Koelsch Senior Communities

We didn't like this community, it just wasn't the right one for my mother in law. It was much more expensive for our budget. A good thing about this community is that they offer great activities. Also the staff was kind and friendly. They were informative and answered my questions. I'm pretty sure this is a nice community, just not the one for us.

Mom is having a hard time getting adjusted at Creekside Inn Alzheimer's Community. I've talked to my mom many times and my brother is close by. The place is clean. They are relatively efficient about taking care of her needs. There are a couple of things that are making me look elsewhere. They didn't emphasize enough how much we need to label things. The first night she was there she had all of her things that I packed to make her comfortable and be able to take care of herself taken. I've been her primary care giver for years and know what she needs. Just about everything I packed for her that she needs was taken. Things like toothpicks, band aids, toothpaste, glasses, toothbrush, etc. I am having to send her care packages to the caregivers because I had flowers sent and they ended up in the wrong room. It was a very difficult transition for her and it's been 6 weeks and she still hasn't gotten adjusted. I just don't think she gets the customized care that they advertise. Also her room is far away from the front desk which is the only place she has a phone. She is cared for but minimally. She's just not happy. They don't call and give me updates ever.

The only problem that I see is that you have to wait too long and spend too much time getting the meals. The food itself is fine, they just need to clean up the service. The accommodations for the room are fine and the maid service is fine and they have plenty of amenities. It is an excellent place.

I have had a few issues and concerns here. They went more than a week without giving a medication, because it didn't get refilled. There was a wound that didn't get changed, due to a communication issue. The roommate she shares a room with has dementia, and has a habit of taking things. I have emailed the director, and he never responded back to me. There seems to be a lot of turnover, right now. The workers are very nice, and it's a nice, clean facility. I chose it because they have a nurse there at night, and I liked that they had the motion sensors in the room.

The facility is clean, but we are paying for a higher level of care, and we come into messes all the time. They check every two hours. I feel like they are just average, there is room for improvement, but I don't think they are bad. The staff is very friendly, and they do what they can with what they have. The management needs to keep a couple of extra nurses on staff, especially for those paying for the extra care. The activities are there but they don't reach out to the residents to encourage them enough. The food has been good. I just think there is room to improve.

They have trouble gettingough CNA's. I'm sure t..his is a nationwide problem but the CNA's always overwhelmed due to pt. Load. They are all pleasant and try really hard.

Beautiful place with good, caring philosophy. Unfortunately, going through some growing pains. Due to rapid increase in residents, there is now a staffing shortage which is getting worse, with the loss of good employees, including the chef. This is a shame as this is a very family friendly/family oriented community. Hopefully, this will be rectified, which would bring my review back to 5 stars, as I previously gave it!

They were nice, but the rooms weren't quite as spacious as the community we ended up choosing. There was a little bit of smell about the property and the rooms. It may just have been the room that we went into. We wanted a double because both of my parents were moving in, but to make a double they just knocked the wall down between two rooms. You ended up with two kitchenettes and bathrooms. They also didn't have access to the next phase of care unit, which my mom would eventually need.

Like the atmosphere but to expensive and not enough care givers for all the people they had there.

Very nice, but still a ways away.

KOELSCH Family = Assisted Living Too large - long halls - I don't think the "less active" side is the side for Mom - need to look at other side.

This facility is beautiful, furnished nicely and clean. However it is also pricey. The majority of the staff are caring and competent. We came to have true friendships with many. There is High turnover!! Always someone quitting and training new care aids. Food is ok. The residents there are safe and well cared for. I never saw signs of abuse or neglect which is the most important factor in choosing a facility for your loved one! The nurses on staff have worked there many years which is a big plus. There is always some activity going on if the resident wants to participate. Was not impressed with administration the years we had a loved one there. They are never on the floor interacting with residents. Always seem to be in a meeting or out for long lunches. Some of the very good staff should get a medal!

I did not like this community at all. The rooms all surrounded the nurse's stations. The room that my loved one would have been in was small and semi-private. The main thing I did not like about this place was for one they would need to evaluate my mother in law before they could give me a set price. Also, they gave me a long list off all of the stuff they charged extra for such as 25 cents for a band-aid.

The biggest complaint my mom has is the food, When we chose this facility the said they had a head Chef, well my mom says "they don't even have a cook" what comes out of the kitchen isn't anything like what it says is on the menu. Dining room staff is not friendly or seems to care.

Maple Glen is very pretty. Most of the people are nice. But they did not manage my husband's care very well & eventually kicked him out. He started out well, but then had some problem behaviors & was hospitalized. The Maple Glen folks tried to wean him off of meds the hospital prescribed & then his problem behaviors came back. They kept telling me that they were "professionals" and could handle our issues. But they did not handle things well. Eventually they hospitalized my husband again & didn't want him back after that second hospitalization. Later I found out that my husband had not been sleeping much at night for the whole three-plus months that he lived there. They never mentioned this to me or suggested we have medical folks address his sleep issues. All in all I was not happy with the way they "took care" of my husband.

My mother spent the laat 3 years of her life at Creekside. With very few exceptions, the staff at Creekside had a real heart for the residents and they deserve 5 stars. In fact, some went above and beyond. With that said, an organization is only as efficacious as its leadership. In my opinion, at Creekside the leadership resembles more the management of a self-storage facility where they take no responsibility for an old TV that you stored with them rather than a memory care facility where you entrust the care and safety of your loved one suffering from Dementia. During my mother’s time at Creekside, she fell, her wheelchair and motion alarm disappeared and her wedding ring vanished. In each instance, Creekside’s default response was, it happens; we’re not responsible. Two days before my mother’s passing, while discussing another incident, the care staff mentioned that she had stopped eating the previous week yet they apparently felt no need to inform me until several days had elapsed
