcer, ended up in the hospital with septicemia, and nearly died. She was moved to a nursing home, where she recovered, but remained weakened. Falls, a broken hip, a period of brief rally, and then a fall followed by a significant downhill slide marked the next two months. She passed away last month. Now, my mother had vascular dementia - she had a terminal illness. [removed] I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Our families experience

On the surface Chatham Ridge looks like a great place which is why we picked it for our loved one, however they were very understaffed and undertrained. The bottom line is we strongly encourage families not to just pick this community based on looks or based off a singular tour, we encourage them to ask all the difficult and detailed questions to ensure your loved one is going to get the proper care and attention.

Warning: do not take your loved one to this facility

I want to make sure no one else ever takes heir loved ones here. My mother suffered greatly, she had covid and no one knew it. She was unresponsive and no one checked her vitals. My daughter found her and demanded someone call 911, when they did and got her to the hospital, that's when they found out she had covid. She went into Colonials Gardens walking, feeding herself, speaking and now she is unable to do any of that on her own. They did not give her medications the correct way and some of the ones she was prescribed they did not give her at all. Within 2 weeks she could hardly do anything by herself. No one would listen to any of our concerns either. It was a terrible experience, but they very much made us think in the beginning that everything was going to be great. I think if we were not there checking on her every day, she would not be alive today.

Not a positive expeirence be mindful

They tried to take my dads money from him. The day before he moved in, the doctors told us due to his condition it would not be a good idea and they could not give us the money back until recently. I think they care more about the money than the actual residents well being. I would not recommend them to anybody looking.

Very Sad

I moved my dad from Chandler Place Independent Living (wonderful place) because he needed more care. I thought he would get the same genuine care but at a different level. I was wrong. The facility is run by [name removed] who I believe is a supervisor of the staff . I never met the facility director. My dad received poor care and they eventually forced him out during the Covid virus. It was devastating for me trying to find a place for him. I received no help from [name removed] or anyone at Chandler as I struggled to navigate a place for him. I finally found Carolina Gardens on my own. They were great and took care of my dad until he passed. Be careful if you chose Chandler Place Assisted Living.

Hitchcock 6 month experience during a pandemic

Hitchcock is NOT a place I would want for anyone I cared for. I put my father there at the end of March because of Covid, I made a hasty decision. In the beginning they were very inviting and informative. My father was there 6 months. And in that time he was sent to ER twice for “dementia behaviors” . So he sat in a flex unit in the ER for 10-12 hours, for an accessor to tell us he was fine to go back. It was situational, and his behavior was just not addressed by competent people that knew anything about dementia or Alzheimer’s. He was sent to a psychiatric ward by the parent company, Enlivant, even after the psychiatrist sent my father back to facility. He endures 10 days of new medications that shut his body down. He ended up on the medical side of the psychiatric facility because he was “not getting better”. Meanwhile I’m still not allowed to see him, or talk to him to assure him that I’m trying to get him home. Or even let him know what is going on!!! Finally after finding a tumor on his kidney, I get hospice involved to get my dad back to Hitchcock. He now is wearing a diaper, wheelchair and being fed by an assistant. When he returns he makes a full recovery (after the meds the psychiatric ward gave him are out of system) and starts walking, eating, and using bathroom. I’m still on allowed visits at a window in front of the Hitchcock facility between 9-5pm. Now our monthly bill has gone from $4000 to $4900. Even with hospice coming twice a week to help shower and take vitals. They quit cutting his hair and shaving his face. My dad would plead at the window to get him out of there. And I did. When I moved him out, they never once helped me nor even spoke to me. The room was disgusting, smelled like urine. And there was a cart with close to 5 loads of his clothes in the middle of his room. It looks like once they knew he was leaving, they washed everything that was piled in his room. Because I could see in his window anymore, they shut the blinds 3 months ago. My dad went through two pair of hearing aids, and 4 pairs of prescription glasses. I’m scared to think of how he was treated there because they knew we couldn’t come in to see how he was doing. And how they’re doing with their promises that they say to get you to come to them. I pray that they get the help to educate their med techs to properly communicate with their residents. I pray that the director learns how to communicate with the family that trusts them to put their loved one there. I reached out to the director via email, texts, phone calls, and in person. He would state he wasn’t there , or to talk to [name removed], the nurse. [name removed] is the only reason I tolerated some of this behavior. But, it takes a TEAM to work a assisted living. And that’s what they sold me on day one of brining him there. Now I know, at the expense of my fathers health and well being, that is was a lie.

