The food is horrible, my mother won't go down to eat. She actually buys her own food. The rent is going up and it's not worth that much, so we're thinking of moving her somewhere else.

As a former resident of The Carriage House, I feel compelled to express my personal experiences and opinions regarding the facility. Overall, The Carriage House isn't a terrible place to live... but it is certainly not without it's problems. The staff is quite friendly, with the exception of the management team, who seem less than genuine. It appears that they are more interested in pleasing prospective residents than they are in keeping current ones. They attempt to pacify most issues presented to them with such phrases as "We'll look into it", yet seldom follow up on anything. They also have a tendency to speak condescendingly to residents, guests, and staff alike, which I found insulting. There have been numerous occasions where I was seated in the lobby and could overhear inappropriate conversations or obscenities regarding hiring, firing, unfavorable residents and employees, etc. They also seem a bit understaffed, which led to poor or slow work performance (especially in the housekeeping and maintenance departments). The parking lot is too small and doesn't accommodate enough vehicles. There are humidity issues throughout the facility which cause mold, although the staff insists that it's mildew. I hope my review is beneficial and helps others in choosing the right retirement community. I understand that no property is without flaws, but some flaws are easily reparable or simply inexcusable. I dearly miss some of the friends I made during my residency at The Carriage House, but I definitely do not miss residing there.

independent 1795.00 / 2030.00 not assisted living nurses that do come to the site cost would be private with them. Will be opening up a new site that will be assisted living in two weeks that may be a option. Staff very nice

I would tell people not to go there. The food and the whole place. The residents had group their own group. The cleanliness was alright. The room was fair, and I had to provide my own furniture.

New place, looks nice, started off with good food. Now cut back on food and snacks. Food doesn't meet dietary needs of most of residents. Short on staff. Expensive and have to buy groceries even though already paying for meals.

Came to visit family member and when management knew I was visiting ----- got NO help . Rude manager and no help. Would not move me or family member in this place again. STAY AWAy!!!!!!!!!

Colonial Harbor is not what it appears to be. Supposedly independent living, it is more like a nursing home. From activities to maintenance to quality of food their first priority seems to be cutting costs. This is especially evident in the decline of the quality of food. Residents complain but promises of improvement are not kept. The 5 star review on yelp is from the manager, which is supposedly against YELPs rules. The truth is things are not changing for the better. they're worse. For the amount residents pay to live here, you would think they could at least get a decent meal.

If you are considering retirement living for you or a loved one, ASK THIS IMPORTANT QUESTION. "If my loved one dies or becomes acutely ill and must move immediately, will your 30 day notice to vacate be enforced?" In nearly all senior living settings the contract stipulates a 30 day notice to vacate. At Salmon Creek Retirement Living, Boise, this stipulation is applied even in the event of death or acute sudden illness necessitating a move. At move in, my mother was also charged a security deposit of $1045. My mother's SECURITY DEPOSIT of $1045.00 was ARBITRARILY applied to the 30 day notice to vacate. My mother sustained serious pelvic and hip injuries, was in the hospital for nearly a month, and COULD NOT RETURN to Salmon Creek but the 30 day notice to vacate was enforced and her security deposit of $1045 was CONFISCATED AND ARBITRARILY retained by Salmon Creek. There are a lot of pitfalls and unknowns when you care for a senior loved one. ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS UPFRONT AND AVOID UNEXPECTED EXPENSES LATER.

After reading the reviews, we decided to place one of my parents there. The support staff was very nice, driver, wait staff, etc. but the management and activities director do not appear genuine. They are initially friendly but do not really listen to the suggestions the residents make and patronize them. We are disappointed. Residents are friendly but rarely do you see any laughs at this place.

