Beware

Beware, lots of human rights violations in this memory care, do your home work and compare! Don't let the glitz and glamor pull you in. No phones allowed here, may be told can't visit or contact your loved one for up to 6 weeks at the beginning. Poor quality meals, snacks are usually donuts, why not cheese & crackers or fruit for snacks. Was told the chef had worked at Flagstaff House restaurant in Boulder, they never heard of him. Very few activities provided, supposed to have group walks that's rare, lack of stimulation for all residents. Beware of nurse [name removed], she makes the rules her way, right or wrong! Strong psychotropic drugs are apparent to control some patients, you might not recognize your loved one after 2 months if that is the case. CNAs do a good job over all and are friendly and courteous. This place has only been open 8 months and already have had several resignations of top level employee key positions. Poor and mismanagement pretty much sums it up. It could be a great place if they drained the swamp and hired competent people.

I toured at Willow Bend, and while the community itself was fine, I didn't like that the residents were all required to join in the activities there. They have a system of stations set up that the residents have to go though. I realize that their goal is to set up a routine for the residents, but I don't feel that they should be required to do all the activities if they don't want to. Overall, I feel this community would not be a good fit for us.

I no longer recommend

My mother has been a resident of this ALF since it opened. It was very nice at that time and the food was very good. Things have drastically changed since then. Nearly three years later and it has gone severely down hill. The food quality is very bad compared to how it used to be. I have a feeling they are no longer preparing the meals on site as you can never smell food cooking, it is tasteless, bland and cold. Most dinners consist of a lunch meat sandwich on stale bread with french fries. The dining room staff is very disorganized and unprofessional looking and in their actions. Rather than asking what may I get for you [Removed], they say what you want? There is a constant turnover of employees which says management is poor. The administrator acts very accommodating when told of a problem but nothing seems to get better just forgotten. They lost my mother's medication on more than one occasion and when she falls in her room they are very slow if ever to respond. I am tired of her complaints and feel terrible leaving her there but I feel I have no other choice since she is not willing to ;move. On the bright side they do have side trips to restaurants and mystery rides that mom seems to enjoy. She also likes some of the activities and has met nice people and employees there. It seems like the reviews on here are from people looking at the Windsor not from those who have lived there. I wish I could move my mother somewhere else but everything seems nice on the surface and I'm afraid to jump from the frying pan into the fire. I hope things improve, I know many of the residents have been complaining.

Good Mgmt, Awful Environment

Employees are nice. Residents are terrible people who seek to take their long-simmering psychological issues out on anyone else to feel better about their themselves. Caregivers are forewarned. Petty jealousy is the name of the game here. And it has nothing to do with distracting themselves from encroaching death and everything to do with middle school, primitive human behavior. Consider it feral pack behavior or sociopathic tendencies, who knows, but new members are quickly inducted into the "way things work." This wasn't my first experience with the geriatric community, Also very White People. Although mgmt seems to be making an effort to change that. Perhaps they got sued. People of color looking to be residents should be wary.

Think twice

My family member has been there several months. Recently a new director arrived and the staffing problems, always as issue, have become a crisis. Several long time staff have left in the last few weeks. The odor coming from some of the residents sends the message that staff shortages have had an affect on level of care. Also the dining room is more of a dining hall. Some of the staff are good but many just sort of throw the plates down. There are usually long waits in between courses and options that appear on the menu may take a long time to be served. The message seems to be to take what they give you and don't bother with the options. My impression is that many, possibly most, of their assisted living residents have some form of dementia. However, the resident rooms are beautiful. The public spaces are also very attractive although limited.

