A Place for Mom has scored Hallkeen Management with 7.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 32 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Hallkeen Management has 210 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
We chose River Mills because of their focus on memory care as well as the structure of the building, it is in the shape of a horseshoe. The room sizes at the facility have been adequate for what he needs. The facility is great and the things that they have in place seem to be great as well. I do think that they could use improvement on their communication and follow up to families. I would tell others to make sure to ask a lot of detailed questions before moving your loved one in here, especially about non-prescription medications as well as medications. We are still figuring things out as time goes on and it is a learning experience for everyone.

At first I was really impressed. I think the activities director is right on point. I'm worried about the memory care unit, since they have limited staff. I've asked for a care plan, and they've not been able to provide one to me. It is a nice and clean community. It's not everything I had hoped it would be. They changed nurses and doctor coded the medicine to be filled each month. The staff never told me that the medication needed to be filled each month. We didn't know of this change until the last few weeks. The community let us took responsibility, but they said ultimately it was the pharmacy's fault. This has been a huge issue for us. I would like to see more one-on-one memory care.

The care services vary day to day as well as the friendliness of the staff members. The activities also vary throughout the week especially now with COVID. Basically the thing we have been concerned with is that it seems like this community is understaffed at times even before COVID. We felt the ratio for staff members to each resident was way to low, and it was worse on the weekends. Some of the staff members were really good and communicated really good, but then some staff members who worked there just seemed to be rushing through things and didn't communicate that well. There were times we saw the staff members speak to each-other and the residents with their mask pulled down which concerned us. To be fair during the worst of COVID, from our understanding they had roughly speaking around ten confirmed cases, but only one loss. We would also received weekly reports during this time, which were very consistent and we appreciated the communication. Our loved one was in memory care, and there isn't a specific individual that just oversees the memory care side, they one an individual that oversees the entire community which we didn't really like. We had an incident over a weekend with a private aid who was taking care of another resident. We noticed she was handling that resident a little rough, so we spoke with the staff and told them our concerns. The private aid found out and came to our loved ones room and belittled us for minutes without an apology. We even reached out to the activities director and executive director about this issue and it was never addressed.

My father, brother and I were greeted warmly by [name removed]. The staff was friendly and outgoing. We had a sausage role with potatoes and summer squash, with chocolate ice cream for dessert. The facility is dated with small rooms with small closets. The low level assisted living section has evolved from a residence with several add one over the years with a maze of hallways. The low level, mid level and high level areas are separate buildings .They did have a $ 500.00/month discount for the month of May.

I had a nice experience on my tour of this community. Everyone was very kind to my family, and I. There were many factors that played into where to move my aunt to. This is a nice community, but it wasn't the one for us. Good experience overall.

We very much liked this facility, both memory care and assisted living. The divided studio is a great option. We have decided, however to pursue another facility. There is honestly no one specific thing I can tell you caused us to lean in this direction. All of the staff was helpful and provided all of the information we asked for.

So far our experience with Brookdale Mountain Laurel has been somewhat of a mixed one. The facility itself is very nice, and is always well kept and clean. The aide staff are also all very friendly, and do a good job looking after the residents. However, the management are a bit less friendly, and can be hard to get in touch with. It is also very very expensive, although they can be somewhat flexible about the price and services provided, if you talk with them.

We toured this community when we were looking into care options for our loved one. Based on what I saw I just didn't think that my loved one would have been comfortable here. It just had a very old, institutional feel. It just felt too much like a "nursing home", and I didn't think she would be happy here.

I toured this facility when I was looking into care options for my loved one. It is a brand new facility, and it is very nice looking. It is also very expensive, much more so than the option I ended up choosing. I was also somewhat put off by the sales staff, they were very polite but their "niceness" just felt very sales-y and not genuine.

It seems that Mt Laurel was recently (in the last two years) purchase by Emeritus, and this has not been a good thing. We had moved my father there on recommendation from a friend (and after touring that and other facilities, of course), but the comparison of her experience from a few years ago and today are extreme, and upsetting. While the staff are all very pleasant and cordial, the facility is clearly understaffed, and the staff that they do have is not well trained. The nursing director, who thankfully was recently let go, was absolutely useless. I believe her replacement is trying, but there has been only minimal improvement so far. Some of the nursing aides are very good, but some clearly do not care, and should be replaced. The food service is very spotty, meals are often served cold and takes up to an hour to serve. Overall, had we not been in a somewhat desperate situation (as I'm sure many families find themselves), we would have taken more time to do more research, and likely would have chosen another facility. Sadly, most around here are owned by Emeritus, and so are probably much the same.

40-residents. 4-level remodled school [confining, confusing layout]. average, at best [an occupied lower level unit appeared 'messy, unclean']. none in common areas, but 'new paint smell'evident in vacant/refurbished unit. Activities - n/a ['bible/praer' group in 1-common area]. Staffing appears limited [no one in kitchen in the 1115-1130 slot, 1-housekeeping on 4th, 1-aide in common area doing paperwork on 2nd]. Outdoors - convenient location to 'town park, hall, library, movie, stores.' Rooms - confining layout, outdated cabinets & bath fixtures, limited closet-space, very 'high' ambient noise levels on all floors & very 'loud' piped-in music in dining area [4t-floor units are more open & comfortable]. No 'pt' room/staff on-site. Food -- univiting menu choices. Safety/security -- n/a. Care -- [1]-hour of daily care autmatically included; if 'double-lift' assistance required, then must move out. No discussion of finances. OVERALL - not high on the list.

Staff are nice and very helpful. Food not great flavor wise and health wise. Activities decent. Some poor communication about various matters. Told us recently that PACE rules changed (my mom will qualify in a year) and that we needed [removed]k in a separate bank account with me as PoA. Luckily my mom's have to move. They then said we were out of compliance with opening the account. They never told us in the meeting that it needed to be open now. Things like that have been very stressful.

At first, to get you in there, they are very friendly and kind. And then once you're in, it feels like there is a lot of penny pinching. Their main concern seems to be money, and they are less concerned about resident welfare. There are individual staff members who are great, but overall management seems to care more about money than about their residents. The rooms are quite nice and have big, nice, bright windows. If you don't need a lot of help, the actual apartment is pretty nice.

The facility lacks a lot, if your looking for memory care help for your loved one, look somewhere else. The only thing an aide can say, "I wasn't here this ( morning , afternoon) No one takes responsibilty. Meds are not given out at the specified times. Place is dirty and dingy.

It has not been a good experience for my mother since her move to this community. There is major room for improvement in this community. Just the other night I had to bus the table myself, because they are under staffed. The residents with went out hot water for 2 days. I'am not pleased with this community overall.

Most staff are nice but nursing truly is a deficiency. With the facility now full, they have had to bring on new staff that are not well trained and oftentimes they are short staffed. At this point, residents are more treated as numbers as opposed to people. It's a beautiful setting but the care is truly poor.

The rooms were smaller than we wanted and the kitchen floor was sticky it was like walking on fly paper. There were two floors and they were the same. They claimed someone was coming to clean that day and I wondered why they didn't clean themselves. It really turned me off that the floors were so sticky.