I can't believe people are saying positive things about Cottonwood Estates. [removed] The food is terrible. They advertise a "Chef" on duty 24/7. It's a lie. A 10 year old could fix better meals. My Mother [removed], she was so intimidated by the staff demands that they be on time for meals so they could sit and wait for an hour for their cold, industrial meals. And, then the food was so terrible she wouldn't eat enough of it to keep a bird alive. Cottonwood makes all kinds of promises, but they follow through on nothing. Ask some of the residents about their "pea soup" with three peas in a broth. That's the level of the food that is served. I feel so sorry for the sweet people who are living there. We got Mom out. She has had some of her Cottonwood friends over for meals, and they are obviously VERY hungry.

The apperance of the facility is nice and the apartments are nice. Here are the main issues/complaints about this facility: 1 - Food - is HORRIBLE. At $500 a month it should be so much more. The menu comes down from Corporate-very few vegtables and TONS of carbs - potatoes/rice/pasta. That is because they go further and it is cheaper. So much food is wasted because it is not eaten or sent back. They also run out of their main entrees. 2 - It is supposed to be a Independent Living Facility; however they continue to take individuals that have Alzheimer's, Dementia and other health issues. On numerous occations my relative has had someone at her back door not knowing where they are, who they are, etc. This is on a main road and someone is going to end up hurt or worse. There are so many people who have not business living in an Independent Living facility. A old manager even acknowledged this and said they could get in trouble for accepting some of the people that are there. 3-Activities -They have gone through numerous Activity Managers - Each one holding activities for the grade level of kindergarden. The newest Manager is someone right out of College. What would she know about activities for seniors? 4-As new as they are and the capacity of individuals they have - they are saying they are out of money.

Hessler heights was horrible past infestation, dirty, broken washing machine and dryers part time managers.

There is a problem with red roaches here. They have tried several times to alleviate the problem, but I still have them. Most people here have them. The washer and dryer situation is terrible. One dryer runs constantly, but doesn't dry clothes all the way. The other dryer makes a terrible noise. I have seen new washers and dryers in boxes in the garage. Why haven't they been installed? Our daytime chef is very good. The dinner chef not so much. I have gone home hungry a lot. I'm very disappointed in this facility! Not at all what I expected.

I did a vital tour. I found the apartments had no inside laundry machines, no dishwashers. The fitness room was limited in workout machines. I cannot comment on cleanliness, did not meet any of staff or other comments on facilities.

The place has gone downhill. Lots of turnover. People leaving. It's not going well.

Terrible place! Not many good comments especially the management. Only a few but don't remember names.

Oh, I forgot once you have been blacklisted and cannot enjoy the amenities that you are paying for then you have to deal with gossip that is simply not true. Lots of drama here. Sad that I am paying [removed] a month and am banned from the amenities I am entitled to just like everyone else because I am different just does not seem fair. I wish I could move but it's impossible. I can't drive a car and have no family so I'm basically stuck paying a huge amount of rent for pretty much nothing.

My sister lives at Colonial Harbor. It’s awful and doesn’t give her the benefits she is paying for. 1. Pays for own Wi-Fi since what’s offered is not strong enough to get to her apartment. 2. Food used to be good. Now it’s awful. Baked potatoes and cottage cheese is worth the price that is charged in rent. 3. No transportation. Been in repair shop most of this year. 4. Can’t find a activities director that will stay. No weekly activity sheet. Has a nice tv room but no one uses it. 5. Very small budget for activities. 6. Apartment was not properly refurbished before move in. Even the toilet paper holder is not level. I could go on but I’ll run out of space

If I could rate this community with 0 stars I would. The Manager Shannon is very rude and disrespectful to residents and her staff. I heard her telling a staff "I should write you up". The residents are talked to like children in a disrespected way by staff. The residents do not get their rooms cleaned weekly which is in their monthly package short staff. Mold in sink and shower. Washer was out for months and heard her say "it's not in my budget cause it's not going to affect my BONUS. My loved one paid over $[removed] a month to live here. Food is horrible, cats running around on furniture in the lobby area. My loved one lived on the 3rd floor and it reaps with weed (illegal drug) every night. 1st floor reaps with cigarettes smoke. This is not an independent living. Wheelchairs, dementia patients, mental health patients. There are not enough activities for the different level of mental for the residents. I moved my mom out. Don't walk, RUN from this place!