Concerns

If you are considering Rivermont for a loved one, I encourage you to ask detailed questions during your tour: Ask how old the building and the windows are, and look for signs of condensation on the windows, which may indicate poor insulation and potential moisture issues. Check whether the bathroom hot water is consistently hot. See if the bathroom has an exhaust fan for ventilation after showers. Try the lunch and dinner yourself to see if the food meets your expectations. Ask how many CNAs are on duty during each shift. Ask how long the current CNAs have worked there and what the staff turnover rate is. If possible, speak directly with a CNA about their experience working there. Ask what happens during a prolonged power outage and whether backup generators are immediately available for resident rooms and common areas. I regret not asking these questions before moving in. After only two months, we submitted our required 60-day notice to leave.

Run from Rosewood

The care was subpar, my mother-in-law's medications were jerked with and they told us she had to leave the facility 2 days before Christmas. I know it's easy to think the fault may be with her or us, but the next facility she went to took incredible care of her, loved her and she displayed much more peace when in that facility. Thankfully, that is where she got to spend her last days. She actually became one of the staff favorites. Subsequently, a family member we recommended to Rosewood also ended up leaving there having had an unpleasant experience. She was kicked out, that it was for typical dementia-related behavior.

Most of the aids do not treat the elderly with care. I know there are people shortage but they are hiring people who look at health care as a job and not a vocation. My father went there from the hospital and was in a wheelchair, he needed help bathing, after the first experience (where he said the ladies-2 of them- tossed him around and were rough) he figured out how to do it himself. The manager of patient care (it took 8 days to get her to get in touch after several emails/phone calls; my dad was there for 2 weeks), they did his laundry one time which was the last day he left. Before that I took it home because she never told us what day, never answered questions. She was the worst of them. I bought disposable chucks, gloves, body wipes, everything that was supposed to be in the room but they didn't get around to doing until the second week. Most days he didn't see anyone in his room but the nurses for meds. No one helped him get ready for bed or really cared. I should have sued them for feeding him bad food. I was out of town for 2 days and didn't know about it until I got back. No one called me, I heard it from my dad when I got back. There was one aide my dad really liked but she filled in on his floor (she worked on the floor above), she was nice to him and showed compassion and one of the guys who worked as support staff, he would stop in and check on my dad. This was supposed to be where he went to get stronger before he went home to his place. As a former nurse, I was appalled and angry that at a "rehab" center, this was the level of care he received. 2 weeks he was there, I would have been better off just having in home nursing care spend a couple hours with him. It would have been more time than the staff spent with him.

Horrible experience

Poor management and follow-up. No concern for the health and wellness of their clients. Medications changed by doctors without notification (which put my loved one in the hospital and probably would have died if I did not move him out), unhealthy food choices and quantities, under staffed or no concern from most care staff. Horrible facility- it presents itself well but once your loved one moves in, very disappointing from top management down.

What are we paying for?

Very expensive nursing home. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for dinner? Last night it was a cold tuna sandwich on cold toast. Mom said she scraped the tuna off the cold toast. I would not give cold toast to anyone. We are paying almost $[removed]a month for that? Where is the money going? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Run away don’t walk!!

My mother is now at legends for a little over a month and it has been a complete train wreck!!! Second night there she fell out of a bed that was to high we asked several times to get the bed lowered but the request was way out of there skill set . So mom broke hip surgery and then to Cordarra rehab that experience was a horrific experience. Got mom back to legends and they lost her hearing aids, they blame her she is 91 on hospice had hearing aids 15 years never lost them as they are very important to her as she is def with out them. Management would not take responsibility even though it is in her care plan. Done one took her wheel chair out of her room in middle of night management made no attempt to find it . Hospice had to bring another one. On several occasions I went to visit mom she was in bed dirty needed help and her call button in a table across room . She is 9- unable to walk but the manager said it was my mom’s fault … management is morally bankrupt. No honor, no shame, no

Our family's experience

Our experience was poor in most every thing. Walked into their apt and it smelled of urine. [name removed] was laying in a wet bed , wet clothing. Laundry wasn't done as we had been told it would be, went at supper time and she wasn't eating and she said she didn't like it. I ask someone with a badge that said food on it if she could have something else and they said the other offering was salad and she could not have that because of swallowing and I said so is she just supposed to go to bed hungry and they finally said that they could get a grilled cheese sandwich and she said [name removed] said she would eat that it took 4045 minutes for it to come out by that time they had passed out cookies and she ate cookies and wasn't hungry anymore. Then there was also changing in staff two and three times in the short time that we were there so we couldn't get any support from them because we didn't know who to even ask most the time. Just a very unpleasant experience.

