It depends on the level of care your parents needs

We did not have a good experience at HarborChase of Tamarac and I ended up moving my mom out. If your loved one is independent it would be fine, but if they need any type of care like showering, bathing, eating, etc. it is not good and I would not recommend.

All Smoke and Mirrors- STAY AWAY

I DO NOT recommend HarborChase if you care about your loved one. Majority of the staff are uncaring and times NASTY. I will start with Laura, the Manager of the facility. Before my mom moved in, promises were made on how I will be about to communicate with her. After the week she moved in, the rules were changed and I needed advocate for her to maintain communication. Not long after my mother moved into Harbor Chase her Teeth were lost. [name removed] told me "apparently they were thrown out". [amount removed] of dental work thrown out.. I will commend [name removed] and [name removed] . 2 of the staff who actually responded to my moms care. The staff would arrange FaceTime calls with me and put my mom in front of a TV where she could not i hear or talk to her. ONLY if [name removed] was there was the request acknowledged. One night my mother fell out of bed and needed to go to the hospital for a staple in her head. The next day staff was unaware. [name removed] is very Nasty If you care about your loved ones, stay away

Stay Away From Here

I would tell others not to place your loved ones here. The nurses aides were cruel, shamming. The administrative team wouldn't take care of my loved one. The care was absolutely horrible. There was no communication and there is high turnover with all staff. The staff at the front desk were always nice though.

So disappointed with this community

This community has no clue how to take care of the elderly. We had a virtual tour and during the tour I saw elderly people without masks, with staff members without masks. No wonder this community had some many people ill and go out to the hospitals. $8,000 for an apartment and level of care, plus a medications fee, plus one month rent upfront community fee sounds ridiculous. Mom is now at a different assisted living in Hockessin, more reasonable and better care.

Beautiful community, caution peel back the layers

Beautiful community when walking in the front door, newer building (2 years old), but my parent has been their over a year. In that year, upper management has changed over three times, the nursing care has gone down hill quickly. Every time a new manager comes in promising to us (the families) that it will improve. Are they giving us a discount on the higher than average cost for our parents care (it’s subpar), Nope. Continue to charge us $7700 a month (this doesn’t include 3 meals a day). 24 hour nursing care, never happens as advertised, maybe 12-16 hours, never 3 days in a row (always excuses “the hospitals are taken all of the LPN’s). We don’t want excuses, we want what we are paying for at HarborChase of Wilmington. Of course with Covid19, we can’t get into the building to see our parent. When we drop stuff off at the doors for our parent, we see a lot of outside folks going into the building without even a temperature check or wearing masks. Save your money and your frustration with this senior living community. There are plenty of other options in the area.

Regrets

My Mom moved in during the pandemic. I rented an apartment at approximately $4800 a month. Unfortunately, they wouldn't allow me to come back to unpack more than half of her boxes and clothes. There is little done around a plan to support those residents moving in during the pandemic and a lack of communications. The leader of this location does not respond to emails or calls. My Mom reported feeling sick and Covid symptoms. I called the community and got voicemail. I wrote a note to their leader asking to have them check on my Mom...no response. Concerned about her safety and wellbeing, we moved her out. During her move day. I observed staff, vendors and aides without masks. As I was packing her kitchen items with the mover, we discovered black mold in the sink. No wonder she wasn't feeling well! This company's corporate office promised to investigate and refund her entrance fee, but never followed up. I have emails and documentation to support these issues. The staff are lovely and try their best but we were repeatedly told they were understaffed.

Lacking...Communication, Compassion & Concern!

