I scheduled my tour on a Wednesday morning -- that's field trip day so between that and doctors appointments, I only saw one resident while I was there. The "alcove" apartment has a very efficient use of space. There are two stories, rather than three, and two elevators, so no rush hour waits at meal time. Although there are no balconies, there are raised beds and ample opportunities to garden. The dahlias and tomatoes grown by the residents were huge! Food is served here, rather than buffet and there are three meals a day, with fruit and drinks available. The main meals are nutritionally sound and residents have ample choices. With the exception of my tour guide, who could not have been nicer, the staff were pleasant enough but did not really engage. There are activities, and residents are driven to Washington Square or across the street to a community pool. Both Edgewood Downs and Rock Creek are owned by the same company and are located on busy streets, making them easy to find but residents will have to walk a few blocks to a residential area to really have a nice walk -- there are walking groups though, so security isn't an issue. Edgewood is next to a school but the backside where buses park is closest to the apartments so noise is not a problem. However, morning and afternoon pickups with traffic and honking might be a turn-off for some. Where this place shines is the age-in-place the a la carte menu of options, that are discounted because the third-party provider is on site, allowing residents to stay much longer than they might otherwise. Like the other places I toured, there are games and activities that could fill a person's days from morning til night, and a well-thought-through library. Both staff and residents stay a little longer here, which strengthen the support structure.

Seemed like a very nice place but just did not the the right mix of activities for my mother-in-law.

My daughter and I met with [name removed], a resident volunteer was covering for the gal who normally does the tours, as she was on vacation. We got a comprehensive tour & general price guidelines but I left wanting to know specific availability & pricing, which he didn’t or couldn’t give me. However, my brother also visited and had a tour; he was able to get specific pricing and availability.

Lovely property and nice grounds. No stovetop in kitchenette but studio and 1 room apartments were very nice and had an outdoor porch space. Second/Third floor apartments are most reasonable in cost. Seemed to have a nice balance of activities planned. Dining room was pleasant. Hair salon on site. [Name removed] was very helpful during our tour.

We thought the facility was wonderful however it will not be on our list as we require aging in place care.

Absolutely caring community - both staff and residents! Very homey feel. Fairly quiet at 11:00am but the residents I met were very pleasant. Very informative tour and great to also speak with the person working with the separate home care staff, located within the building. If it were closer to where I live I would highly consider this for my mom. The only reason I don't give a 5 star is due to it's urban location - no grounds to walk around, just an inner courtyard and 2nd story balcony.

The dining room is gorgeous! Staff I met were friendly, seniors seemed to be moving about and enjoying company. Very clean and tidy residence.

Really nice place. 3 month lease you begin, then month to month rental. Residents we met were so nice and happy with their environment. They look out for each other. A lot of different community rooms/spaces to spend time in. Nice courtyard. Transportation provided to appointments and shopping. Mom is going to give it A try for 3 months to start.

There was nothing really wrong with this community. The setting and outside space was great. The staff was friendly and were very accommodating. The size of the apartments were larger than other places and the whole facility was very bright with natural light. I just felt the community was older and a little less active as well there was no assistance at night if needed.

This is a 15 yr, old building, and is a sister (or brother?) property to Crystal View Lodge, same retirement group. They have the same Nursing care which is out-sourced but on site. Residences are to purchase their own health care packages . Have a very independent fun, active group, strongly promotes independence. Very open to new activities. Red Seal chef and food looks awesome! Strong sense of community and like to do community related activities (creating sleeping mats for doctors without borders to leave at whatever country they visit). Just painted the outside of the building. Looks fresh and inviting to visitors. They have created an Ambassadors club who help new or old residents get use to the place and help them with questions or issues. What a wonderful idea! Doctor on site and has a nearby clinic. Has a beautiful gazebo and patio in the back, with a 1/4 mile walkway around the residence. Close to shopping, no pool on site but has access to Walter Baker centre. Pet friendly. NEGATIVE: While senior's love to wander when on an outing, and it does take time to round everyone up to get back on the bus, they prefer to keep their residences together and contained which makes it easier to keep track of them. Therefore some outings are not planned (Ie.tulip festival)

This place is very different than most senior residences. Building 20 years old and is a lodge. Contains separate buildings for 2 bedrooms and others. Nursing care is out-sourced on-site. Residences are to purchase their own health care packages . Have a very independent fun, active group, strongly promotes independance. Very open to new activities. Red Seal chef and food looks awesome! NEGATIVE: property does not have much walking area. Park is 2 blocks away. Can only handle independent and assisted living residences. Since this Lodge is older many of the rooms have older furnishings. (cabinets, refrigerators, facets) slowly they are modifying their rooms but are not opposed to the resident to upgrade themselves.

This was also a lovely place that we took my Mom on a tour of. She also liked this place, but we wanted a bit more care for her than what was provided for her here. Lovely staff though!!!

Too expensive for me.

Friendly staff, people all seemed to know each other. Residents we met seemed happy and upbeat. Good schedule of events. Other pluses were response device included, rate lock available, nice courtyard, a la cart help services, good cost and good sized space with kitchen $2800/1bedroom. Minuses were: little dark and dingy, fairly small @114 residents, worried about mom being challenged and connecting with the older population.

My mom loved Victoria Park, the tour guide was very good at his job.

Staff were friendly and gave excellent incite. A very welcoming atmosphere and overall lovely facility.

I viewed this location, it was very nice, my mother being from the country, I felt it had great amenities, but it did not not enough green space to make the transition smoothly for my situation.

Big, bright facility with friendly staff and residents. Rooms are reasonable size for the price. Lots of activities and common areas. Especially drawn to having patio or easy outdoor access for door.
