Unique In It's Own Way

It is proven to be a cost effective place for my mom. They had let us know that there is change with management, right now it's not the best but I am confident all will get taken care of. The residents wear a necklace with a push button. We had an a/c issue and they accommodated our rent for 7 days. They are responsive with what we need. There are 5 buildings and each one has 15 residents. They have their own kitchen to prepare meals and the 15 residents sit together,it is not cafeteria style. One of their selling points is all the help is included with the rent, not added to the monthly rent or a la carte.

This community seemed clean when I visited. The people I met were nice, however this community was a little more expensive than we were looking for. The food was good. I heard from some people that the staff were not as attentive as they said they were. They seem to be a little understaffed.

1: Overall experience was good. We did notice the low staff at each house. There was times we couldn't get in because there was one person working and went to another house to help there. 2: It was clean no issues there. 3: Staff was friendly and helpful at times. 4: Quality of care was overall good, some days could've been better. (Short Staffed) 5: Administrative staff were kind. 6: Food was good on some days but if what they were having for any meal and my mother in law didn't eat it due to her teeth. So she ended up not eating. 7: Activities, she wasn't really interested in that. 8: I truly believe that it's a little over priced. I'd say If it was fully staff and everyone had a job to do it would make sense. But at the time she was there it was not worth $4,000 a month. They never would make sure she'd take her meds or eat.

Feedback from my siblings: I believe the staff were friendly and they care about the residents. They are overworked and most likely under paid. The last six months we took it upon ourselves to clean her room. There was more than one occasion that the sheets were soiled. I do know that this is a monotonous job and I appreciate the staff. For the amount of money [removed name] paid, this facility really could be more cognizant of making sure the residents and their rooms are clean. I believe that there’s more that they can do to have family members come and visit that live close by. I never saw anyone there. I thought it would be nice if they had some kind of a support group with the families. Possibly a Facebook page or a chat room for the families. There is a lot of staff turnover. Maintenance was slow to fix problems, like cabinet door in kitchen off hinges and front door handle falling off. It seemed they could use an additional set of hands the days we visited. Appeared night staff was less diligent with regards to cleaning often leaving the day staff to clean up old, dried messes. Constant urine odor. Overall, the staff was friendly.

If you are not limited in your mobility to visit from one house to another it is great but if you have to depend on someone else to help you it's not the best

Disappointed

There's a lot of staff turnover and no night staff to help. The short staff have too many people to help so patients have to wait their turn if need assistance.

Seems to be short handed a lot . Food isn't that good and the "always available food" isn't usually available. The good employees have to make up for the not so good ones and that causes some issues.

Good for the price but understaffed. My mother falls at least once a week and is usually dirty when I visit because she is difficult to bathe. The staff are kind but have heavy attrition. Would be better with lower staff to resident ratio, even if unskilled just to monitor residents.

Food is average at best. Very high turnover. Tons of miscommunication and the Keller location is poorly managed. Entire management team at that location is new. Overall sales and marketing was a 5 including incentives offered. Management of the location, food and support of my mom once she got there

not horrible but room for improvement

Not enough supervision of residents in my opinion. Room size good. Meal portions small. But I know my dad has a better appetite than people his age.

Our family's experience.

Let me preface my answers first. Our experience with Mustang Creek has been a rollercoaster. When we first got there I would have answered 5 for all the questions. There are new people in charge now and things have changed. Still a nice place. They just hired a new cleaning person. Just hired a new activity director so things are just starting up. It's still the best priced place we have seen. The worst part of it is management. They are in charge of hiring and firing. They seem to let go the good workers and keep some bad ones. If they keep this activity director she is going to get this place back to awesome with all the stuff she wants to do. I just wish management would listen to the things I tell them aren't working and fix those problems.

My husband did not participate since he got hurt on the first week I moved him. I think they need more help for the house my husband was in. Particularly on weekends. They are not able to provide sufficient care to their residence. Some of their employees do not know how to care for the residence or afraid to take care of them. I tried to help a lot to take care of my husband since I was there all the time. I made sure he is taken care of. I have real issue on how they manage the medications. There are some good workers who cares about the residence and some could careless. But that is probably through in the industry. I think having 2 people doing the caring for residence plus doing the cooking and cleaning at the same time is too much for workers. They need at least 1-2 more people dedicated to taking care of the residence. I do love the idea of fresh cook in the house but it takes a lot of time for the caregivers. And caregiving suffers because of time spent cooking and cleaning the kitchen area and sometimes the entire house plus laundry.

Average at best

Medication administration is very sketchy. The rooms are not cleaned well. Incontinent care is terrible. I would change facilities if my husband was healthier. Transportation to medical appointments is very difficult to coordinate. The administration is rarely on site, difficult to communicate with

Positive and negatives

The food is terrible and the kitchen is always dirty. Staff needs to be cleaning in idle time. Seems that most of the time there is no staff present in the home unless it's meal time. However, the staff is courteous and helpful when needed. Activities are good and residents seem to like this.

Nice but Not For Everyone

The facility and staff were very nice, polite, and worked with my mom. That was not easy. My mom made it challenging for them, but they continued to try. She was in the Assisted Living Plus building and she was able to get out. The door is not locked. But an alarm will sound when the door is opened without putting in the code first. This place did not meet my mom’s expectation because she came from an Independent Living place and wanted the same accommodations she had there. She complained and had drama everyday so we moved her out. They said they have activities but I never saw any. I did not get to meet the Activities Director. My mom never spoke about any activities when I asked. So that is something I can not give a personal opinion about.

Mustang Creek Estates Review

My family member has been at Mustang Creek since mid last year and I was there several days a week making sure that he was well taken care of & that he got settled in. The caretakers are very nice and helpful but you must understand that they aren't nurses (and they don't necessarily think like a nurse either) so they do their best with the training that they received but they don't completely understand that caring for senior citizens is so different because they don't heal as quickly, not all of their symptoms are "just a bug" & go away. I'm learning as I go on this caregiver journey that a fever can actually be a symptom of a UTI, getting physically ill & erratic behavior can be too. Unless you see these things in your family member, it's hard to grasp. That's just a few examples. The caregivers are really caring and they do their best to do all that this job requires, like caring for all of the residents, changing diapers, cooking food, giving medications, doing the laundry of the residents, bathing residents, keeping the house clean, etc. This isn't all their tasks, it's just a peek of what they do, as a family member, you must be available, visit regularly and be your loved ones advocate! They really do need you. That is so important! It doesn't matter what facility that you research, they all have issues that need to be addressed & some are worse than others but you also won't necessarily know until you put your family member there or you see reviews. It's not all negative, please don't think that, it's apparent that each family that has a loved one in any facility, must be there and be their advocate when they need it.

Would recommend

Our biggest complaint is the pharmacy they require us to use. Deliveries come from Carrollton and they have made mistakes, such as leaving out a prescription. I think the small house community is better for elderly people who have memory issues or can be overwhelmed by moving around large facilities. Each resident has a private bedroom and bathroom. But that also reduces the activities and space for doing things. The care givers get to know them very well but like all facilities they have a high turn over rate. Mustang Creek has been a good place for my mom and dad.

Recommended with oversight

They have improved since we moved her in but initially we had issues mainly with inattentive staff. I would move some to a 4 after the changes were made. I had to complain about the smell of urine every time we went there initially due to them not toileting the residents. That has vastly improved. I would recommend them at this point. They have been responsive to complaints and taking care of the things that we have asked them to take care of. I would have preferred not to have to complain, but the fact that they fix the problems is a good thing.