I want to help anyone that has to go through this difficult milestone of selecting an Assisted Living place for a parent. This was truly one of the hardest decisions of my life knowing how, when, where and what to look for during the selection. If I had written this review for Harbor Chase Southlake 1 ½ years ago it would have been a 5 star review; but today’s Harbor Chase is NOT the Harbor Chase we selected for my Mother 2 ½ years ago! Do you know when you hold somewhere is such a high regard (deservedly so), but then they disappoint you so much that it hurts…that is the case with Harbor Chase Southlake! In the beginning when the property was less than six months old, we moved my Mother into Harbor Chase Southlake… it was immaculate, professionally managed and the employees, food and amenities were of the highest caliber which was an answer to our prayers! The top management at that time (Director and the Director of Resident Care) were very professional, involved, highly visible, knew all of the residents and families by name and cared about the welfare of their residents. I can honestly say that the personnel at Harbor Chase saved my Mom’s life more than once. I regularly shared my experiences and highly recommended Harbor Chase to friends, other families when touring the property and my mother’s doctors who were so impressed with her care. Then the top management changed (Director, the Director of Resident Care and the Business Manager) and then things began to take a downward spiral in almost every aspect that once had made Harbor Chase a remarkable treasure. Management now exclusively resides in their offices, are very unapproachable and uninvolved. Other contributors to the downward spiral consist of: the very high employee turn-over rate, the caliber of the new hires and the slow or non-existent communication to residents and families. These sad changes were happening before the quarantine, but I just worked around the situation by communicating more closely with the “worker-bee angels” or handling things myself. Again, I want to reiterate that the front-line personnel consisting of the healthcare workers, culinary and other staff members are fantastic! I cannot extend my appreciation and gratitude enough to these individuals because they loved and cared for my Mom when I could only do it from afar during this difficult time. I wish I could name every employee by name that cared so lovingly for my Mother, but I know I would forget some names that deserve to be recognized. Writing this review is absolutely NOT the way I wanted to be heard or resolve my complaints; I tried to quietly and professionally handle this situation by sending letters & an email to HRA corporate, but I got no response so I decided that the problem was not just a local management concern, but a HRA corporate culture issue. I had been forewarned by another resident’s family member, that corporate was not concerned with any complaints because the bottom-line was strong at this property. I had sincerely hoped that she was wrong and that this was frustration and misinformation speaking… because as we all know, the way you deal with people’s lives and well-being will show-up on your bottom-line! There were several specific situations that occurred right before and after my Mom passed away that prompted my original letter to HRA corporate. I am so disappointed in HRA corporate’s lack of communication, compassion and concern; I guess as long as their bottom-line is strong, they too can reside in their ivory towers, be uninvolved and hope the next resident will accept mediocrity. We entrusted our most cherished possession, our Mother, to Harbor Chase’s care and I thought Harbor Chase’s mission was to value people’s needs over their own convenience and desperate profitability! My dealings are complete with Harbor Chase Southlake, but hopefully my observations can be of use to others.

Not fit for a dog!

0 stars ! Disgusting ! My loved one was incontinent, they left him often soiled along with leaving his unsanitary garbage in the room. His dirty clothes were often left in his laundry permeating disgusting odor in her room. They left sharp rectangle tables that residents were often tripping and seriously injuring themselves and would not remove them. They often leave people in their room for hours including finding my loved one left for over 4 hours on several occasions. They often miss meals without checking on them. The nursing staff leaves the residents floor vacant for hours while eating and then leaves the floor to go upstairs and then leaves again to dispense medication on the other side of the building leaving residents unattended during emergencies. Nurses even shut off the lights and often their is no radio or any way to contact a nurse witnessed during an emergency. My loved one had many bruises on her arms from the rough handling of the CNA's that treat the residents inappropriately. Its funny how their is not one bruise since he left. Their only form of entertainment is to sit everyone in front of a Computer -TV, no field trips and no activities. This place is not fit for a dog.

A sad place!!!

