Be Very Cautious/No Care During Meals

I'm a resident here. There is NO assistance during breakfast or lunch. According to the executive director, caregivers are not allowed to help residents during that time. This has been a major point of contention as I was led to believe I could get help 24/7. When I visited, before I moved in, I was offered a room for a certain price. I specifically asked for no carpet because I'm in a wheelchair. The day I moved, I was put in the smallest room they have, with carpet and a mirror that was too high for me to see into. I was told that this room was temporary and they would move me as soon as a larger room became available. It's been almost 5 months and I'm still in the small room. WORD to the WISE: Get everything in writing and don't sign to say you received any paperwork before you actually have it in your hands. I would highly suggest you get a camera too. Raintree Terrace tried to increase my rate by $1,000 without a notice. My room isn't cleaned weekly. Sheets aren't changed, and a few of the caregivers are very disrespectful, staying on their cell phones, refusing care, and cussing. I'm often treated like a misbehaving teenager. So why so many stars? 2nd and 3rd shift have been great, for the most part, after the caregivers who didn't want to help me get in the shower moved to 1st shift.

A total let down

Suppose to have "2 top knotch chefs"...NOT! Suppose to be a Retirement Community! THE SALES PERSON LIES QUITE EFFECTIVELY!!! Turns out the food is quite awful and the cook...aka chef was fired amidst several heated resident complaint meetings. They are training another chef now. As far as being a retirement community...well if you can call privately hired home aids pushing 8o+ & 90 somethings to & from the dinning room in their wheelchairs a retirement living facility then ok. But if it looks like, and feels like a cheaper nursing facility then ok. You decide. A lot of people here suffer from dementia in various degree, even some go so far as getting lost outside or hitting or kicking others in fits of anger. People have been coming here and leaving . Many have left yhis month and others in the plans of moving as soon as possible. The carpets are filthy in lobby and dinning room and halls. Decor is really run down.

Buyer Beware

Buyer beware! They will say anything to get you in. They left us under the impression mom could stay there for the rest of her life. My mom moved here in January and in a few short months, the top two people were gone without notice. By August, they kicked her out. Be sure your loved one can take care of themselves. They really should take "personal care" out of their name. Once it's too much like work, they oust you.

Place runs great, except for their memory care side I believe is ran by ashley pruitt, she seemed very unorganized, and just not qualified to do the job the company thinks she should be doing. I would look into that person if I were you. Other then that place is lovely and run somewhat smooth.

Not bad

They offer different meal choices and the food is ok. They do offer some daily social activities. The community is clean and the grounds are excellent. The staff are nice and most of the time they are quick to respond. They do try to work with the families. There are residents with motorized scooters and unfortunately, the building was not designed for these. I would recommend asking a lot of questions and doing your research before choosing a community.

Lovely for the right person.

Cedar Woods is similar to a college dorm experience. Residents have their own apartment and rent includes meals, linen and cleaning service, and basic cable tv. Each bedroom and bathroom has a pull cord but only the house manager (one person usually) covers everything that happens. Basically they call 911 for you. There are two health service businesses with offices in the building. Our family member is totally independent and has not used any of their services. Each apartment has a kitchen so one could continue to provide their own food. The meal plan cuisine is low quality and not great on nutrition. For people who are aware of what they are eating, the meals are barely adequate. Small pets are allowed. The building is quite beautiful and almost always very clean. Cedar Woods does not require a lease or much up front fee. The monthly rent is rather pricey for the level of service, yet the facility is probably best suited to people with little or no need for services. The community appears quite accepting and warm. Promises were made to induce us to sign up, but most were not kept. There is supposed to be a van available for group and individual needs, but it is never available for individual needs and was recently in an accident. It was taken out of service for awhile. One day a week a hair dresser serves the residents. Staff are in theory assessing and keeping tabs on the residents by working as servers in the dining room for every meal. Some staff are short with the slower residents. The current managing family has an elementary school age child who can be rambunctious. Bottom pretty, clean, friendly apartment building with meal plan great for people who can afford the rent and don't need health care or home aide services and who have their own transportation and are capable of locating their own doctor, dentist, etc. . Lots of stores etc. nearby.