Do not send your loved ones here

My mom was in assisted living for a few months. I got a call after 4 pm one day from Harrison telling me we needed to find a sitter for my mother that evening or we needed to put her in their memory care unit for her safety immediately. We went ahead and put her in the memory care unit. We received three phone calls in the spam of a couple of months letting us know my mother had gotten out of their secure memory care unit. Also, they weren't able to give my mother her medication. They said she refused to take it. My mother's room in the memory care unit was always a complete mess. We caught them in multiple lies. My mother was not cleaned properly. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Do not recommend this facility

The food was terrible. The messed up her medication several times. The facility had constant turnover. I feared for my mother's safety. I moved her out and the facility wanted to charge me because I didn't give notice.

Terrible management

My 91 year old dad resided at arbor house for 2 1/2 years. About a year ago, the place was sold to legends and it quickly went downhill. They were constantly understaffed. We tried going to the director, [name removed] with our issues and eventually spoke with [name removed], director of operations and [name removed], V.P. of operations, to no avail. We formed a resident/family council and called for town hall meetings only to be met with resistance. Dad received the wrong medications and had missing medications. I contacted state and after their Investigation, my dad was evicted with a 5 day notice to vacate. We spoke with state officials and our ombudsman but, decided he’d be better off with a company that cares. If you love your family, please don’t consider Arbor House. You will be very disappointed.

Don’t be fooled…

Our dad’s medications were mismanaged every single day for over a month. Errors involved giving wrong doses and letting a blood thinner medication lapse. No one on staff even noticed. It was our dad who brought it to our attention. When we raised this issue, it was first denied, then minimized. No one could give us a straight answer about how long he had been off the blood thinner. When a date was finally provided, it turned out to be incorrect. It was only after we contacted the pharmacy that we got an accurate timeline—which was different from what Legend told us. This level of disorganization and misinformation is inexcusable. After requesting a meeting, we were surprised to find that two corporate representatives were present—without any prior notice to us. When we asked about this, we were told that sometimes families get “nervous” when they know corporate will attend, so they aren’t always informed. They said the med mgmt fee would be waive but then tried to make us pay half.

Review for The Windsor of Bradenton

The head of nursing is extremely difficult to work with. She made up her mind early that my friend was not going to work there. We had to bring him there for a full day to see how he would do. I knew he would love it and he did. She was sure he would try to leave. She then made us have him evaluated by a behavioral psychologist and when she said it was the best place for him she allowed him to come but made it clear she was not happy. She accused him of trying to take off but he was sitting in the garden with another resident talking. He had a bad night. She called 911 gave them false information about his condition. Said he was a diabetic, he is not. He got upset when his phone mysteriously disappeared and she said it was not missing but could not provide it. The straw that broke the camels back was the 4-5 times they told the rehab facility that they would be over to evaluate him them never showed up. When we called her she was always in a meeting and never called back. We talked to an attorney. But realized this was a battle we did not want to win. If he returned we would worry about how he was treated. They told the facility that he could not come back. The family was NEVER notified or given a reason. We were just given a deadline to remove us belongings. He was there for just a few weeks and no $$ were retuned. Felt like a scam. Get them in collect all the deposits and find a way to get rid of them. The majority of residents do NOTHING all day but sit in the lobby or other rooms. They want $$ but do not want to actually care for them. There is another resident from my park that came there after my friend was basically kicked out. He is miserable but has no family to advocate for him. Dealing with them and the aftermath of finding him another place after they falsely described his abilities was exhausting. I would not want to take them on ever. If anyone asks me what experience I had I would tell them I would be homeless before I would stay there.