The staff in the memory care unit are just there for a paycheck. They do not like helping the residents of this unit and laugh and make fun of them every weekend. They all just sit around and talk with each other or play on their phones. I have seen more then once where they don’t get All the residents up for meals or fix the residents small plates so they can all eat! VERY UNHAPPY

Did not like Harbor Chase. Have sinced moved my husband to a better memory care facility. Harbor Chase Memory Care is more interested in profit than proper care for the patients. It was uncomfortably cold all the time, not much in the way of activities and they were to repetitive, my husband got no help with his meals so I would have to be there all the time to feed him! Meds were being distributed by aids who were not certified to do that and there were always mistakes! I supplied all of my husband’s medications because we have a good prescription plan. But I have been receiving bills from the pharmacy that Harbor Chase uses to order meds. Twice I have brought these bills to the head nurse at Harbor Chase and nothing has been done. So up til now, I have received 5 bills and I do not intend to pay them! And it has been 4 months since I removed my husband from there. I took him out after 6 weeks of being totally disgusted! The halls where the patient’s rooms are always smelled like urine! Laundry was often neglected so I was taking my husband’s laundry home and doing it myself. I strongly recommend that if you are looking for a good care facility, THIS IS NOT IT!

After a 7 day stay and fee of $ 8270,00 we did not receive any money back!!!!

After my husband was a resident for 7 days, I received zero return on my payment of $8270.00. He was so unhappy there that I moved him to Aravilla and he and our family are so happy we did.

A bit of advice - Family/Friend

Caregivers think twice about this place!!

I don not recommend this facility to anyone! Sadly this facility is only after one thing, your loved one's money! They will tell you what ever is necessary to get you to move in and then change it up once you are there or sadly have your loved one pass. If you move in partial month they want you to pay a full month first, then they will adjust your second month, really?Who does that? Never pay for what you don't use! What if your loved one passes in that fist month....(like mine-after 1 week) they will not give you any prorated amount back but nickel and dime you till the sun doesn't shine so they can keep you money. One strong word of advice...Do not sign contract as "responsible party" sign as a POA for your loved one. They will come after you as "responsible party" to no end threaten legal action on you and cause the family unnecessary duress during your grieving time! Their staff does not follow residents wishes and does not listen to direction from Hospice or family The motto is "not on my watch". The staff can not seem to send the proper paperwork with a resident to the hospital when they send them by ambulance. We were summoned by a care giver to bring paper work to facility so that they could fax to hospital at 11 pm. This paper work was given at time of contract signing, and was copied but mysteriously missing from her file. This represents poor organization and disrespect to the loved one. To add to our horrible experience, when my loved one passed, the care staff on duty was telling the funeral home driver to "hurry up" and remove her as there were residents up! Never did she offer him to use another more discrete door to exit. OH MY GOD I was so upset by her actions and the disrespect she showed us by her words I shudder to think of this happening to anyone else!

Do not consider moving a family member into this community...especially during the pandemic. I moved my Mom into the community in May and into a larger apartment in June. They allow 1 person from the family to move in during 1 day. The movers arrived in the afternoon and this left me 3 hours to unpack her belongings. Regrettably, more than half of her personal belongings were left unpacked. Despite repeated requests on coming in to unpack, 3 months later, no response. For instance, I sent a note (called...but went to VM) when my Mom woke up with symptoms that could have been attributed to Covid. I received no response from the Executive Director. I reached out to the facility NP that serves her community and she stopped by to check on my Mom. The community genuinely seems concerned about the spread of the pandemic which I appreciate. However, when I moved her out, I observed 1 staff member, 3 private duty aides/home health aides and 2 contractors without masks during a very limited time in the community. Additionally, I found black mold in my Mom's sink when I was with movers packing up her belongings. She complained of allergies and breathing issues when she lived there...now I know why.I would never recommend this community to anyone. The Executive Director fails to respond to communications. There are many more instances of individuals not responding, communicating except for when it comes to making a sale. I frequently heard about the many staffing shortages as an excuse for follow-up. BTW...there are many incredibly nice employees there who are absolutely lovely and do their best to help. Leadership at the community also fails to respond to issues and concerns in a timely manner OR at all. After she moved out, I reached out to their corporate leadership who promised to investigate my concerns and get back to me. I was also promised they would refund her move in fee...despite providing a lot of details, their corporate office did not follow-up as promised, NOR did they refund her deposit. There are many lovely employees that work at the community. Nonetheless, it is not acceptable that their community and corporate leaders do not respond, employees and contractors do not wear masks, and that black mold exists in any apartment.
