Merrill Gardens

Barkley Place is well organized and sufficiently managed. The assisted living portion of the facility is all on the bottom floor with the cafeteria and all other services. Meals are good, well portioned, and served promptly. Recreation programs and events are vast - something for everyone and adaptive. The nurse and aide services are capable, careful, and responsive. The management and administration section is helpful and responsive to concerns. Military Veterans are very welcome, meet monthly for lunch, and supported. Facility security, procedures, and cleanliness are well done at Barkley Place.

All homes for the elderly have problems...mainly finding and retaining good employees, including management. Merrill Gardens is not perfect, but is better than the rest overall and that's why I selected it for my friend. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in need of assisted living.

It's good as an assisted living facility. When his level of care went up, they couldn't provide as much care as he needed.

Merrill Gardens is a very clean community and their staff members are great. The meals are ok, it seems to be the same bland items. However at least its by order and not a buffet. There are almost no physical activities. There is only chair aerobics which our loved ones scoffs at. It just seems to lack creativity. I recommend it for a social person with limited physical needs. Meaning. It's in the city and really no place safe to go for a walk.

Truewood by Merrill Fig Garden is Independent Living with a lot of rules. The housekeeper that does my mom's apartment is not very friendly and hates animals. They have a lot of fun activities for the residents. They also provide transportation for Dr appointments.

The overall facility was very pleasant and quiet. We are currently looking for a facility for our mom. this is the running. Thank you.

The facility is convenient and in a good location. Merrill Gardens should pay more attention to cleanliness of the Garden Center (memory care) and the main dining room on the first floor. The caregivers are top notch. The management needs to be replaced. Unprofessional and rude.

My loved one was previously a resident at Merrill Gardens at Willow Glen and the overall experience was good. The cleanliness was great. The friendliness, staff and meals were all good. The value for cost was okay. Overall, based on our experience, I would recommend Merrill Gardens at Willow Glen to others.

I am currently a resident at Truewood by Merrill Pinole and the overall experience has been good. The cleanliness is okay, but could use some improvement. The friendliness of the other residents is great, of the staff is good. The staff is adequate in most cases. The food is spotty, good somedays and others not so much. The activities are fair, but somewhat lacking in my opinion. As for the value for cost, initially I researched and found this facility was the most reasonably priced in the area. However, some days the food makes one think it is not such a good deal.

The staff at Merrill Gardens West Chester has been very helpful and accessible.

Our family has been very happy with the facility and we had a great first impression. It did not seem like a "nursing home" - it is clean, it smelled nice and there are a lot of open spaces. The residents who live there also seemed happy to be there.

Overall, our experience has been good. My mother is happy there.

I feel like my step mom is safe here. The quality of food is a bit low, but that is due to the limited budget they're working with in my opinion. Overall- safe place, where I don't worry that mom has help when needed, affordable for what she gets, and the staff is usually looking out for the residents best interest.

Everyone is very friendly at Truewood by Merrill, Roseville. When it comes to the cleanliness it could be cleaner. Most of the staff are very friendly. The meals are good. The one thing I don't like is that it is not restaurant style. Like everyone eats at the same time. They should have meals for several hours. Not everyone wants to eat at 8 or 12:30 or 5:30. There could be a few more activities, but good. For the value for cost it is good, as of now.

They are slow to make repairs but the staff for the garden house is fantastic.

The staff at Truwood is amazing. Some of the caregivers mother absolutely loves! As with any place, some are good, but just not as good as others! There is not a lot of activities at Truwood. I believe it's due to the size of the facility! However, there were even fewer activities on the memory care side. Moving into Truwood was a very easy process. They initially sent out a nurse to evaluate Mom. I was impressed with that. And they recommended that she go into the assisted-living side. I was very pleased because the cost was much cheaper. She was only on the AL side, one month before they recommended moving her to memory care. The cost jumped dramatically and of course I really had no other options because it would be more traumatic to move to a different location. Some of the other facilities, I looked at had one set cost (all inclusive price) for memory care, they do not at Truwood. I would definitely recommend Truwood. The staff is wonderful, but be aware of the cost of everything.

I was very impressed with the size and cleanliness of the apartment they were very decorated very nice and made my son feel comfortable and safe there. The ground s are very nice too and will be used a lot more when the weather gets warmer. It was a good experience for my son as got therapy and has helped him become stronger, which he really needed and enjoyed. I would recommend Truwood as a good place when you are looking for a place for your loved one.

The facility is circular and beautifully Victorian surrounding a sunny lush garden courtyard. Setting is on a hill three blocks from the ocean. There is always a friendly receptionist close to the entrance to greet you and who always answers the phone when you call. Everyone one on the staff is friendly and happy to help. They all offer help if you look a little lost or unsure. The food is outstanding in a dining room that is always clean and sunny. The elevator is a little slow so you need not be in a hurry . Give yourself an extra few minutes coming or going.

I checked three different places. All were nice. The difference at Merrill Gardens is that everyone, including the residents, make eye contact with you and say hello. My mom has been there about two months and she likes it alot. She was very reticent but now exercises daily, plays bingo and cards and has made many new friends. The employees there are also very friendly.

Overall cleanliness is very good however the staff is not given the time to change water for mopping in between apartments so if your not first on the route you have dirty water. Staff seem very good however management is very corporate and get around to you at their convenience and seem to assume that the residents all have some memory issues. Same two main meals for lunch and dinner and the other choices never change. The cost for a guest is now $17 for breakfast and $ 20 for both lunch and dinner. The food is average at best the service is sub par. She really doesn't participate they are the same as any retirement facility no real imagination. When entering she was told there would be increases annually but never have they been more then 3% - her first year increase was 10%.