Nursing staff frequently not available and never returned calls. A/C never worked properly in room. Maintenance unable to fix. We had to buy fans to cool the room. So much turnover and always understaffed. While resident was in hospital, items such as countertop ice maker and smart speaker were stolen. Also medication pilfered. They did reimburse for price of stolen items. Trouble keeping good kitchen staff. Daily afternoon ice cream cart frequently not supplied

Would not recommend

The only thing I liked were the activities they did with them and the outings they took them on. They kept them busy and engaged. The facility itself was dirty, chaotic, disorganized. There were cockroaches in my mom's room, she caught scabies while there and they covered it up, said she didn't have it and we visited her with no precautions. They didn't treat it until she was infected . Communication was nonexistent and horrible. I would never recommend anyone send a loved one there. My mother also wore the same clothing sometimes for a week straight

Overall the place is wonderful. The activities are great, food has been top notch, very clean, and a very friendly staff. My concern, and after speaking to other families they feel the same, is we have gone several times to find employees smoking out front. A lot of updating is going on and the activities suffer because of it.

The general staff personal are super friendly and helpful, the office staff are more interested in keeping the place operating than interacting with the residents. the food is tolerable, but extremely salty and overcooked. The residents are early to bed and early to rise ( quite geriatric).

End of life care

My Uncle was in RFL at the end of his life. He required assistance in most facets of his daily life. RFL does not seem well equipped for someone needing this level of attention and care. It seems the staff was perfectly comfortable to allow him to lay in bad all day. There was an instance where he was placed in bed without any sheets, even though he had many sets of sheets available. I was told at the time that this had happened to "several" residents that day and they "were using this as a training opportunity". [name removed], Executive Director, is very difficult to contact. It wasn't a case where I was contacting her on a daily, or even weekly basis, she simply did not contact me. I found it best to contact [name removed] (sales) for a response of to get in contact with [name removed]. My Uncle called in distress and I waited on hold for over 30 mins, nobody ever answered the phone. Perhaps this facility is acceptable for minimal assistance. I would discourage it for anything more than that.

Based on the duration that my loved one stayed - The concept of the facility is great; but the operation of the facility is poor and unorganized / this effected the adequate care needed/ CNAs poor care or no care at all. I would never recommend this facility to anyone. It needs to be inspected.

Rating score related to new management

Auburn Hill was good before the new management company came in. The only complaint my Mom had in the past was about the food. Other than that it was great. And the location adn view are unmatched in the area. But now that the new management company is there things have really gone down hill. The food is worse, they are short staffed, and only appear to care about getting rent from the residents and now making sure they are cared for. The good staff are all thinking of leaving which is very troubling. They are allowing people to move in that need high levels of care and then are not providing it which is dangerous. It is stressful for my mom to relocate but if things don't start to turn around for the better we will need to move her for her emotional and physical well being.

In Need of Big Improvements

My husband and I have been residents at Cedar Woods for eight years through two owners: Holiday and Holiday by Atria. Currently, under Holiday by Atria, (2 1/2 yrs.) our personal satisfaction has dwindled in many areas. We have had personnel changes at more than 60%, we have gone from fresh, executive chef prepared meals, to no-chef prepared meals. Instead we are offered processed, frozen, bulk prepared items for lunch and dinner. Breakfast includes eggs of choice, frozen waffles and pancakes, diced fruit, toast/muffin, cold/hot cereal, along with bacon, sausage, ham slice. Few/no, healthy choices are offered. We pay for 3 meals a day. Many bring their own food to meals just to enjoy the company of others. Right now, I would rate Cedar Woods, Holiday by Atria, very low. The residents are great, the location is convenient, our resident transportation is very good. We need serious, caring, as-advertised attention to these issues and restore Cedar Woods to its former self.

Don't recommend

They do not do rounds at night, even though I asked them and they said yes they would check on her often. My Mom fell on the floor in the night, the house keeper found her around 9am and the blood around her head had already started to dry up. Her shirt was stuck to the floor. When I asked about her glasses they said they threw them away, they were all bent up. ER sent her back there and again they told me they would keep a extra eye on her. 2 days later she fell again and this time ended up with a brain bleed. She had only been there 2 weeks. After the brain bleed she can not walk so she is in a wheelchair. I could go on and on but I won't. I'm sorry I would not recommend that place to anyone.