Very Sad

I was very unhappy with Chandler Place Assisted Living and Memory Care. I moved my father from Chandler Independent Living (fabulous place) to Chandler Assisted Living. He was only there for three months and deteriorated so rapidly. It was heartbreaking. In the middle of the Covid Virus, I was told by [name removed] to find another place for him and was given a short period of time to move him out. Can you imagine how hard this was when all care facilities were locked down for the Covid virus? No one at Chandler offered to help me. The entire time my father was there, I never met an administrator, don't know if there was even one. [name removed] was the person in charge. After two phone conversations with her telling me to find a place for my dad, I cried. She was cold and uncompassionate. The good news is that I found a better place for my father, which is CHEAPER and the staff there are very compassionate. I urge anyone who is considering this facility to shop around.

Terrible

[Name removed] is supposed to be for assisted living patients. It is not. Most of the patients have dementia or Alzheimer. The food is terrible. They need a certified dietitian. They cannot keep help. Currently they do not have a manager or maintenance person They seem hire from the other assisted living places in Greenwood. The people they are hiring they need to find out why they were terminated from the other places. Sad!!!! They went for months and months without a nurse. Hired one she only stayed 3 days. The upper management needs to come down and change things. We are looking into a lawsuit with other family of residence. Family members are paying over 4,500.00 a month.... no manager. almost 8 months without a nurse, can’t keep people. Major major problems.

STAY AWAY

My loved one was there for a few months. The place is 85% dementia patients. We were told it was only 20%. My loved one had no dementia issues so it was like living in a psyche ward. Some of the staff was hateful and rough with the residents. The food was pure awful. Those who could not feed themselves had their plates taken away after the meal, untouched. There was not adequate staff and the staff was NOT trained. Leadership there was apathetic. PLEASE don't let the beautiful environment fool you. I had to remove my loved one. They witnessed horrible incidents. Not a place for a loved one to be. Unfortunately the dementia residents have no way to communicate how horrible this place is.

Failed my mother in every way imaginable

The last paragraph is probably the most important, but I'm trying to keep it chronological. In the first month of her being with her, they ran out of my mother's medicine and just DIDN'T GIVE IT TO HER for a day and a half. This is an addictive drug and she definitely went through withdrawal in the process along with tremendous anxiety and no sleep. Nobody was sorry, just blaming everyone else. We pay $250/ month for basic med management, but she only has one prescription and they can't even get that right. Also, the ONLY PCP who goes to the facility provides horrific care, with lab tests being delayed for up to 4 days with no good explanation. That's a problem when you're dealing with a potential UTI. Again, Chandler takes no responsibility and tells you to call the PCP (you'll get nowhere). Within 2 months, my mom was so upset with them that that she tried to take her own life. Her explanation to me was that she didn't want to pay them any more money, ever. I'm not saying that's a logical reason to hurt oneself, but it's relevant that it was on her mind. Chandler would not allow her back without 24-hour supervision (and that could not be a family member), even when she was cleared by a psychiatrist to go back to assisted living. Within two months of my mom needing their care, they had charged us rent for the time it took them to get her paperwork straight BEFORE she could move in (a week), they required a $3000 community fee, and raised our rates the following month saying that it's normal for rates to be raised ANNUALLY (that means January to them, not after your loved one stays a year). And no, they won't refund the community fee even though they failed my mother at every turn.

Buyer Beware!

We made a deposit in August 2018, and were told the deposit was fully refundable. We decided on another facility and asked for the deposit to be returned We have made several requests and are always told, "I'll let you know as soon as we hear something." This is February 2019, and we are still waiting after several contacts. I suppose the next stop is an attorney, magistrate court and filing a complaint with the Secretary of State. I guess this is a case of buyer beware...so, buyer beware. I'll be shocked if this review ever sees the light of day.

HORRIBLE NASTY & HEARTLESS

Only because zero stars isnt an option! My grandfather was in the memory care unit for 1 1/2 yrs. Its dirty & stinks. Staff is lazy as I witnessed patients setting alone several times. Any clothes or necessities purchased for your loved ones will be scattered, lost, stolen & used on others. When my gfather was on his death bed with hospice, 1 staff ask, "He aint eatin?" When I explained he could not & was on his last hours. Her response was, "Wish I couldn't eat, Id lose weight!" (how caring) We requested that his clothes be given to the ones in need with no family. [Name removed] informed us thats not allowed & we must come back & remove them. If you care about your loved one at all...dont put them in this nasty hell hole!

No way

I would not recommend Hammond Place in North Augusta South Carolina for anyone. They talk a big talk to get you in and take your $4,000 move in fee. Then everything changes. They are not prepared to provide assistance , nor do some of them want to. Very poor management and very poor care.
